Secrets unfold

-Joshua POV-

I’m on cloud nine, I had never thought I would find my mate at this young age! She’s amazing, stunning and I like the way she talks. Oh my goodness, I already know I’m gonna need her body as much I need the air to breathe.

I’m completely lost in thoughts, when I arrived at our wing in the packhouse. I open the door, but mom isn’t here. “Mom? Where are you? I want to talk.” I call around the living room.

I got no response, so I headed to her bedroom. I knock on the door: “Mom? I know you’re in there, may I come in?”

The only thing I hear is her stifling cry. Carefully I open the door and look around the corner.

Bonnie lies down on her bed, her head hidden in her pillow. She must be exhausted. Adam told me he left our wing almost 30 minutes ago. I sit down on her side of the bed and give her a kiss. Her cheeks are wet from her tears.

“Oh Josh, she’s gone! What should we do? She’s my little girl, I can’t stand her being away!” Bonnie cries.

“I don’t know mom, but she’s strong! You will see, she’s back in no time. We just need to find out who took her from us. And why…?” I respond to mom, while I’m patting her on the back - trying to comfort her. “But mom, come to the kitchen. I will make you some hot tea, and we we’ll talk about this. Crying isn’t helping us to get her back.” I stand up and walk towards the door. I say to her: “I expect you to be in the kitchen in five minutes.” and I leave the room.

Almost ten minutes later, Bonnie enters the kitchen. “Sorry Joshua, I want to help. I want to find her as soon as possible. I’m done crying for now.”

I nod at her. “Good. Drink your tea, while we talk. Because you need to talk now. I’ve the strange feeling you know more about this, don’t you?” I handed over her tea and wait for her response.

“How do you mean - I…”

“Oh shut up, you..! You know exactly what I mean, mom! Come on.. “ I yell at her, irritated.

A big sigh left her body and she shrug her shoulders. “Alright, Joshua. But I’m gonna tell you some things you will not be pleased with. And don’t you dare interrupting me while I’m talking. This is hard enough for me. Prepare to hear some news. I’ve warned you..” She starts talking.

“The first thing you need to know is that dad is not Eve’s father. She’s only your half-sister. You know, dad is not my true mate. I’ve never kept that a secret for the two of you. But you should know that I did find my mate, sixteen years ago.” She silenced for a few seconds before continuing.

“His name was Thom. The moment I saw him, I knew he was mine. But I was married by James. You were only two years old. So I told him, I can’t be with him. I didn’t want you to experience divorced parents. He was devastated that I didn’t wait to find my true mate before got attached to another man. But he understood. He understood there was nothing I could do at that point, and walked away from me.

But you know, I hope you can experience it yourself one day, the bond between true mates is very strong. It start bonding, the moment you see each other. I started seeing Thom, secretly. James is a very dominant man, he wouldn’t accept me seeing my true mate. After a few months I found out I was pregnant, and I knew the baby couldn’t be James’. When I told him, he went wild. James threatened me to kill Thom, so I never told him where he could find Thom. But he found him anyway. They didn’t even get into a fight, James is a coward. He knew he wouldn’t win, he isn’t a fighter. So James shot him in the back.”

Bonnie’s eyes start welling up, telling this story to Joshua. But she has to continue. She wants Joshua to know.
“We left our pack, and lived a few years as rogues. Until we found the White Moon Pack. Eve was deadly ill, and we needed medical help. Luckily, Avery is the sweetest Luna I’ve ever met. She never asked questions, and helped us. She accepted us and made us pack members. She said every child deserves it to grow up in a pack. She knew James’s a Beta, and because White Moon’s Beta at that time was an older, single man - she suggested to let us be the new Beta’s. She not only gave us a home, but a purpose as well. I’ll always be grateful for that. That’s how we got into this pack, Joshua.”

I look at her. “Oh you’re done talking? What am I missing? I don’t see the point, how is this gonna help us find Eve?”

Mom says: “Well, you were still two years old when she was born, Joshua. She’s not twelve years old. She’s fifteen, turning sixteen next spring. We hid her exact birthday to protect her. It was easy to do, she has always been tiny for her age and lacks talking until she was almost four years old. Nobody would've guessed we made up a few years. You should know that my mate’s family was a feared one. They are known for their bloody and dauntlessly way of handling things. If they found out that James killed their heir and me wearing his child, they would’ve killed James and took Eve away from me. I couldn’t handle the idea of you growing up without your father and sister, or me giving up my own daughter. I think Thom’s family, in some kind of way, found out Eve’s existence.”

I’m shocked.. “So, you’re telling me my whole life is a lie? Not only is she my hálf-sister, but now you’re saying she could be abducted by a bloody and fearless acting family as well?” I yell at mom. “AAAAGGHHH!” a frustrated moan leaves my body. “Why, mom, why? Why didn’t you tell me earlier?”

Bonnie looks at her hands, fold in her lap. She whispers: “Because it was not safe, Joshua. If anyone knew, I would lose you all. I’m not able to recover from a new loss. I’ve already lost my true mate, I can’t lose my children as well..”

A knock on the door interrupted our conversation. It's Adam. I look at mom: "We need to tell him. He deserves to know!"
