Headaches

-Adam POV-

“Adam, Adam! Where are you? Come here, it’s Eve!”

I hear mom’s voice, yelling around the building. I run towards my door and pull, opening the door. “Mom! I’m here, what’s going on?” I yell. Meanwhile, I’m sprinting towards the sound her voice came from. Then, I see her head around the corner of the door from her office. “Please, she’s in their own wing. Go see her! It’s bad, it’s her head…” Mom says with a little panic in her voice.

She doesn’t need to say anything more, I’m already heading towards the Evans’ wing of this building. Without knocking, I open the door and run inside. I look into Joshua’s and Bonnie’s shocked faces, and ask: “Where is she? What’s going on?”

Bonnie answers: “In her bedroom, it’s her head. She’s having seizures, and I don’t know why. Please, can you heal her?”

I don’t know, to be honest. But I would give my life for her. It’s only been a few days since I know she’s my mate. But she has already become my everything. I open her bedroom door and I stare at her tiny body, what seems to vanish in her king-sized bed. Why on earth needs a tiny girl like that a king-sized bed? I shake my head while I walk towards her.

“Eve, are you awake? I’m here, little one. Please, talk to me..” I touch her cheek with my hand, she’s feeling clammy. Little sparks are flying everywhere, because of my touch, and I sigh out loud; it catches me everytime. She opens her eyes and I stare in the most beautiful brown eyes I’ve ever seen. Were they always this intense?, I ask myself.

“Adam? Thank God, you’re here. Why took it so long? I’ve been calling you for hours…” she mumbles. It doesn’t look like she’s completely awake. “I’m here now, darling. Don’t worry.” I react to her. I lay down next to her tiny body, there’s plenty of room in this big bed, and hold her in my arms. I feel how she’s reacting to my presence, and warm tingles are spreading through my veins. We’re made for each other, literally. And that’s the most awesome feeling in the world!

“Eve? What’s going on? Your mom told me it’s your head. Do you have headaches again, or..?” I try to communicate with her, I want to know what’s happening. But all Eve does, is crawling against my body and smile a little. I guess that’s all she needs right now, but I’m worried. She told me this morning that she’s having bad headaches since she woke up from that coma. When they kept her in the Shadow Pack, they’ve tried to find the source of her headaches, but nobody found anything. Scans, tests, blood samples and all the other stuff didn’t result in anything. I feel the anger growing in my body, those damned Brown-brothers! Mom decided to give the boys a warning, but the parents are forced to accept help with parenting. Professionals are helping them with the re-education, trying to get the boys back on track. I know this is the best choice mom could make, they’re children, but it doesn’t mean I’m not mad anymore. I sigh, this sucks.

We’re laying like this for an hour or so, when Bonnie enters the room. “Adam? How is she? Do you want something to drink?” she whispers, trying not to wake Eve.

“She’s calm, you said she had seizures before, right? She had none since I’m laying here. I guess that’s a good sign, isn’t it?”

Bonnie nods. “I think so. Shall I bring something to drink?”

“I would appreciate that, bring some soda for her as well. I’m going to wake her up in a few minutes. I’ve mindlinked Dr. Rose, and she told me it’s better for her to not to sleep to long in a row. Dr. Rose will be here any minute to check on her. Can you bring her over here, when she arrives?” I answer Bonnie.

“I will, thanks Adam! I had no idea what I should’ve done without you.”

“It’s OK, Bonnie. You’re family. I will do anything for my beloved ones.”

Bonnie leaves the room and I look back at the sleeping beauty against my body. Oh God, she’s gorgeous. Her long brown hair is falling over her face, and I carefully sweep the hair locks behind her ear. Her long eyelashes are touching her cheeks. They curl up a bit on the edges. Her skin looks flawless and makes me wanna kiss every inch of it. I sigh, I hate waking people, especially my sleeping beauty. “Eve? You need to wake up, sunshine. You should drink something..” I whisper in her ear.

She immediately reacts to my voice and opens one eye. “I don’t want to, I’m tired and I want to sleep.”

“I know, sunshine. But it’s better for you. Besides, Dr. Rose can walk in any minute. She wants to check on you.” I say.

Eve is protesting with cute, little noises coming out of her mouth. I chuckle, “If those noises are supposed to change my mind, well, than you’re doing a bad job..”

Surprisingly, a little laugh leaves her body. “That’s my girl..” I say to her, “... now, try to sit up so you can drink something.” On that exact moment, Bonnie and Dr. Rose are entering the room. “Look who’s up!” says Dr. Rose.

“I brought you both something to drink. I’ll leave it here, on the nightstand.” Bonnie says.

Eve’s sitting in bed right now and reaches to her drink. “Ooeee, soda. I like…” She says, and I smile. I thought she would appreciate it. I know it’s not the first drink you would recommend to a sick person, but right now, I don’t care.

“Eve, tell me what’s going on. I can tell you don’t have a fever, although you’re feeling clammy. Your mother told me it was something with your head?” Dr. Rose asks Eve.

“Yes, I have those real pain in the ass headaches since I woke up from my coma. I know the Brown brothers attacked me a few weeks ago, and I remember one was kicking my head. So, I thought my pains are connected to it. But they couldn’t find anything in the hospital of the Shadow Pack. So, it’s a bit of a mystery. It’s getting worse too.”

Dr. Rose nods, and does some basic tests. After fifteen minutes, she says: “I’ve heard of the Shadow Pack, they’re wealthy and big. I guess they’ve run every possible test available, but I want to do them myself too. They’ve good doctors. But I’m convinced no pack has the best health care as we do..” She smiles and looks at Eve. “What do you say, Eve?”

I see a frown on Eve’s face, I haven’t said anything the past 20 minutes, but I feel I have to, now: “Eve? I know it’s frustrating for you, and I will try to heal you when you’re ready. But I think it’s for the better if we know where those headaches come from. Don’t you think?”

She looks at me and I see tears in her eyes: “But I’m scared, Adam. Talon tried every test available in that hospital, but with no results. And now I’ve given up hope, to be honest. I don’t want to know anymore.”

I kiss her on the forehead and say: “I’ll be with you, with every test and scan. Is that making you feel better?”

She nods. “Alright, only if you’ll be there.”

I look over at Dr. Rose and say: “Plan the first tests tomorrow morning. I’ll bring her to the hospital, myself. Is that OK?”

Dr. Rose nods, “Off course, let her rest tonight, please. She’s going to need some energy for those examinations tomorrow.”
