Doubts

-Adam POV-

It’s 09:00 AM. I’m laying in my bed, insanely tired. I had troubles sleeping, last night. I stretch my arms above my head and I feel the muscle pain all over my body. Ugh. This is gonna be a long night, I’m glad I’m a werewolf. Wolves are healing faster than humans. I step out of my bed and grab a shirt and jeans. I’m heading downstairs and see one of the omega’s making breakfast.

“Hi Steve, how you doin’? What are you making?” Steve turns around and smiles back at me. “Hey Adam, good morning. I’m fine, thanks. I’ve made you some pancakes, your favourites. With chocolate. How do you feel, after last night?”

“That sounds amazing, Steve! Thanks.. I’m still a bit tired, and my muscles hurts. But nothing my body can’t heal.. I’m worried about mom, though.”

Steve nods, and I see the worry in his eyes, too. “I hope she will recover soon. Are you gonna visit her today?”

“Off course, but we first need to talk to the elders, they’re coming around 10 AM. Good you asked. Can you bring us some coffee and tea, around 10:15? We will be in mom’s office..”

“Sure thing, Adam! Link me when you need something else, will ya? I need to go now, is there anything else I can do for you right now?” asks Steve.

“No, I’m fine. Gonna eat in silence today. Thanks and have a nice day!”

Steve leaves the kitchen. Steve is one of our bests cooks. He exactly knows what I like and don’t like. When I was younger, I picked some berries and brought them to Steve. He made me the most amazing cupcakes with berries! Golden memories…

After breakfast, I changed clothes to something more formal. I decided to prepare in mom’s office. In about 20 minutes, the elders will be here. I look around my mom’s office and notice the cleaners did an amazing job in the room. There is no trace of blood, anywhere, anymore. It smells fresh in here too. I start printing out some official documents, when I heard Joshua’s voice: “Morning, Adam.” I surprisingly turn around and say: “Heej, you’re early. Is everything fine?”

“Yeah, I’m good. Mom’s in the shower - she will be here soon. Can I help you with something?”

I shake my head, “No, I was just printing this stuff. We need to declare what happened yesterday, to make the attack official. You know mom is not able to run this pack right now. And your dad is no longer our Beta.” I look Josh in the eyes:

“Josh, are you ready to become the next Beta? You’re seventeen, turning eighteen this winter. In terms of law, you’re ready. What about you?”

I see doubt in Joshua’s eyes when he answers me: “I’m really not sure, Adam. We’ll see what the Elders will say.”

I hear a knock on the door. Lisa, an omega, is standing at the door with an Elder. “The Elder is here, Adam. Can he join you?”

“Off course, Lisa. Let him in. Can you look at Beta for me? Bonnie isn’t here, yet. She needs to join us as well. I’m a bit worried.” Lisa nods and me, and closes the door.

I walk over to the Elder. I guess he’s in his fifties. He’s a tall guy. His brown, muscular and fit body is impressive. His black eyes looks friendly though. I shake his hand firmly - I don’t wanna appear like a young boy. “Welcome, mister…??” I ask the Elder.

“Thanks, I’m Scott, Daniel Scott. Please, call me Daniel. You’re Adam, right? The Luna’s son? I’ve heard there were some activities here, yesterday? Can you tell me everything please?”

“Welcome Daniel, thanks for coming on such short notice. Please, sit down. And yes, I’m Adam. I’ll explain everything.”

At the moment I want to start explaining, both Steve and Bonnie enter the room. Bonnie looks tired, and takes the seat next to Joshua. Steve brought the coffee table, and puts it in the corner of the room and leaves silently. I nod at both of them, before I start talking.

After 45 minutes, I’m done talking. Nobody interrupted me, they all let me do the talking. Daniel sighs and has a big frown in his forehead. “This is a complicated situation. Can I use a spare room to make some phone calls?” I nod at him: “Off course! Around the corner, to the right, there’s the library. You can quietly make calls there. Take the time you need.”

He grabs his phone and starts searching through the numbers and says: “Beta, you and your son need to think about the Beta position. Before I leave today, we need to know - do you both understand?” without his head changing position, his eyes look over the phone and meet with Bonnie and Josh. They nod. “Good,” says Daniel, “I’ll be back in 30 minutes.”

After he leaves the room, I look at the both of them: “Well, what are we gonna do? Bonnie, did you already think about this?”

She looks at me, with a small smile around her lips: “Yes, Adam. I don’t wanna be Beta anymore. I never wanted to be the Beta without a partner, helping me. It’s time to move on. I think Joshua needs to be the Beta. Off course I’ll be here if he needs me to. He’s still a student and I want him to finish school. What do you think, Josh?” Bonnie is now looking at Joshua.

He’s staring at his feet, “I’m scared. I’m not sure if I’m ready, to be honest.”

“Josh! Look at me!” I look at Joshua. He looks back, I smile at him while I say: “You know this is gonna be the only chance for you to officially boss me around, right? You know I can’t be the Alpha, not yet...”

He smiles back: ”Right, and I can never say ‘no’ to an opportunity like that, can I?”
