Missing

No, no no noooo! Not Eve! I run back, towards her room, and I already see the commotion in the hallway in front of her door. “LET ME THROUGH!” I yell, while pushing two nurses aside. Their faces were covered in shock. There it is, her bed. Her empty bed. No sign of Eve at all…
She’s gone. She really is gone! I look around the corner, furious. “TELL ME! What happened?” I ask around the room. Nobody is answering me, they’re all looking at their feets. Then a woman steps forward: “Luna’s son, we’re so sorry. But we don’t know. She was on continuous monitoring, the moment we heard the alarms we rushed to her room. To find out she’s gone.”

I look at her. I recognize her, but I don’t know who she is. She’s young, I guess only a few years older than me. She continues: “It’s better to calm down, Luna’s son. I’m not a werewolf, but I can feel your aura too - although I’m less effected, cause I’m a human. I think the werewolves around me are too terrified to answer all your questions, with that aura shining in their faces..”

I look in the window, and stare at my own reflection. Damn, that woman is right. It’s like I swallowed a lantern. I sigh, close my eyes and take some deep breaths. When I open my eyes again, I see the people around me are less stressed out. “Thank you.” the woman says.

“Ok, so nobody has seen anything? I want to see all the recordings of cameras around the building. I only want you,” and I point to the woman who’ve been talking to me for the last 3 minutes, “..in this room. Everyone else: leave! And DON’T touch anything!”

While the crowd is leaving the room, I mindlink Joshua:

*I’m so sorry, Joshua. But I need you here. It’s not nice saying it this way, but I have to. Eve’s missing..*

I wait a few minutes, but Joshua isn’t responding. Damnit! He probably blocks all the links, not only the less important ones. Crap, he still has some things to learn. Well, there’s no other way than forcing his mind to listen..

*JOSHUA! Don’t block mé. I need you in the medical centre, N O W!*

Within seconds, I receive his answer:

*You annoying little bastard. How the hell were you doing that?! I’ve a headache for hours now, what’s going on?*

I respond:

*It’s better if you’re seeing it yourself. I need you asap!*

*I can hear the stress in your voice, I’ll be there in minutes.*

I almost forgot she’s still in the room. I see the interested look on her face. I shyly smile at her while I run my fingers through my hair.. “I, uuhh.. I’m sorry. Normally I’m not this bossy. But she is a dear family friend of mine. She’s almost like a sister to me. When it comes to family, I react very emotionally.”

She smiles back at me. “Hmmm.. ‘a dear family friend’, right? That’s only it?” she asks me, a bit cheeky. I shake my head and laughs at her: ”No it’s not that..She’s truly only a friend..”

I can see she’s still doubting my answer, but I want some answers as well. I ask her: “Hey, I do recognize you, but I don’t know you. Who are you? And why do you know all those things about werewolves? In fact, why do you work here at all? Mom normally doesn’t allow strangers on our territory...”

“I’m Cristina, but everyone calls me Crissie. You’ve a lot of questions mister.. Where do I start, hmmmm…” I see the frown on her forehead. Crissie shrugs and goes on: “well.. there’s nothing secret about all this, soo. Do you want the short version?”

I’m listening to her, amused. “Please, the short version indeed.”

“Well, like I said, I’m Crissie. I’m nineteen years old and my parents adopted me when I was a kid. They found me in the woods, still a baby, only a few miles from your borders. My parents are werewolves, living in your pack. I grew up in this place, but don’t know much about my origins. I went to school with you, a short period of time. I guess you can’t miss my bright orange hair color, right? I’m now studying to be a nurse. I’m trying to get my college degree. I’m in my second year now. Normally I live in the city, but this is my internship - so, I live with my parent for this semester.”

I nod. I remember. “It’s not about your hair color, Crissie. You’re a beauty - I would never forget a gorgeous woman like you.” I wink at her, making her blush. It’s true. She is stunning. With her orange, curly hair and bright blue eyes, nobody would forget her. But it’s her smile, her cheeky attitude and the freckles on her cheeks that makes her this pretty.

I can feel Joshua is entering the building. I quickly turn around to wait for him at the hallway, trying to bring the news as soft as possible. But the moment I’m standing close at the door - he’s already there. Just one look is enough. Joshua’s face went blank when his eyes met Eve’s empty bed. I can see he’s close to collapsing. He then looks at me and asks with a raspy voice: “Where. Is. My. Sister?”
