Nervous for my mate

“Hey Joshua.”

I walked over to Joshua’s place to talk to him. I’ve missed our talks, the talks between friends.

“Hi Adam! Good to see you, I’ve been thinking about the plans and … “

“Joshua, I’m not here to talk about the situation. I need some advice.”

Joshua looks at me, and nods. I look around his room and again, I’m surprised by his neat behaviour. We’re opposites, he likes to clean and well.. I hate it. His room is almost a duplicate of mine, the only difference is that I have a bigger bathroom and walk in closet than Joshua. But we have the same big windows and size of the room. Joshua decorated his room nicely, with a wooden floor and dark blue walls. His king size bed is made nicely as well and he lighted some candles in the sitting area. If he didn't find Crissie, his mate, I was almost thinking he's gay. I chuckle while I take a seat, and I start looking at Joshua.

“I’m not sure where to start, but I’m scared and nervous…”

Joshua raises an eyebrow and asks: “...uhm? For what exactly?”

“Well, you know. Eve…”

Joshua smiles and says: “Don’t worry buddy, you’re the best guy Eve can ever get. I’m very glad the two of you are mates. You have my blessing.” and he slaps my shoulder.

“Well, that’s not what I mean. No offense, but I don’t care for your blessing..” I smile at Joshua. “...but you do know I’m not experienced with girls. I - uhh.. Well, didn’t even have a kiss before. And now we’re going to rescue her, I’m afraid of what my wolf is going to do. You’ve been there, meeting your mate. What can I expect?”

Joshua starts laughing out loud. “Oh my God, Adam! You haven’t kissed yet? I’m sure Eve has, she got lots of attention from boys, you know.”

I’m staring at Joshua, irritated. “Not funny, mate. I’m serious..”

But Joshua isn’t going to stop laughing for at least a few minutes. He’s almost wetting his pants because of the laughter. "Hahahah, so this big guy, our future Alpha, is going to meet his mate and he's worried about a kiss..? Whahaha..."

“It’s really not that special or funny, Joshua. But if I can’t get some advice of my best friend, fine. I’ll go.” And I stand up and rushes to the door, humiliated by the laughter of my friend. I slam the door as hard as I can, while I leave his room. “Idiot…” I mumble to myself.

I start walking to the gym, ready to throw out some punches. I’m surprised to see Crissie running on the treadmill. “Hi Crissie, what are you doing?”

Crissie looks up and takes one of her ear buds out. “Hi Adam … I’m sorry, I can’t talk much .... I’m doing an exercise … It’s tough, I should do this more often ... “ I can hear Crissie has troubles breathing normally, because of her work out.

“That’s fine, I’ll leave you alone then.”

I’m starting my warming up with 10 minutes jumping the skipping rope. It’s an easy way to get your muscles warm, and intense enough to let your heartbeat rise.

Crissie is done with her work out, and takes some sips of water from her bottle.
“I know I’m not a werewolf, so I should take more attention of my body. Yesterday I realized, I’m not able to protect the people I love, when I’m not in shape. So, I decided to start training every other day.” She looks at Adam and tilts her head a bit. “Why are you here, I can sense some frustration…”

“I don’t want to talk about it.”

Crissie rolls her eyes and says: “Oh my gosh, why have boys always troubles with talking about their feelings? But fine, don’t talk about it. Bottle everything up, you must feeling better after that.” She grabs her stuff and starts walking to the dressing rooms.

“Wait…” I hesitate, but I know she’s right. It would be nice to talk to somebody.

Crissie turns around and smiles. “I knew it…”

I sigh and look down to my hands. “In two days I’m going to see Eve. The problem is, I recently found out she’s my fated mate and I’m nervous as hell to meet her.. I don’t have experience with girls, you know..” I glance through my eyelashes at Crissie, waiting for her reaction. I’m on guard right now, considering my experience with Josh half an hour ago.

But she’s not laughing, she’s not even reacting. After ten seconds she shrugs and says: “So... ? You’re young, and so is she. Don’t worry, you will get time enough to get to know each other on that level.”

I’m surprised by her relaxed reaction and ask her: “What about you and Joshua?”

“What about it?”

“Well, you’re his mate. But you’re not a werewolf. How does it feels to you?”

Crissie hesitates but answers: “It’s true I don’t feel the mate bonding the same way Joshua does. But I can’t lie, I feel a connection too. It’s a strong feeling, and I feel comfortable when he’s around. But I’m cautious, I guess it takes more time for me to give myself entirely. You understand?”

I nod. “I do, thanks for your honesty, Crissie. I appreciate it. But I have to say: I’m not set at rest about meeting Eve. But thanks for trying.”

“Don’t worry, Adam. You’re not alone, you have your wolf besides you. Remember?”

Yeah. That’s the problem. I don’t trust him with his insane instincts...
