Chapter Forty six

When we arrive at the house I am in a hurry to get into my bedroom so I can lock y door and be safe from Cyrus. When I put my leg on the stairs he calls my name
“Bella” I hesitate, I am on a fight or flight mode as I turn around to face him. He is still standing in front of the door watching me from a distance. I doubt he can catch me if I decide to run right now but I don’t want him to know I am scared of him.
“You have a great night. I am going to go back home and wait for Cullen, I think he needs me right now” he says watching me.
The relief I feel to know that he is leaving and he won’t be haunting me in the house is hard to hide, thank the heavens
“Okay”
“You be a good little girl for me then” he says and I can’t help rolling my eyes “And Bella, don’t ever roll your eyes at me again” he says and leaves as the door locks behind him. He is going to stay at home and I can’t go to my parent’s house because it’s late? At least he is not here anymore.
The following weeks are spent the same at the house, meaning I spend as much time in my room and avoid Cyrus as much as I can. I made progress in the cooking department and I can prepare breakfast now, so I achieved something at least. It’s another Sunday dinner and I am not as excited as I was on my first dinner, who knows what will happen again this time.
When I get down to wait for Cyrus, I find that he is already standing by the door like last time, only this time he doesn’t dress up for it. He is wearing a blue long sleeved t-shirt that hugs his muscles and brightens his eyes, making him look like my dream man until he speaks
“What are you wearing?” he asks in disdain and I think to myself ‘what the hell is his problem now’
“You said you wanted me to wear a red dress, I am wearing a red dress.”
“You really like stirring things up don’t you?” he asks putting his hands in his trouser pocket and facing me
“I don’t know what you’re talking about; if you want me to change just say it. I really don’t want to have a fight tonight”
“Where did you get that dress?”
“In my closet. Should I change?”
“I am asking you where you got it, where you bought the damn thing”
“Oh, I think Cullen gave it to me on my birthday last year. Do you think it’s out of style because I think it’s still in”
“Just how dumb are you?”
“Excuse me”
“We are going to my family dinner with me your husband and you’re going to wear the dress given to you by another man who will also be at the dinner table”
“He is not another man he is your brother, and I frankly didn’t think about it, you wanted a red dress I had a red dress so I put it on”
“Why don’t you start thinking from now on? I can’t have a stupid woman by my arms. Wear something dark today, preferably black”
“Yes sir” I answer back like the woman he wants me to be and head to my room. I know he likes picking a fight with me so I would defy him and he would have a reason to hurt me. I am doing a good job of avoiding him, so I am going to lay low until I have a plan.
This time when we arrive Cullen and his parents are there to greet us, my parents are not coming over today so it’s just the Cinnati family tonight. Cullen is looking a lot better from the last time I saw him and that makes me happy, I hated seeing him go to waste that way and fight with his family because I know what a great person he is.
Dinner is a quite affair and it ends as it began, then we go to the den and watch a classic movie. My mother in law asks me to the library and takes a sit watching me curiously
“Are you okay Bella?” she asks when I take a seat next to her
“Yes, I am fine” I answer back plastering a smile. Did she notice something between Cyrus and me? I hope not because Cyrus will think I told his mother something and who knows what hell he’ll do.
“Are you and Cullen okay? I have noticed you haven’t said a single word to each other tonight” she says sadly.
The truth is ever since I got into that door Cullen has been avoiding me and pretending he doesn’t notice me. He doesn’t look at me or spare me a glance or conversation; he acts as if I don’t exist. It hurts but I am a big girl and I sucked it up, I knew I had lost my best friend the night that changed everything
“Oh….um…its nothing to worry yourself about, we are okay”
“I don’t mean to prod, it’s just you two have been inseparable ever since you were born and I saw something different between you two and I didn’t like it, it breaks my heart” she says with sadness.
She is not the only one who wishes things between Cullen and I could remain the same but I can’t change what happened. I know it would be different if I had Cullen by my side, he would know what to do and I wouldn’t be all alone, it was a bad time to lose my best friend when I needed him the most.
“it’s just that a lot has happened with the wedding and everything and I think we are just trying to adjust with the changes, but whatever happens Cullen will always be my best friend” I tell her honestly and she smiles, still holding my hand. We are silent together sitting like that until Cyrus walks into the room
“I have been looking for you ladies everywhere in the house; I didn’t know you came in here. I started thinking you had kidnapped my wife” Cullen says to his mom as he sits on the handle next to his mother
“you’re not the first person to be married child, no one is thinking of taking your wife from you”
“If only that were true” Cyrus says giving me a wink and making his mom hit him playfully but I know exactly what he meant.
