“Gra-Grandfather?” I’m in shock. “Whát is he talking about?” I ask the nice nurse.
He walks over to me and says: “Miss Eve! You were playing with fire over here. How are you able to speak to him right that! Nobody, I really mean NObody, has ever talked to him like that. Well, not since his son died. He was the only one to speak up to him. Didn’t you feel that killing aura of his?”
The nurse looks terrified and shocked. I shrug, “I don’t know. I guess it didn’t affect me that much. I felt his aura the moment he tried to leave the room though, but I wasn’t afraid of him; if that’s what you mean?”
He’s still in shock. “Well, that would explain everything. I almost wet my pants, and you’re sitting in the bed like nothing happened.” He shakes his head and continues:
“I don’t know the whole story, miss, I’m just a nurse. But I do know, Alpha Talon lost his only son around sixteen years ago. They found them in the woods, with a silver bullet in his back. Someone murdered them. Alpha Talon was devastated, but revenge took over. He searched for years, he needed to find out what happened to his son. But every clue he found, led to nothing. Until a few months ago, he got a letter that said Thomas, his son, has a daughter. First everyone thought it was a sick joke, but the letters keep coming. Every sunday, he received a new one with new information. Slowly, it all came together. The one who was sending those letters knew everything about Thomas, his true mate and their daughter. It’s you, Eve. You are his daughter. That makes Alpha Talon your grandfather…”
“No - no! James is my father. Besides, if he’s killed sixteen years ago - I can’t be his daughter. I’m only twelve years old..” I’m relieved now, and kind of proud too. I solved their riddle, they made a mistake. I’m not the one they’re searching for. “So, can you please let me go, now? I’m clearly not the one you’re searching or.” I make moves to leave this bed, the problem is I’m still chained.
The nurse smiles a little. “I’m sorry, miss. I can’t let you go. First: I don’t have the key to your chains and secondly: you áre Thomas’ daughter. Here…” He walks to the desk and search through the drawers. He walks back to Eve and throws her some paperwork. She picks them up and starts reading. “What is this?” she asks him. “A maternity test. The first blood sample is Alpha Talon’s. The second one is yours. They match. Alpha Talon is truly your grandfather, Eve. I’m sorry..”
It’s like the ground disappears beneath my body. No, I can’t faint right now. I need to be strong, get some answers. I need to get out of here, soon!
Eve puts on her most innocent smile and says: “Alright, if I’m his granddaughter, why am I here? What does he wants from me?”
“You’re the only heir of this pack, miss Eve. Our Luna died giving birth to Thomas, and Alpha Talon didn’t find a new Luna. Thomas was their only child.”
“But I still don’t understand. How can I be his daughter, if I’m only twelve years old? Did everyone lie to me?” Eve whispers, confused.
“Miss Eve, to be honest, I would never have guessed you’re only twelve years old. You - uuhhh - have a very nice and feminine body. Too feminine for twelve years old.” His cheeks turns red.
I look down to my body, only to see myself with renewed eyes. I’ve always felt different from the other girls of my age. They were so… childish!
“But, you never met my mom! She has a voluptuous body, she gave me these soft curves.” I try to contradict his comment.
The friendly nurse shakes his head in denial. “I’m sorry, miss Eve. I bet your mom is a gorgeous lady and responsible for your beauty, but this is not only genes.” He stops talking and think a while. “I’m not sure if I can do anything for you, right now. I’m not even sure if I had the permission to show you the maternity test. So, before I leave, is there anything I can do for you?”
“I would love something to eat. Everything is fine, but please no peas. I really, really hate those awful green little monsters..” I make a disgusting face. I look at the nurse and it looks like he just saw a ghost. “Uhhh? You OK?” I ask him.
“Jeah, uhh - Thomas hated peas too. I had a flashback. I’m sorry. I will bring you some food in fifteen minutes. I’ll be right back..” and he rushes his way out.
This is weird, this place is weird. I still don’t know where I am and with every question answered, a new one arises. I sigh. So, I do know mom and dad lied to me my whole life. Not only about my heritage, but also about my age. Alpha Talon said he’s the leader of the Shadow Pack and called himself ‘King of the East’. I’ve never heard of the Shadow Pack before, but I guess I’m somewhere in the east right now. It’s a start.
If I only could convince them to uncuff me. I need to find some clues in this room, about this place and my origins. I want to escape and go back to my own pack. Yes, I need to escape. The sooner, the better...
