More surprises
Before we go, it is important to let others know. It can be dangerous, we’ve no idea what James is capable of. But I don’t want Adam to worry, so I mindlink Joshua.
*Josh? I need you in my office. Can you come, please?*
I don’t wait for an answer, I close the link and sit down behind my desk. I look outside, it’s still gorgeous in my garden. Especially now, still morning. The sun is trying to break through the mist, leaving an incredible warm tone on earth. I can see it’s cold outside, being close to december. At night, the temperatures already went below zero, freezing. I smile. I love being outside, and I don’t care about the temperatures. When Adam was little, we often took walks in the woods together. I’ve always known he has a connection with nature. I could feel it, when we were there. Too bad his girl ‘hates’ the cold. Eve’s always complaining about the temperatures.
Knock. Knock. I hear someone at the door. That must be Joshua. “Come in!” I say out loud, and the door opens. I look into a worried face and I smile. “It’s fine, Joshua, come in.” I try to comfort him, I can imagine being mindlinked by your Luna without explanation can be worrying.
Joshua sits down and is waiting for me to start the conversation. “Joshua, we have an issue. Your mom and I need to do something that can be dangerous. I want you to know.” and I explain most of the conversation between Bonnie and me before. Joshua isn’t interrupting me, but I can see he has trouble to do so.
“As my Beta, I wanted you to know. If anything happens to us, or one of us, you know where and how you can find us.” I say.
Joshua looks at me, shocked. “With all do respect, Luna, but you really think I’m going to let the two of you out there? Alone? Unguarded?” He shakes his head and mumbles: “Hell no.”
“Well, I’m your Luna, and if I say so, you listen. It isn’t that hard.” I know I’m being harsh right now, and maybe a bit unfair. But it’s the only way.
“Please, Luna. Understand how dangerous this is! You’re going after my father, not completely mind controlled anymore. You know that people are after you, the Chosen Ones. And now you’re saying that two of the four Chosen Ones are leaving this place, alone?” Joshua’s really baffled.
“It’s OK, Joshua. We will be carefull. Besides, you said it yourself: we are Chosen Ones. We are strong. We’ve our own powers, and 90 percent of the wolves have an automatically protecting attitude when it comes to Chosen Ones. That’s nature, it’s fine!” I say.
Joshua stands up and is walking around the room. I can see he’s overthinking my words. After a few minutes he stops and looks at me: “NO! It’s not fine Luna. It’s still 10 percent of the wolves who don’t have that instinct. Besides, I’m not sure if it’s still 90 percent, to be honest. There’s something going on, it’s war right now. Did you see all those men and women inside the woods? I’m not sure if they’re only human, I mean: Ethan was really strong! He injured one of ours with only one hand! That’s not the power of a human. Maybe not one of a wolf, but there has to be more. I can’t Luna, I just can’t.”
I hate to say it, but maybe Joshua is right. Maybe we can’t just walk over there and find James. We do not have enough information. It’s not about the sexes over here; in our world, the werewolves-world, female wolves are strong too. Because we have a sort of ranking system, a lot of female-wolves are stronger than males. Every wolf is trained the same, from a young age. We’ve always been warned about each other. Don’t let the looks blind you. A female isn’t weak, like how a lot of humans see it.
But it’s all about the situation, Joshua is talking about right now. “Alright, Joshua. I think you have a point, to be honest. What do you suggest?” I ask him.
“Well, what do you think of a little field research?” and Joshua smiles. I think I know where he’s heading to. “Hmmmm.. Tell me more.” I response.
“Well, my mom and dad are the only ones who know about the place, right? But we have Crissie. Maybe she can do the same as she did with Adam. Trying to connect and make a portal. Then, we sent a few warriors in. Maybe not only warriors, but spy’s as well. We try to get as much information about the place as we can. If they confirm my dad is there, we can make a plan. But the initial plan is to investigate, not to get questions.” James explains.
I nod. “That sounds like a plan.”

-Joshua POV-
I’ll have to tell Crissie. I’ll have to! My mom found a mage! That’s huge.. What if this is a family member of Crissie? She can get answers! I’m excited, but also worried. Should I talk to mom first? Or to Crissie? I’m not sure what’s the best approach, and I don’t want to hurt my mom or Crissie. Well, if I can’t make up my mind: there’s only one solution!
“Mom?! Can you go with me to Crissie? She wanted to talk with you..” I yell against her bedroom door.
A few minutes later, we are walking down the sunny streets to Crissie’s place.
“Where does she want to talk about, Joshua? Did she tell you?” mom asks, curiously. I shake my head. “I dunno. Maybe a little bit of girl talk?” I ask. Mom starts to laugh. “Oh silly boy, she has her own mother. If she needs to, she’ll always go to her. No, it must be something else..” Mom’s frowning her forehead, trying to figure it out. I chuckle, although I shouldn’t. I just can’t help myself, this situation is starting to get funny.
“What?” mom asks, a bit irritated.
“Nothing, mom. It’s cute how you frown your forehead, that’s all.” I say, while I give her a side hug. I’m a very big fella, and my mom is small. Her head is resting against my ribs. “You’re grown way too big, my son. Look at me! It’s almost ridiculous.” She’s pointing out at our height differences.
“It will never be, mom. You’re my mother. It’s fine.”
Mom smiles, and cuddles me back. I really love my mom.
“Here it is.” I sigh. “Let’s go in.” I take mom’s hand and knock on the door.
Debby opens the door. “Hi, Joshua! Good to see you again. “ She then focuses on my mother. “And Bonnie, of course. We haven’t met in person, but you’ve always been our Beta. How could I not recognize you. Come in!”
Sometimes, I forget. About the Beta-thing, I’m so used to it. People always recognize us, wherever we go. Especially my mom, I mean: how couldn’t they? She’s lovely.
We walk in and I say to Debby: “I’m so sorry, Debby. I know you would love to talk to my mom. But we need to talk to Crissie. Is that OK?”
Debby waits for a moment but then nods her head. “Of course! I’ll make us something to eat. It’s almost lunchtime. I’ll see you in a bit!” And before I can answer, Debby’s already on her way to the kitchen.
I chuckle. “You would love her, mom. She’s also always busy in the kitchen, trying to make food for everybody. But come on, let’s head to Crissie’s room.”
Mom goes first and knocks on Crissie’s door. “Come in!” I hear her voice.
“Bonnie? What are you doing here?” She replies, surprised.
“Joshua told me you wanted to talk with me.” Mom says, a bit overwhelmed.
“Why should I? I mean, I love talking to you, Bonnie. But no, I don’t need to talk to you specifically.” Crissie says. She then looks at me. “Joshua?”
I clear my throat while I face two surprised faces. “Well, I think the two of you should talk.” I wait a moment before I continue: “Mom, I think you have answers for Crissie.”
Mom looks confused. “Why? About what?”
“About the mage you found.”
