Bonnie's secret

“You found whát?” Crissie asks mom, completely baffled.

And mom starts explaining, about the desire to help James get his mind back, so she could face him about the past. She didn’t explain the details, but Crissie understands it must be important.

“And how did you find the mage? I mean.. I’ve searched for days, but I couldn’t find a clue! How?” Crissie asks.

I have to say, I’m curious too. I’ve helped Crissie over the past weeks, trying to find information about her heritage. The box and searching didn’t do the trick. Although we know her father must be a mage, due to how the mage-thing works. But it’s difficult to find information about something old and well-hidden like mages, or dragons. Because it’s still a mystery why there’s a dragon’s crescent in the box.

I can see mom is doubting, but she has to tell. It’s important, and Crissie deserves the truth. “Mom, it’s better to tell. She deserves it.”

“I know, Joshua. I do know, for real. But I haven’t told anyone..” mom says.

“About what?”

“About the reason why I know things, why I knew where the mage was, for example.” she says.

“Now you’re confusing me. What do you mean?” She’s really talking in riddles. I can’t follow her.

“You know I’m a Chosen One, too. Right?” Mom looks at me. “And they have powers. I have one too.” Mom looks down at her feet.

“WAIT! Bonnie? You are a Chosen One too? What the hell?” Crissie is stunned. I forget, I didn’t tell her before, mom explicitly asked me to let her tell the ones who needed to know. And apparently she didn’t think Crissie belonged to that group.

“Yes, Crissie. I’m sorry I didn’t tell you before, and I asked Joshua to shut his mouth. I wanted to tell it myself.” Mom explains. “But the reason I found the mage is because it has something to do with my powers. It’s important for you to know that the exact power shifts a few generations. That means that every power comes back after a few births. So my power can be the same as someone born around 4 or 5 generations ago. There’s some kind of rotation. And every family has their own kind of powers. Some are big fighters, others are able to manipulate minds, like our Luna. And our family tree is able to see things, others can’t. Like Eve, she can see conversation’s, minds. She’s able to intervene in their minds too, by mindlinking any creature on earth. Well, I’ve something similar, but different at the same time. I can sense where anyone is. Not only wolves, but every other creature too. Within specific boundaries, of course. It’s not that I can sense anyone on earth, they have to be ‘in range’, although I haven’t found out what my specific range is, to be honest.”

Mom paused for a moment, leaving us the opportunity to adjust all this. “But mom, does that mean Eve is somehow related to our Luna? I mean, they both do something with minds..” I ask.

Mom shakes her head. “No, my dear. It’s completely different. Eve can’t control minds, and Luna can’t read them. Mind controlling and seeing through the layers of earth are completely different, although I understand why you think they’re a bit the same.”

I nod. That makes sense.

Crissie starts talking: “So, when you want to find a mage, you ‘sense’ it? Trying to find a creature that has the same, yeah.. same what exactly?”

“Well, every creature has their own aura, or color. Of course I can sense, feel, smell the wolves very well. It’s my own, too. Humans, mages, vampires or bears, they all have different colors or aura’s. Everyone who is related somehow to humans, has colors. So the humans, mages and vampires all have their own color. All that are related to animals, to nature, have aura’s: werewolves, bears and even dragons. If I want to find someone, I just have to ‘scan’ for their color. The difficulty is that I do not always know what I’m searching for. For example: a mage can have different colors. You, my dear, have a reddish one. That fits your fiery nature. Besides, I can only sense the colors or aura’s when their nature or inner-beast is ‘out’, that’s why I never sensed you before, Crissie. But it’s not always completely clear. Mages don’t always have one specific nature, some are more ‘general’ with mixed colors. I call them the naturals. So, only when I heard about your background and the mage-cyclus, I knew where I needed to search for.” Mom says.

She continues: “That’s why I knew when and where we needed to leave or heading to when you were younger, Joshua. When we were living like rogues. I felt the aura of Luna Avery, Chosen Ones has golden aura’s in my vision. They’re the only ones that have this specific aura. I knew we would be safe here.”

I nod, mom indeed was the one who told everyone when we needed to leave. When we were going ‘on the run’ again. She always said ‘she just knew’. That it was her motherly instinct. But now I know it had more ‘depth’.

“So? Can you bring us to that mage, Bonnie? I think the mage is my relative, I need to meet him.” Crissie talks.

“Yes, theoretically I can. But it’s not that simple. The mage I found only helped me if I promised him one thing: I cannot try to find him again. He wanted to stay hidden.” Bonnie says.

I look at Crissie and I can see she’s shocked. “NO! How could you! You knew I was on the search for my relative, you found him because of me! And you took the only opportunity I had to find him, for your own good?”

I’m shocked to. How could my mom? That’s not like her own behaviour. She’s always so kind and patient. I guess my father woke up the worst in her.

“Mom? Can’t you circumvent it somehow? Just search for his color, right?”

Mom shakes her head. “No, my dear. He placed a spell on my vision, blocking his color.”
