Chapter 77
It was pitch black outside, and the only light I could see came from a person holding a flashlight. I could feel the weight of my eyelid, and I was already cold, so I couldn't speak or ask for help. I had no idea who he was, but hearing his voice filled me with hope and joy. I can't see his face, but I'm self-assured I identified him.
"El," he said as he searched every corner of my living room with the flashlight he was holding.
I wasn't expecting him to show up. I had no idea he was the one approaching these circumstances, and despite my state, I couldn't help but smile. I'm not sure what time it is now, but I'm very sure it's already night because there's no light coming in through the door, and he only comes here at night.
I heard his slow footstep so I tried to sit up, but my body couldn't handle it. I saw him enter my room while calling my name, but I could not respond to him. I seemed to have lost my voice and no longer had the strength to make a noise to let him know I was just in the living area. He can't see that I'm here because I'm between the sofa and the mini table.
Soon he came out of my room and he was still calling and looking for me. He went straight to the kitchen and his steps were quick. I like seeing him being worried about me and it makes me feel fluttered despite my situation. It became clear to me who I liked, who I missed, and who was calming down inside of me. I miss him so much that I felt compelled to rush up to him and give him a big hug. I miss his fragrance, warmth, voice, and, most of all, his rare laughter. I adore it when I can make him laugh or grin. His smile is the most expensive thing in the world, and every time I make him laugh, I feel like the wealthiest human being on earth.
When he got out of the kitchen, I heard a ring and I was sure it was coming from my phone. I have a feeling the ring is near me, and I just realized I left my purse and paper bag on the mini table last night.
I heard Jas step approaching the position of my phone and I had no idea what he would do when he saw me in this situation. I had a fever and he couldn't touch me because his life would be in danger if it happened. I hope he doesn't do the thing that will make him suffer, I hope he just asks for help instead of forcing himself to help me. I'm not going to die, I'm just weak.
As he approaches my position, nervousness envelops me. I won"t be able to stop him so I wish he didn"t worry too much. I wish I could say something to stop him from helping me when he was standing right in front of me. My body shifted to face the ceiling. I wanted him to initially see my smile so he wouldn't be concerned about me. I had to force myself to adjust my position.
I'm not sure, but I think he noticed my foot because he shouted as my name was mentioned. I also heard his footsteps approaching me, and when he got close enough, he pointed the flashlight he was holding at my face, prompting me to close my eyes.
"El? W-what happened to you? " he asked. He removed the focus of the flashlight on my face so I was able to open my eyes. As I look at his expression, I can see how worried he is. His eyes are wide open as his reddish lips were parted.
In the middle of my worst situation, something entered my mind that I had only just thought of. It appears that I am inebriated; I'm not sure why the thought occurred to me to ask how I would feel if his lips touched mine. I smiled as I thought about that thing but I could still feel my puffy eyes.
"Are you drunk?" he asked as he sit in front of me. I don"t know why he doesn"t turn on the light, but there was only one reason that entered my mind. He was panicking so he no longer remembered that the living room was lit. He was about to touch my forehead, but I avoided it and he seemed to easily understand why.
The concern on his face still lingered so I smiled again. "Stop smiling. We both know you"re not fine," he stated and he gulped before he continue. "I-I can"t help you. But I will ask for help from others," he stated as he stood up. He didn"t hear a response from me and I had no idea where he was going. I heard him talking on the phone when he was a little farther away from my position and I felt the pain in my eyes again when he turned on the light in the living area.
Finally, he thought of turning on the switch in the living area," I said through my mind. I closed my eyes and did not open them because I felt tired, cold, and dizzy.
The next morning, I woke up in my room. I don"t know how I got here because as I remembered, I was enveloped in drowsiness in the living area. I have no idea what happened next so I couldn't help but wonder.
I was about to sit on my bed, but I turned to the side of the bed. I saw Jas sitting on the floor with his head resting on the side of my bed. He slept soundly and I couldn't help but feel guilty about his condition now.
I have no idea how and where he asked for help, but I"m so glad that he is the one who saved me from those worst nights of mine. I don"t know what would have happened to me or if I would still be alive today if he hadn"t come.
I stroked his hair while not losing the smile on my lips. I'm feeling better now; I'm no longer dizzy, but I still have a fever, so I can't touch his face because of my high body temperature.
This is the start of something new. I have no idea what will happen next, but I can promise you one thing: I will do everything in my power to make my life as enjoyable as possible with him, despite the fact that I am not sure we share the same feelings."I like you," I whispered.
