Feeling the connection

Two days later

-Eve POV-

“We need to hurry, her heat is almost over…” Talon said to the man next to him. Talon walks over to the window and looks at the trees in the backyard. The man doesn’t say anything, but nods affirmative. Talon continues: “Start the preparations, now.. We have ten or eleven hours before it’s to late. Keep me posted, will you?” Then he turns around and stares out of the window again.

I’m laying on my side, reading a book, when I hear the door opens. Maybe it’s Owen again, checking out on me. Without looking I say: “Hi Owen, did you bring me a snack?” Maybe it’s my mother's genes, but I’m always craving for something. I hear footsteps coming closer, but Owen isn’t answering me. That’s weird. I start feeling uncomfortable and I’m very wary of my surroundings right now. I close my eyes, to focus on my inner body. Is this real? Do I really feel her?

*Wolf?*

*Be careful…*

Wow, that was her! I immediately feel better, but she said I need to be careful. And the moment I want to look up, to see who it is, I feel a strong hand pushing on my nose and mouth and a strange voice says: “Silence. I’ll do it quickly. It’s over soon..” I try to look at my left side and I see a needle coming my way. Oh my goodness! He’s trying to intoxicate me!

Without thinking, I try to break loose of the strong hand and decide to let my wolf take control. I have no idea what I’m doing, but I had the feeling I needed to do. And she shifts. It’s a bit painful, though, but going fast. In a few seconds I’m on four feets. The man couldn’t hold my big head anymore and when I look at him, I can see he’s shocked.

“They told me you couldn’t shapeshift.. How??”

But off course, I can’t answer him. What an idiot.

*Go missy, do your thing. I’m not sure what he wants from me, but it’s not good.*

My wolf jumps on the man and bite him in his throat. I feel blood in my mouth and a loud crack. She broke his neck.

Now I’m shocked. What the..? What did I just do!?

*Oh fucking hell, I didn’t mean you should kill him! Now what?*

*Oh. Well, we solved this problem. Now let’s go out of here. The door is open.*

I look at the door and I can see the door is open, indeed. Maybe the man didn’t get the protocol to lock the door after you enter this room. So technically speaking I can just walk out of here.

*But why should they let me just walk out the door?*

*Because you’re on werewolf territory, and there are more wolves walking around? They don’t know you can shapeshift, so they wouldn’t recognize you either.*
Damn. She’s right. Smart girl.

I walk over to the door and look into the hallway. I see nurses and a desk in the distance. In front of the desk is a little girl waiting, with a big grey werewolf sitting besides her. I guess it’s normal here to shapeshift in the hospital? I know we’re not allowed to in our pack. One of the places where werewolves aren’t allowed. That has something to do with the germs or something.

So I start walking. I see the exit. I need five seconds.. Four… Three… Two..

“You! Wait!”

I hear a voice calling after me. Shit, I’m in trouble. I’m not from this pack. How am I going to communicate with her? I can’t mindlink random people.. And I can’t shift back in my human form, I’ll expose myself. I look around and see a young woman walk towards me.

“I haven’t seen you here in this hospital before, actually: I can’t recognize your wolf at all. Who are you? Are you family of a patient in here?”

Shit.. What should I do?

*Mindlink her.*
I hear my wolf’s voice.

*But how? I’m not even…*

*Trust me. Just do it.*

Alright. I’ve nothing to lose right now.

*Is it Ok to mindlink you? It’s a bit difficult to talk in this form…* I mindlink the woman in front of me. Her eyes widen and I can see she’s a bit surprised. Wow. I guess it worked!

*Ohh.. uhh, yeah of course it’s fine! You can mindlink me, I guess you are from our pack after all..!*

*Yeah, it’s my first shift, actually. So that’s why you didn’t recognizes my wolf..*

*Oooh! That makes sense.. Well, that’s OK! Can you tell me your name, at least?*

But before I can answer her, a doctor is yelling: “She’s gone! The mystery guest is gone!”
I take advantage of the distraction and quickly rushes outside.

When the nurse focuses on the wolf in front of her again, she sees the wolf is already gone. But the nurse has no time to think about it, and runs over to the doctor who just started a chaos in this hospital.

I’m standing outside! I’m free! But I’ve no idea what to do next. I’m not sure where I am either. Than I remembered the mountains are east of our pack. I scan the area to find the tops of the mountains I’ve seen before, when I was in my room watching the outdoors from my window. I just need to keep them in my back and I’ll almost find my way back home automatically. I’ve to hurry. It’s a long way back home…

Then I hear a known voice in my head, it’s soft and almost unhearable but I heard it:

*Little one, can you hear me?*

I freeze and stands still, unable to move. Since my birthday I feel an incredibly restless feeling, but I thought it was my heat messing up with my body. But now I hear this voice, and the feeling fades immediately. In the same time I’ve troubles keeping up with the shitload of feelings entering my body. What the hell is going on? And why can I hear his voice?

-Adam POV-

It’s like I’m hit with a wave of emotions. I don’t know why, but I can feel it’s Eve. I start to panic and rushes over to Bonnie’s wing. “Bonnie!!” I yell when I rushes into their living room. She looks surprised but smiles at me: “Yes, darling?”
I don’t know where to start, but there’s only one explanation for my feelings. “What’s Eve birthday again? I can’t remember…”

Bonnie looks sad and whispers: “It was the day before yesterday. The third of november. I’ve missed her birthday, I should have been there.. Her precious and special birthday…”

Shit. It’s true. She’s sixteen now. So she should be able to feel our bond, the connection, right? I just need to make sure she experience a trigger. I look over at Bonnie and say: “I’m so sorry you couldn’t make it to her birthday, Bonnie. But I will make sure we make up for it when she’s back. I promise.”

I walk over to my bedroom, trying to think about how I can trigger our mate-bond.

*Just mindlink her, it’s not that hard. You can mindlink everyone from this pack, remember?*

Oh crap. Ace is right, I am able to mindlink every pack member, but he knows it’s hard too, and almost impossible, to reach out to somebody that far away. But I’ll try.. I try to focus on her and try to picture her in my mind. I let Ace search for her too, I’m not sure if it works because as far I know she hasn’t shifted yet. But still, there’s a reason why all those feelings are hitting me at this specific moment, so at least we can try.

The second I think I feel a short connection with her, I make contact and ask:

*Little one, can you hear me?*
