Chapter 190 Remarriage Is Possible

Skylar, hearing the servant's report, scanned the room before making a beeline for the entrance, Larry in tow. In no time, a stir rippled through the guests as Christopher, Daniel, Skylar, Larry, and Kimberly entered the banquet hall.

Christopher, clad in a black coat, exuded an air of nobility and stern authority, each step measured and purposeful. Trailing closely behind him, Daniel mirrored the loyalty he'd shown on their visit to ElevateJoy, signaling their deep familiarity.

Adding to the evening's intrigue was Skylar's earlier proclamation. The observant guests pieced together the puzzle swiftly—Christopher was the enigmatic boss of the RF Group.

The revelation left an indelible mark: the very Christopher once scorned by the Harris family was now honored like royalty.

The air buzzed with tension, the crowd too wary to approach. Skylar, Larry, and Kimberly displayed a spectrum of emotions. Kimberly's delight was barely concealed, Skylar's excitement palpable, while Larry’s embarrassment clung to him like a shadow, his silence a shield against the onlooking crowd.

A whisper snaked its way through: "Mr. Valence must be here for your Kimberly, right? Despite the rejection, he’s clearly not moved on from her."

Skylar's joyous response was immediate. "Let’s not dwell on the past. It was my haste that almost cost Kimberly such a good match."

"Enough!" Larry, frustrated and unwilling to further his humiliation, interjected sharply, his gaze meeting Christopher's with an unspoken plea. "Mr. Valence, we never imagined RF Group was your doing. Your accomplishments are outstanding. We hope you might show some leniency towards the Harris Group in the future."

His words, a blend of admiration and trepidation, revealed the Harris Group's struggle under the relentless pressure from RF Group.

Christopher, unperturbed, merely raised an eyebrow. Daniel, however, seized the moment. "Mr. Harris, speaking of leniency is rich. When Ms. Harris relentlessly pursued us, she showed none."

Larry's forced smile faltered as he glanced at Kimberly and Skylar. "Kimberly acted rashly. Rest assured, the topic of marriage will never be revisited."

Elissa, standing some distance away, whispered to me derisively, "The Harris family certainly knows how to play their cards. Kimberly tormented you the most, and instead of an apology, they’re now groveling for favor."

I shrugged. "A apologie means nothing to me."

But Christopher's continuous pressure on the Harris Group had intercepted a crucial project, spelling potential disaster for them. Despite their survival, the Harris Group was destined to incur substantial losses.

Larry’s desperate plea was a transparent bid for mercy, hoping to quell Christopher’s wrath. But Skylar, undeterred, glared at him. "Larry, what nonsense! Why shouldn't marriage be a topic?"

"Shut up!" For once, even Larry’s usual placidity cracked under the strain.

Skylar pressed on, oblivious. "What have I said wrong?" She ushered Kimberly forward, positioning her before Christopher with a practiced smile. "Christopher, breaking off the engagement wasn't Kimberly's fault."

She continued, her voice earnest. "My husband and I thought it best to end things, given your circumstances at the time. We assumed marriage was the last thing on your mind. But Kimberly has always cared for you. She wanted to find you numerous times, but we held her back, fearing it would burden you!"

"Mrs. Harris." Christopher furrowed his brows slightly, his voice a cool eddy of indifference. "There's no need to explain the broken engagement to me."

Because this was all part of Christopher's plan.

Skylar, either genuinely oblivious or feigning innocence, insisted, "Of course, we need to clarify. When you heard it was Kimberly coming to pick you up today, you specifically came over with Mr. Martinez. I get it."

Daniel's patience finally snapped. "Your confidence is commendable, Mrs. Harris, but let me clarify. Mr. Valence's presence today has nothing to do with Ms. Harris."

"How could it have nothing to do with Kimberly? If Mr. Valence came here and it wasn't for Kimberly, then..." Skylar's voice trailed off as a sudden realization dawned, and her gaze shifted towards me.

Christopher lowered his eyes and adjusted his cuffs with deliberate precision, his voice an icy dagger. "To be honest, Mrs. Harris, I'm here today to pursue my ex-wife."

Though spoken with calm clarity, Christopher's words reverberated like a public censure, striking Skylar and Kimberly with undeniable force.

Kimberly's tears burst out, as if she had suffered a great humiliation. Her anger could only be directed at Skylar, grabbing her arm. "Mom, why did you presume so much and humiliate me?"

"When I said it earlier, you didn't object..." Skylar was halfway through her sentence when Kimberly, overwhelmed with shame and anger, fled the scene in tears.

Skylar had no choice but to chase after and console her.

Despite hosting the event, the Harris family now found themselves submerged in disgrace.

Larry stood, feeling the sting of this public mortification, but relief came as Claire entered with Bella, having likely been briefed by the butler. Eschewing pretense, Claire approached Christopher, beckoning me over before she spoke earnestly. "Hope, the Harris family did wrong in bullying you. The company's current plight is a result of our own actions."

I felt a sudden pang of sadness. "Claire."

Claire wasn’t involved in the misdeeds of Kimberly and Skylar, residing far away in Maple Valley. It shouldn’t fall upon her to make amends.

"Hope, let me finish." Claire squeezed my hand reassuringly, then turned her attention to Christopher, her voice gentle but firm. "Mr. Valence, Hope is an exceptional woman. Though you hold a high position now, many remarkable men admire her. Winning her back might be more challenging than you anticipate."

Christopher, previously unyielding with Kimberly and Skylar, now displayed a rare humility before Claire. "You are right."

His blue eyes locked onto mine with a profound intensity. "This time, I won't let her down."

I avoided acknowledging his promise.

Claire, smiling softly, said no more and began introducing Bella to everyone around, quickly becoming the center of attention.

Though I had achieved my main objective for attending the event, Bella had just arrived, making it inappropriate to leave. Seeking a brief respite, I retreated to a quiet corner, yet Christopher persistently shadowed me.

Frustration boiling over, I whirled around to meet his gaze head-on. "Christopher Valence, we are already divorced."

A slight, confident smile tugged at Christopher's lips. "I know what you're about to say. Even if we're divorced, we can remarry. The registry office isn't going anywhere."
