Chapter 258: Just Don't Kill Him

In a flash, the tension was thick.

Anyone paying attention could see Austin was either super pissed or downright furious.

But everyone here was from the Hammer family. They all knew this pair of father and son had been at each other's throats for ages.

The young didn't respect the old, and the old didn't care for the young. It was just how they rolled.

Grace always said it was their way of keeping balance.

As the only son of the Hammer family in his generation, Austin couldn't blame Jerry for not taking him seriously if his life was a mess.

Grace loved seeing Jerry put Austin in his place.

Just when everyone thought Austin would blow his top, he walked over, slapped Jerry on the shoulder, and grinned, "Alright, clean up this mess for your brother."

"Brother?" Jerry sneered, his eyes cold as he looked at Molly. "Mom, when did you give me a brother?"

Molly was a traditional woman, gentle and kind. She knew Jerry was standing up for her but didn't want more drama, so she said, "Jerry, let it go."

Molly had long given up on Austin.

But she knew marrying into the Hammer family wasn't just about old feelings; it was about alliances.

She stayed with the Hammers because her own family had fallen on hard times and needed their support. Plus, she couldn't leave her kids.

The only time she had really fought with Austin was when the lab exploded. When Carlos had just joined the Hammer Group, Jerry had an accident.

With Jerry back, she went back to her old self and didn't want to say another word to Austin.

Jerry knew his mom well, smiled, and looked at Austin again. "Mom asked me to let it go, but you know I can't just ignore things."

Both of them were standing.

But in terms of presence, Jerry clearly overshadowed Austin by a mile.

The two-year grind had made Jerry sharper and more decisive.

Jerry glanced upstairs towards the study and said calmly, "If you want me to clean up the mess, that bastard needs to get lost."

Jerry wasn't about to do someone else's dirty work for free.

Austin's eyes flickered. "Jerry, no matter what, he's still family."

Jerry's gaze turned icy as he tossed a document to Austin. "Take a look at this first."

"What is this?" Austin picked it up, and his face went pale.

Looking serious, he asked, "How did you find out..."

Jerry, tired of standing, lazily sat down, still exuding sharpness. "How I found out doesn't matter. What's important is, what do you think will happen when this goes to the cops?"

The documents were filled with evidence from the explosion two years ago, all pointing directly at Carlos. Attempted murder charges would be a big deal.

Molly wanted to see. "Austin, let me look."

Jerry advised, "Mom! It's nothing important; you don't need to see."

Austin gritted his teeth, looked at Jerry, and became more accommodating. "Alright, I'll do as you say. Before, I let him take over the Hammer Group because I didn't know you were still alive. Now that you're back, it's only right to hand it over to you. Irrelevant people should get lost!"

After all, quitting was better than ending up in jail. Otherwise, it might lead to Austin's downfall.

Austin's reaction indirectly showed he had long known about the explosion two years ago.

A hint of disappointment flashed in Jerry's eyes, but he wasn't surprised. He praised, "Indeed, Father, you always know what's important."

At the RF Group in Jacquar, Christopher had just wrapped up an emergency meeting and was heading out of the conference room when Donald hurried to catch up. "Carlos Hammer just called to confirm our collaboration with Apex Technologies."

"Okay," Christopher nodded nonchalantly, striding towards his office.

It was just another round of internal drama within the Hammer family. This time, it was all about whether Jerry could outmaneuver Carlos.

Donald was puzzled. "Why are we teaming up with Apex Technologies right now?"

Sure, the RF Group needed Apex's patented tech, but the timing seemed off. Plus, Hope was with Jerry. Why was Christopher helping Jerry's rival?

Christopher loosened his tie, sat down, and looked at Donald. "Do you think if I don't cooperate with him, he won't be able to beat them?"

Carlos was ambitious but always overreached, using shady tactics. Sooner or later, Jerry would own the Hammer Group again.

Donald still didn't get it. "But with our help, Jerry's path will be smoother. Why help him?"

"I'm not helping him," Christopher said, rubbing his slightly aching stomach and gazing out at the neon lights. "I'm just repaying a debt."

He still owed Hope. Jerry's taking over the Hammer Group would make things easier for Hope.

Christopher smiled. "Plus, getting Apex's tech ASAP is great for our projects."

Meanwhile, Steven was waiting in the car. When Jerry walked out of the family manor, Steven signaled his men to stand down and got out of the car himself.

Jerry was almost certain of his success this time, but he didn't want to risk even a one-in-a-thousand chance of failure. He had promised Hope nothing would go wrong, so he was prepared, accompanied by his bodyguards.

Steven had been outside with his men, ready for any surprises. Opening the car door for Jerry, Steven only asked once they were driving away. "Jerry, everything okay?"

Jerry smiled. "Of course."

Steven sighed in relief. "Honestly, we should just hand the evidence to the police."

"Sending him to jail would be too easy," Jerry's eyes turned cold, a mocking smile on his lips. "As long as he's out there, we call the shots."

"True!" Steven perked up, a cold smile forming. "Jerry, leave it to me. I can make him wish he were dead."

"Alright," Jerry agreed, watching him through the rearview mirror. "Just don't kill him."

Hope was kind-hearted, and Jerry preferred not to take lives unless necessary.

Steven nodded. "Got it. No point in killing him."

"Okay," Jerry responded casually, glancing at the time. "Hurry up."

It was almost eight o'clock. If he didn't get home soon, Hope would start worrying.

Just as Jerry finished speaking, a message popped up on his phone, and a light smile of relief appeared on his lips.

Hope: [Jerry, I'm almost home, how about you?]

As I waited at the nearest intersection to home, I sent the message to Jerry. When the light turned green, I stepped on the gas and slowly drove into the underground parking lot of our residential area.

As soon as I got out of the car, a young but slightly greasy-looking man stopped me. "Are you Mrs. Valence? I'm Micah."
