One of ours

I hear the shower running again, and I softly close the door behind me. I hurry over to our wing, I think I’m going to need some washing too. I chuckle, if mom knows… I was so caught up in my thoughts that I bumped into my mom.

“WAAAAHH! MOM! You were scaring me! I’ve still 5 minutes left, I’ll be there soon - I promise.” I yell and stare in mom’s face.

“Adam, nice to see you too.” Mom says, and she sniffs the air. She smiles. “I thought you weren’t ready, but I absolutely smell her scent on you, son. Good job…”

“No, mom, it’s not what it looks like.”

“Not? Hmm… and how are you explaining her scent all…” Mom starts asking.

“Oh please! Stop! I’m not going to tell you. And if you don’t mind, I’ve only 4 minutes left. Bye!” And I run beside her and hurry to my room.

-Avery POV-

“So, Eve, you think you can read minds? But not all of them?” Avery asks Eve.

“Yes, Luna. It was a bit weird though.. I told Adam before, I’m not able to read strong minds.”

“Why are you calling it strong minds?”

“Well, I’m not sure. But I can’t read yours, mom’s, or Adam’s. I’ve also trouble to find information in Joshua’s. Then I thought: you are all Alpha’s right? They’re considered the strongest wolves. So maybe they’ve the strongest minds as well..”

I nod, she’s right. Most Alpha’s are considered the strong kind. Of course, like other ones too, there are weak Alpha’s as well, but just forget that for a moment. “Alright, let’s say you can’t read the strongest minds, the Alpha’s. That means there are a lot of minds left. Think about the Gamma, Omega’s and all the others. What about humans?” I ask, curiously.

Eve shakes her head. “I don’t know, I haven’t tried. Like I said, it happened for the first time yesterday. I haven’t had the time to try it out, yet.”

“Well, maybe we should. Can you call her, Crissie?” I ask her.

Eve smiles. “No, I’m sorry. She hated it to be used as a guinea pig the last time. I’ve promised her I wouldn’t mindlink her, unless it’s an emergency. But I will link Joshua, I bet he’s with her.” And like she said, her eyes became dark: a sign she’s mindlinking. It takes a few moments but at the end Eve sighed with relief. “They’re coming.”

Only seconds later a portal starts showing up and Crissie and Joshua walk in the room.

“Well, well, well…” Crissie said with a smile. “It looks like you need my help again. Let me guess: you want to test a human? What is it this time?”

I smile, Crissie is fierce - I like her a lot. “Crissie, it looks like Eve can read minds of some wolves. We want to test if she can read other creatures as well. And you happen to be the only human in our pack, so.. Would you mind?”

Crissie looks at me and a frown is starting to show. “I’m not sure, how does it work? Should I just think about something?” she asks.

Eve takes over: “Indeed, Crissie. I’m so sorry that I have to ask you again, but it would mean the world to me, if you don’t mind.”

Crissie nods. “Alright then. What did you have in mind?”

“Well..” Eve said, “... I found out it happened after I centered my emotions to make power. Adam told me it’s showing my aura. Maybe that’s a way to open other sentences of mine as well. So the moment I say I’m ready, you have to think about something, like a number. A difficult one.”

“I can do that.” Crissie response.

I’m watching this scene, and I have to say: I’m curious as hell. I haven’t met a lot of Chosen One’s, so I’m not sure what we all can do. This is incredibly interesting.

I see how Eve is concentrating on her emotions, her feelings. An aura starts to show. Although it’s thin, I definitely can feel her warm but warning aura. I smile, she’s going to be great.

After a minute or so, Eve says: “I think I’m ready…” and I see how she’s looking at Crissie. It’s funny, Eve’s eyes are a bit glowing as well. I guess that’s a Chosen One’s thing.

I watch Eve and Crissie and I can tell they’re working on something. Then I hear Eve’s voice:

“It’s all blank. I - I think I can’t read yours, Crissie.” Her voice sounds surprised. “I guess I have limitations as well..”

I can see the relief on Crissie’s face when she says: “Hah! That’s good for me though. I hate it when I know somebody is able to read my mind - no offense…”

Eve answers: “It’s OK, I can understand.” She frowns. “It’s weird though. When I try this on you Luna, by example, it feels like there's a block or something. Like a door that’s locked and I can’t open it. But at Crissie’s, it feels like there’s nothing - really nothing. It’s completely blank. That’s super weird.”

I think about it, and it makes sense. “I don’t think we’re supposed to, Eve. You’re able to mindlink Crissie, other creatures. But they still can’t do anything back. That means you’re able to give, but not to take, from other creatures than ours.”

Eve looks confused. “What do you mean, exactly?”

I explain: “That means that you can give information to others, like mindlink them. But they can’t mindlink back - you can’t take or receive from that. Do you follow?”

Eve nods. “Aaaahh, I see. So, it means that I can’t take information out of her mind, because Crissie isn’t one of ours.”

I nod.

“But.. In that case…” Eve looks over to me, and I nod again. “Yes, Eve, that means that the one who is controlling Ethan’s and the other’s minds, is one of ours..”
