Meeting Jaggar

-Joshua - Five years ago -

I woke up, sweaty and shaken. I look across my room, confused. What was that?

*Joshua?*

I shake my head, no.. This isn’t feeling good. Who is that? I must still be sleeping. My head is buzzing, like an headache is coming up. I step out of my bed and getting myself some water downstairs. There it is again, vaguely but I can still hear it.

*Josh?*

Wait, is this my wolf? Is this what he sounds like? I suddenly am completely awake. I try to talk back, but I don’t know how. I wait until the voice is back, but I’m not hearing it anymore. After an hour I decided to go to sleep again.

The next morning I’ve troubles waking up. “Josh, darling! Wake up. It’s your birthday!” I hear my mom’s voice yelling in my ear. I feel Eve jumping on my bed.. “Happy birthday to you! Happy Birth…”

Uggh.. Why does everything sounds so loud? “Guys! I’m awake. Thank you!” I open my eyes and see my mom, dad and Eve all in my room. My dad looks at me and says: “Happy 12th birthday, my son. It’s a special birthday - I hope you’re gonna meet your wolf soon. Are you excited?” I look at him and nod. I decided to not mention last night.

After the birthday wishes they all went downstairs, and I took a shower. Hmm.. Weird, it feels like I hear everything louder. Even the water drops on the floor. I focus on the voices in the background, and I recognize Eve’s. Woow. This is creepy.

Days and weeks gone by, and I felt my body changing. I was moody and sensitive. The sounds were louder, I could see everything better and all the other senses sharpened as well. I have troubles controlling my emotions. Mother is sweet, as always. She told me it was normal, that my wolf is forming and trying to reach the surface.

One day I got sick. It started with a headache, which was growing worse over time. I was not feeling well. That’s strange, because wolves almost never get sick. We have a great self-healing system, so we make ourselfs better even before the virus or bacteria make us sick. Mother was staying at me all day. At one point she tells me: “Joshua, I think your wolf is trying to talk to you. Try to relax, you really should. The headache is probably because your unconscious is trying to block him.”

What the hell? “How can I do that?” I ask her.

She smiles. “Your body knows when you’re ready, my dear.” And she left me alone in my room. I struggled for 36 hours before I was able to relax. And the moment I did, I heard his voice.

*What took you so long, my friend? I almost need to retire, because of you. Damn.*

I smiled. Finally.

*I’m sorry bud. Needed to test you. I only want a wolf that is at least as strong as me.*

*Hmpf. You’re nothing without me. Wanna try to compete me with a run?*

*Nah. I’m good. Well, welcome Wolf. How may I call you?*

*So we’re into the greetings? Aight. I’m Jaggar. Nice talking to you!*

*Jaggar. Like your name. Nice meeting you. Have to say, you got me some real pain in the head, Jag. Is that normal for the first time?*

*Hahaha. Well, it’s not that I’ve tried this before, so… Dunno!*

I smile. This is weird, but at the same point very nice. I already feel better, and my headache is almost gone. I think it was Jaggar, trying to reach my thoughts what caused the pain, like mom said. I think I’m gonna like this wolf. He’s fun.

*You know we share thoughts, right? Thanks.*

Crap. Yeah. That’s new. I forgot. He’s there and won’t leave my body ‘till I’m dead. Kind of.

*But, If I’m not mistaken, I am in charge right now. Sooooo… I can block you if I want.*

*You can, but I’m gonna knock on your thoughts-door until you got a headache even worse than this one. You choose.*

Well. Great. I guess there are some negative side effects of this whole thing as well..

*Can still heeaarr you!*

Right.
