Chapter 299 Falling into the Trap

Skylar dragged Kimberly to the spot Sawyer had texted.

The place was an old, lively neighborhood. If Steven sent his goons, they'd stick out like a sore thumb.

As soon as they stepped out of the car, Kimberly wrinkled her nose. "The guy lives here?!"

Rich folks wouldn't even blink at this place, especially someone like Kimberly, who grew up spoiled at the Harris Manor.

Skylar was feeling a bit down, but Kimberly's words snapped her back. "It's necessary, okay? It's for your safety. Jerry's hunting him down, and this place is low-key."

"Whatever." Kimberly shrugged and followed her inside.

Sawyer had prepped his guys, and after checking them out, they let them in.

The house was old and smelled musty from being empty for so long. Kimberly covered her nose and saw a middle-aged guy jump up from the couch, eyes wide.

"Skylar! Is this Kimberly?"

Skylar's eyes teared up. She wiped them and nodded at Sawyer. "Yeah, this is Kimberly."

Skylar hesitated, then started, "Kimberly, this is the guy I told you about. He’s—"

"Mom!" Kimberly cut her off, annoyed. "Just get to the point. No need for a life story."

She didn't care about these people. She just wanted to get the job done and get paid.

Sawyer's face went stiff for a second, then he forced a smile. "Yeah, yeah, Kimberly's right. Let's skip the intros."

"Call me Ms. Harris," Kimberly snapped.

Skylar was about to say something, but Sawyer quickly changed the topic. "Mrs. Harris, you're right; let's get to it."

Skylar gave up the original idea and said, "I'm here for the antidote. Hope called and agreed to sign the inheritance waiver."

Sawyer looked shocked. "That fast?"

Most people wouldn't give up a fortune so easily.

Skylar nodded. "Yeah, I didn't think she'd agree so quickly. You have the antidote, right?"

"I did, but now..." Sawyer hadn't expected Hope to give up the inheritance so easily, making the antidote-for-fortune swap smooth.

If he'd known, he wouldn't have handed the antidote to Cecil. With the Harris fortune, he wouldn't need to be under Cecil's thumb.

Skylar knew about his deal with Cecil. Her face turned serious. "Did Cecil take it?"

Sawyer nodded. "Yeah."

Seeing the family fortune slip away because of Sawyer, Kimberly couldn't hold back. "You not only failed to take out Hope, but now you've handed the antidote to Cecil! So dumb."

Skylar suddenly swung her hand and slapped Kimberly. "Watch your mouth!"

For the first time, she regretted spoiling Kimberly so much. But she couldn't bring herself to hit her hard.

Kimberly was stunned. "What the hell? You're hitting me for him? Who is he, your lover or something?"

Skylar shouted, "Shut up!"

"I won't! I'm telling Dad!" Kimberly, eyes blazing, turned to storm out.

Compared to Hope inheriting the Harris family, Larry would still prefer to hand it over to her. She didn't need Skylar.

But as soon as she turned, someone knocked her out from behind.

Skylar caught her limp body just in time, laid her on the sofa, and sighed, looking at Sawyer. "Sawyer, don't take Kimberly's words to heart. I've spoiled her since she was little, that's why..."

Sawyer held her hand. "It's no biggie. When I had my accident and left so suddenly, you took care of her and brought her to the Harris family, personally looking after her. I should be grateful for how well you've treated her."

Skylar sighed, "But it was because of me that you had the accident."

For all these years, Skylar's love for Kimberly was partly because she was Sawyer's daughter and partly out of guilt and self-reproach.

Sawyer smiled indifferently. "Let's not dwell on that. The important thing now is what to do about Hope."

"Is there only one antidote?"

"Yeah." Sawyer confirmed, narrowing his sharp eyes. "How about I find a way to get it back from Cecil?"

As long as he could take over the Harris family, it wouldn't matter if he fell out with Cecil.

"No!" Skylar was very wary of Cecil. Unless absolutely necessary, she didn't want to antagonize him.

She was silent for a moment, then suddenly smiled. "I remember you said that the initial symptoms of this poison can't even be detected by medical instruments."

She continued, "So, even if I use a fake antidote to get the agreement, Hope won't notice right away?"

Sawyer raised an eyebrow. "That's right."

Without symptoms, it would be impossible to immediately determine if the poison had been neutralized.

Skylar decisively stood up. "Then I have a plan."

She looked at the unconscious Kimberly. "Take care of Kimberly. Just let her leave when she wakes up."

Sawyer asked, "Should I arrange for someone to go with you to the hospital?"

"No need." Skylar shook her head. "That would easily expose your whereabouts. Jerry is very sharp."

Sawyer was lost in thought and suddenly strode toward the door, only to hear chaotic sounds coming from outside the yard.

Skylar heard it too and instinctively looked at Sawyer, both panicked and angry. "Damn it, Hope. Sawyer, have I fallen into that bitch's trap?"

"Mrs. Harris." As the voice rose, Jerry walked in with Steven and several men, his sharp eyes darkening as he played with a lighter. "How dare you curse my fiancée?"
