Discussing the plan
Adam invited me to the packhouse. Together with Joshua and the Luna and Gamma. Apparently he wants to discuss the plans to rescue Eve. But I’m nervous. Luna saw my teleportation, once. But Adam didn’t. And I’m scared that I’m not good enough, that I’ll make mistakes on the *moment suprême.*
I open the door of Luna’s office and stare in the faces of all the others. “Am I the last one?” I ask them. “.. surprise, surprise..” I mumble sarcastic while I take a seat.
“OK, listen up..” Adam says to his mom, Joshua, Crissie and Marcus. “...we need to discuss our plans. We’re not sure how much time we have left. We don’t know what they do with Eve, so I want to take her back home as soon as possible.”
Adam stops talking for awhile and it looks like he’s thinking. Luna Avery clears her throat and Adam looks up, surprised. “Right.. Where was I?”
“The plans, Adam..” says Luna Avery.
Adam nods and continues: “Well, we fixed ‘the getaway car’. Crissie - that’s your part. You will create a portal to bring us into the woods, close to Eve, and help us escape with a portal back to our packhouse.”
I feel tingles in my belly. Not the excited ones, like the ones Joshua gives me, but the scared ones. You know, when you’re anxious for a schoolexam or something? That kind of feeling. I sigh.
“... problem is that we don’t know what to do with the hunters, yet.” I hear Adams voice. Oh crap, I guess I’ve missed something.
“Marcus, do you have any ideas?” Adam asks our Gamma.
“Hmmm.. Not sure yet, to be honest. I can ask Levi to help me think about the strategy or fightplans. I - …”
“No!” Adam interrupts Marcus. “I don’t want anybody to know, yet. And I’m not sure, but I think fighting will not be the best idea. But I agree with you, we should be prepared for it.”
“So, what do you want me to do than?” Marcus asks Adam, confused.
“I don’t know!” Adam gets frustrated. “I’m just a boy, trying to act like an Alpha. But I’m not…” He looks at his mom and says: “Mom, please. Take it over from here. I’m not ready.”
Luna Avery smiles to Adam and says: “You will be one day, son.”
“Alright. So, we have Crissie to help us with the transportation. We have Adam, with his ability to heal when anything goes wrong. Marcus, you’re an amazing fighter. Together with Levi, you can develop a great fighting plan.” Luna Avery looks at Adam, before she continues: “I know you don’t want to fight, Adam. But I’m afraid we can’t avoid it. So, Marcus, you have my blessing to discuss a plan with Levi. We’re not sure how many wolves can get through Crissie’s portal, so don’t bring to many. We’ll be back at you with numbers, when we know.”
Marcus nods, and leaves the room.
“But.. I also agree with the fact that we should be as silent as possible. With my ability to control somebody’s mind, I can help too.”
“Mom, I’m sorry, but are you sure you’ll come too? We can’t let our pack defenseless. If we all leave the pack, there’s nobody to protect this pack. You’re the Luna, you can’t leave.” Adams says to Avery.
I’ve watched this conversation so far, and I do agree with Adam. I know he’s a little brat, inexperienced and acting childish sometimes. But he’s right on this. “I think he’s right, Luna.” I say, directly feeling sorry for interrupting the meeting.
Luna Avery looks at me for a moment and starts to smile. “Alright, I’m not happy with it, but I agree. I’ll find a way to bring somebody else in my place. Don’t worry.”
They start arguing again, and I’m not listening anymore. My thoughts are wandering off.
“Crissie?” I hear Joshua’s voice. “Oh sorry, what? I wasn’t listening, I’m sorry..” I respond.
“It’s OK, pumpkin. I asked you if there’s something in that old book about hunters. Have you read something about it?”
I think about it, but I can’t remember. “I don’t think so, why?” I ask him.
“Well, long story short: hunters want to kill werewolves. It looks like they’re primarily after the members of the Chosen Bloodline, but they’re made to kill werewolves. They have weird poisoned arrows, we can’t find out what kind of poison it is. It killed a lot of our wolves in the coup a few weeks ago. I thought - there might be something in your book about it. Maybe magic can help us out.”
It took me awhile before I understood where he was referring to. “Oh no.. No no no, I’m not a fighter. I can’t go into the battlefield with you all. Nope, not doing it. I’m only here for your free ride to the woods and back. Don’t ask me this!” I yell to the group.
“Honey, please. I’m not saying you must. But, maybe we find some information that can help us with the hunters. Will you help us try to find that, please?”
I try to calm myself down and think about his words. “That should work. Alright.”
Luna Avery claps her hands with joy. “Good! We have a plan, well.. kind off.. Crissie: you know what to do, find us some information. Oh, and can you find out how many people can go through your portal, please? I want to bring as many wolves as possible.”
I nod. “Sure thing, Luna. Lots to do. I’m gonna go then.”
I smile, stretch my arms in front of me and make the now familiar hand movements. Within seconds, a portal is showing in front of me. I look over my shoulder and say: “See ya!” and I step into my portal, back to my place.
