Exploring powers

After breakfast, we stayed in the kitchen, talking. It was good to be here, all together. I look around the table and I see my gorgeous mate, Bonnie, Joshua and Crissie, Bonnie and my mom. Marcus and Steve, it’s truly good to be complete.

“Adam! I asked you something!”

“Mmmmhh?” I look up at the direction I heard her lovely voice.

“I asked if you would like to train with me, Crissie and Joshua.” Eve asks me.

“Eve! I’ve raised you better. It’s ‘Crissie, Joshua and I’. Not ‘me’ and the rest…” Bonnie shakes her head, and I burst out laughing. “Sweet Bonnie, you’ll always be the same, aren’t you? Always polite. I love you!” I say to her.

Then I look back at Eve and I say: “Train with you? But you’re still not cured, you told me this morning you still have headaches after you woke up from the coma. So no, you’re not going to train. I would love to kick Joshua’s ass though..” and I wink at him.

“Oh come on, Adam! That doesn’t mean I can’t train! I’m eager to let my muscles do something other than walking and breathing. I promise I’ll be careful! I’ll train with Crissie than. She doesn’t look dangerous…”

Eve looks at Crissie and I know she thinks Crissie isn’t strong. But I’ve seen her the past few days. Her power is growing, so is her magic. Yes, I bet Eve can kick Crissie’s ass when they have a fight with fists. Eve has always been a feisty little girl and trained since she’s six years old, like all wolves do. She’s a smart fighter, not the strongest one; but she knows how to control a fight to make sure all the circumstances are working in her favour. But Crissie has been training too, and worked a lot to control the magic.

“Eve, seriously. You can look at me with those puppy eyes, but you won’t win this argument. I’ll never let you get hurt, when it’s within my powers. So. You can watch us train and keep us company, deal?”

Eve knows it’s a waste of time to discuss this with Adam, so she lets go. “Fine. I’ll watch.” She rolls her eyes, and I know she’s not happy with it.

I look at Joshua and Crissie and ask: “Ready to rumble?” Both nod their heads, but the eyes of Crissie almost spits fire when she says: “But I’ll go first, mister. If you want to fight with Joshua, you need to go through me first. Let’s go!”

I laugh out loud. “Alright, foxie. But I’m not going to hold myself.”

“I’m not expecting you to do so, Adam. In fact: if you do, you’ll lose. I promise!” Crissie quickly responds.

---

We’ve changed into training clothes, and as promised: Eve’s sitting against the wall in a corner of the gym - looking furious. I chuckle, my feisty little girl. I wouldn’t be surprised if she and Crissie are going to be best friends, like Joshua and I. They’ve similar personalities. Crissie is just more mature and ‘developed’. But they’re both spicy, bold and stubborn girls.

“Alright, foxie: show me what you’ve got! You can use some of your magic, if I’m allowed to use some of mine as well. Deal?” I ask Crissie.

“Deal! It’s going to be fun!”

I’m warning Ace to be alert, to help me with his instincts. I bet I’m going to need them. But Crissie doesn’t let me think about my tactics for a long time, she’s the first one who makes a move. She’s throwing some punches at my head, but I could easily block them.

“You really should do better, if you want to win this game, missy.” I say to her with a smile at my face.

We start sparring, both of us are trying to find some weak spots. Crissie is also tiny, like Eve. But I think Eve’s still a bit smaller. But Crissie isn’t muscular at all, she’s almost fragile. But don’t let her looks fool you. She knows how to throw some pinches.

“Ooouuch, that hurts!” I suddenly yell at Crissie. She smiles back at me and says: “You need to focus, mister. I’m not going to let you win, remember?” Damn, that girl has some seriously strong legs! That kick hurt as hell, I feel the muscles from my right upper leg protest, and I rub against it before I stand back straight again. “Alright, foxie. Now it’s on.. I’m starting to get pissed. I don’t care you’re a woman anymore, I’m going to hurt you back!”

So I quickly walk over to her and throw some serious punches at her upper arm and shoulder, trying to get her out of balance. But the moment my fist should hit her shoulder, I feel nothing. No impact, at all, and I’m the one facing the ground.

“What the hell did you do?” I ask completely stunned and confused. I look over my shoulder and see Crissie standing behind me, perfectly fine.

“That’s called blinking, remember? The moment you was going to hit me, I used some of my magic to blink away, dodging your punch. It’s nice, isn’t it?”

“Oh my goodness, that’s sick.” I mumble and I stand up. “But this time you surprised me. That’s not going to happen again!” I answer.

“We’ll see.” she says, mysteriously.

I look over at Eve and I can see she’s having a good time, seeing my ass getting kicked. I roll my eyes and say: “You should support me, Eve. Not laugh at me!”

We continue the fight, and Crissie used her blink a few other times. I’m getting better at predicting her moves. Wait, that’s it! Foreseeing her moves! I’m an owl too, I should be able to foresee things, right? What about trying to foresee her moves for real? The problem is, I’ve no idea how I can get in contact with my owl.

*Ace, do you know how I can reach Quinn?*

*Not for sure, but I can try to make a link. In the end we, the beasts, share a bond together. Maybe I can find her!*

*Oh shit, that hurts again. Hurry! Crissie’s good. I don’t want to lose to a girl!*

I focus on the fight again, and I can see she’s getting tired. I’m able to reach her a couple of times and do some damage. Lucky me, with me being an Alpha druid and training for years - the length of the fight is favouring me. My endurance is a lot better than hers.

“Don’t think you’re going to win that easily, only because I’m getting tired, Adam! I still got a few tricks on my sleeve..” Crissie suddenly says to me.

And that’s the moment I see her hand is starting to glow. “Wooow! Is that fire?” I ask her. But I’ve not much time to think about it, because she’s throwing a little fireball at my direction. I could dodge it a millisecond before it would’ve hit me. I thought I dodged it completely until I smell something burning. “Oh shit…” I say, while I hit myself on the side of my head.

“Crissie! That was a bit of my hair! Oh, you’re so gonna pay for that!” I yell out loud, enraged.

“It’s true, Crissie. Watch out! He’s really proud of his hair, nobody can touch it..” Eve yells from her position.

But I’m not able to get close at her, anymore. She’s not letting me. Everytime I try to, she’s firing little fireballs at my direction. “What the hell Crissie, what is this? When did you learn to control fire?” I ask her, frustrated.

“Well, somewhere in the last few days I found out that masters of magic, mages, almost always have their preferences when it comes to the kind of magic they use. Ice, fire, earth and dark magic are four types of magic I could find information about. And that was the moment I realized I’ve always hated the cold and liked the sun and warmth more than anything in the world. In fact: my mother always said I’ve fireproof hands. She wanted me to get the food out of the oven and stuff like that. I can’t remember I’ve ever burned myself, well at least it didn’t hurt me. So, I thought that fire was probably a type of magic that could fit me. And here it is, fire..” Crissie explained while fireballs are following her words.

“Jeez, Crissie. Give me a minute..” I say, while I dodge the fireballs. “But that’s amazing! I guess I could’ve known. Look at you! Your bright orange colored hair suits the fire in your hands.”

*Hi Adam. You needed me?* I hear a voice circling around the area. “Do you guys hear that?” I ask, confused.

“Is that a way to distract me, Adam? That’s not going to work..” Crissie says, while a fireball starts to show on her right hand again.

“No for real!” I say.

*Ace told me you want to try some new foreseeing stuff?* I hear the voice again, but now I realized it’s Quinn! Although I’ve no idea how I should respond to her. It doesn’t sound like a mindlink, more of an echo circling around in this room.

*Don’t worry, I can still hear you through Ace’s thoughts.*

*Good. But yes, I want to know if we can foresee Crissie’s fighting moves. I can’t let her win.* I say to myself, in thoughts.

“Adam? Are you ready to continue? What are you doing?” Crissie asks, a bit confused.

Then a kind of flash follows, it’s like the time is slowed or something. It’s like I’m pushed out of my own body and now I can oversee the gym and how Crissie is firing 3 balls closely after each other. And as fast I was seeing this short timeframe, I’m back in my body again. Time passes normally again and I see how Crissie’s hands fire flames in my direction. One, two, three… And silence. I smile, it worked!
“I’m back, Crissie. Let’s do this again!”

*That was awesome, Quinn! Again!*

And a new short timeframe hits my sight, making it possible to predict her next two moves. The moment I’m ‘back on my feet’, I dodge the two fireballs and I jump in her direction, and my left fist hits her jaw. Crissie’s on the ground now, and I sit down on her stomach while I hold her hands pinned down. “That was awesome, Crissie. But as I said: I have my own powers..”

Now it’s Crissie’s turn to be surprised. “Alright, I give up! You got me! But, what the freck? It was almost like you predicted when I was going to sent the fireballs your way.. Wait...”

I smile and when I helped Crissie get back on her feet I say: “That was because I could! My owl, Quinn, helped me with that.” And I explained them what happened during the fight.

“Joshua, if you don’t mind, we continue our fight at another time. I’m exhausted! I’ve trained this morning as well, and I think it’s enough.”

Joshua nods. “For sure. Besides, after what I’ve seen today, I bet I’ve no chance to win while fighting you, anymore.” He then walks over at Crissie and gives her a kiss on the lips. “But you did great, pumpkin. You were awesome!”
