Unexpected
Mom felt guilty, but it was better for Crissie if she left the room. So, she went, promising Crissie she would do anything to find a solution. Let’s hope so.
“Pumpkin? Are you OK?” I walk over to my mate, ready to comfort her. She’s standing near her little kitchen, making us something to drink. “Would you like something to eat? Your mom is making us lunch, downstairs.”
Crissie nods her head: “No, it’s fine. I don’t want to sit downstairs, faking a good mood and having lunch with mom. Can you ask her if she can bring us something?”
“Alright, I’ll be back soon.”. I walk downstairs to ask her mom if she can make us something to eat, for lunch. Luckily, her mom understands. I guess she knew something was going on the moment Bonnie left her house, without a smalltalk. I went back upstairs after 10 minutes, with one large cheese-and-salad sandwich for me, and a smaller chicken-sandwich for Crissie. Although I’m not against eating meat, I’m convinced that a balance is important. We don’t need that much meat, vegetables and fruit are the more important parts of my daily diet.
“Crissie? I’m back, your mother made you a chicken-sandwich..” I say.
She’s sitting down on one of the two seats in her room, and I’m walking over to her. I take the other seat and give her the sandwich.
“Thanks, Joshua. You’re the sweetest. It smells amazing.”
I smile, she has no idea. If someone is sweet in this room, it’s her. I look at how she eats her sandwich. Although she’s a classy woman, when she’s at home she eats like a beast. She tries to get a big bite of her sandwich, but her mouth is too small to catch up. Chicken is falling on her lap. She closes her eyes, enjoying her food. I chuckle, she definitely is made for me! She loves food as much as us, werewolves. She just happens to have a slower metabolism and smaller stomach, making her eat less at the time.
“Whuuut?”
Crissie notices I’m staring at her. “Nothing, it’s just that you are super sweet and still stunning as hell, even when you’re eating a sandwich and making a mess while doing it.” I say to her.
“Oh stop, mister Romance. Just eat yours..” Crissie response, referring to my own sandwich.
After we finished lunch, we both felt better. Yes, mom made a mistake, but we have to focus on the solution, right now. “Crissie, if mom can bring us to the place where she found the mage before - are you able to pick up a track from there?”
She frowns her head, thinking. “Hmmm. I’m not sure. I don’t know what I’m able to do, Joshua. It’s just, I need answers. I need help, that’s why I need to find him in the first place. My father, I mean.” She sighs. “So, no, I really don’t know. I’m fed up with those stupid books too. They’re only creating questions, instead of giving me answers. They’re not of use at all!”
Crissie is getting frustrated, again. “Look at this!” She lit some flames in her hands. “What do I need to do with these? It’s getting a curse, too. I’m feeling hot inside, everyday it gets worse. I’m not even sure if it’s from the flames, or the frustration I’m stuck on this. But really, Joshua, I have the feeling that soon, I’m not be able to control my fire anymore.”
She looks at me with worry in her eyes, and to be honest: I’m worried too! “Really? Why didn’t you talk to me about this before? Pumpkin, you’re my everything. How many times do I have to explain to you? It doesn’t matter what time it is, what day or about what subject: I’m always there for you!”
She nods. “I know you say that, but I’m just a human: a human mage. At one point you’re going to get bored with me. I’m not able to give you the things a she-wolf can, Joshua. I don’t want to get too involved with you, and you shouldn’t with me either. Please, try to let go of me before you get hurt.”
I’m shocked. She said what? I feel how my mouth falls open and I’m staring at her seriously looking face. “For real? You think this is all a joke to me? Have you any idea how it feels to be with you but at the same time I can’t? How I’m almost pulled towards you every day, like a magnet, but not able to answer that feeling? How it feels to tame my wolf, every time I’m with you? But I don’t care! I DON’T CARE!” A growl leaves my body. I don’t get it, I’m already being punished - every day. But I’m not complaining, at all! She’s my mate, my fated mate. How can I let go of her?
I should’ve known that a tantrum is not affecting Crissie. She’s not afraid of me, in fact: I’ve never seen her afraid of any wolf. I guess it’s her human-roots, humans are not affected that much by the wolf-aura's. But I can see something shocked her. “Did you growl at me?” she asks.
Oh crap. “I’m sorry, I shouldn’t have. But here’s the proof how hard it can be to control my instincts, my inner-beast.”
She’s not amused, her eyes are ice-cold. “Well, you better should. I’m not a little cat, your dog can play with. I’ve feelings too. Besides, am I just a burden for you? Do I make it hard for you? I’ve not asked for being your mate, either, Joshua! It’s not my fault! Leave, Joshua, leave. I don’t want to see you again. LEAVE!” Her voice cracks, and tears are forming in her eyes.
“But, Crissie! I didn’t mean it that way, I would never, ever, play with your feelings. It’s just that I…”
But I can’t express myself the way I want. She isn’t letting me, either. She’s already at her bedroom door, opening it for me. I have to say, she’s the one scaring me at this point. Her eyes are cold as ice, but fire is radiating from her body. I can feel the warmth the moment I walk past her. She was serious, when she told me the heat inside her is increasing. I’ve not had much time to think about it, she shuts the door behind me.
I turn around, facing a closed door. “Please Crissie! I didn’t want to hurt your feelings, I meant it’s not a big deal, having a human like you as my mate! I’m happy to endure the hard parts of it!”
I didn’t see it coming. But hell yea, I felt it. An incredibly intense heat hits my face. Pain is all I can feel and the moment I hit the ground, my vision goes black.
