Chapter 317 We Can Go Get Hitched

Skylar saw Larry's bummed-out face and knew he hadn't scored any points.

She knew Jerry's vibe, and with Kimberly in his grip, things were gonna be rough.

Skylar was freaking out but had to keep it cool. She gently asked Larry, "Did your mom give you a hard time again?"

She handed him a glass of water. "She's getting old, man. Don't let it get to you."

Larry took the water and chugged it, but still felt the rage boiling inside.

Skylar kept going, "But seriously, as your mom, she shouldn't just ignore your feelings. And come on, the Harris family should be yours. It's one thing if you don't get it, but it's another if Hope does. She's tight with Madison. She might already know we screwed over Madison. Once she takes over, she'll probably kick us out to get back at us."

She added, "I can handle the rough times. Being with you is what matters. But you've been living the good life for so long. And what about your rep? What would people say? Your friends, your business partners...think about it."

Larry was pissed but tried to stay chill. "Hope said if she takes over the Harris family, my life wouldn't change at all."

If that was the deal, he could live with it.

After all, if Claire was dead set on giving the Harris family to Hope, what could he do?

Hearing this, a flash of anger crossed Skylar's eyes. What did it mean his life wouldn't change? What about her?

Larry just met Hope once and already ditched her and Kimberly?

The more Skylar thought about it, the tighter she clenched her fists. She said softly, "Do you really believe her? Even if she's nice and all, what about Madison? Have you thought about what she's like? Would she just let you off the hook?"

Skylar pushed, "Larry, get real. You've never treated her like your daughter. Who do you think she'd pick: you or her mom who's always been there for her? Do you really think she'd screw over Madison just to make you happy? This is your shot to lock down the Harris family. Are you really gonna throw it all away and let someone else control your future?"

"No." Larry slammed down his water glass, decision made. "The Harris family will be mine."

He thought Skylar was right. Why risk it when he could secure everything himself?

"That's right; I'm worried about you too." Skylar sighed, looking helpless, "If Hope won't listen to reason, then we'll have to use other methods."

Relying on Larry was a no-go. Skylar wasn't about to just sit around.

Larry just wasn't up to the task. If Claire and Hope were their only problems, they might have had a shot.

But with Jerry guarding Hope like a hawk, even ten Larrys wouldn't be enough.

Larry glanced downstairs. "By the way, Kimberly hasn't been home for days. Where's she at now?"

Skylar's eyes flickered. "She said she went abroad with friends, probably having too much fun."

Larry said, "Make sure nothing happens to her."

"Don't worry. She called me yesterday. She's fine."

Larry didn't ask more and headed to the Harris Group.

Skylar breathed a sigh of relief after he left and immediately hit up Sawyer, asking if he had any ideas.

Sawyer was also stressed.

He still couldn't figure out why Cecil would blow his cover.

Jerry was a tough nut to crack, and they had a better shot while staying hidden.

Now, Kimberly was still in Jerry's hands, and Claire's poison was cured.

It looked like the Harris family's assets were all going to Hope.

They had no leverage left.

Jerry was now super cautious, making it hard to target Claire and Hope.

"Why aren't you saying anything?" Skylar panicked. "You can't abandon Kimberly. She's your daughter, and you know how Jerry operates!"

Having raised Kimberly for so many years, Skylar had regarded Kimberly as her own daughter.

Just thinking about Kimberly still being in Jerry's hands made her lose sleep.

"Don't worry," Sawyer said, "I'm working on a plan. There's only one way left now." After a long pause, Sawyer spoke again, "But it's really risky."

Skylar's face hardened with determination. "I'm not afraid of risks."

She was more scared of seeing all her hard work go down the drain than she was of taking risks.

Years ago, Skylar had gambled everything to snatch it all from Madison, bit by bit. No way was she letting Madison's daughter take it all back.

In the days that followed, Jerry was swamped, working from dawn till dusk.

I often forced myself to stay awake, waiting for him on the living room couch, but the early pregnancy drowsiness would always win, and I'd doze off.

When I woke up, I'd find myself in bed, but the other side was always empty.

Austin was a pain in the neck for The Hammer Group, constantly stirring up trouble among the shareholders and giving Jerry a headache.

Meanwhile, Jerry had to juggle the Harris family drama too.

I offered to help, but he insisted on handling it solo.

His excuse was that I was pregnant and shouldn't stress. Even if I wanted to help, I had to wait until after the first trimester.

Meanwhile, Jerry's Apex Technologies was also hitting some bumps.

One morning, I actually saw Jerry off. He looked dead tired, with bloodshot eyes. "Babe, why don't you just crash at the office?" I suggested. "You've got that comfy lounge right there. You could use the travel time for a quick nap."

The company's lounge was right in his office, fully decked out with all the essentials.

Jerry laughed and flicked my forehead. "Most wives want their husbands home, and you're trying to kick me out?"

I said, "You're not my husband; we haven't even tied the knot."

"Oh?" Jerry's eyes lifted slightly. "Then I'll make some time today, and we can go get hitched?"

I pushed him out the door. "Stop it. I won't accept such a half-assed proposal."

Jerry walked out with my push, all the way to the elevator.

Suddenly, Jerry turned around and looked down at me.

I was wary. "What are you doing?"

Jerry didn't speak, just gestured.

I hesitated.

He still didn't speak, just kept looking at me.

Seeing the dark circles under his eyes, I couldn't help but move closer to him.

I got a bit closer and looked up at Jerry. "What are you..."

His large hand suddenly grabbed the back of my head, and the words I hadn't finished were swallowed by his kiss.

I thought he would just give me a peck.

But he bit my lips and took advantage of the moment.

Eventually, I couldn't withstand it; my breathing grew ragged, and I had to pinch his slender waist.

Only then did Jerry release me.

I stepped back, gasping for fresh air. I caught a glimpse of him wiping the moisture from his lips, and my ears burned with sudden heat.

Jerry stared at me, his voice gravelly. "Wait for me tonight."

But that night, I fell asleep waiting for him again, and he didn't come back.

Even in the morning, the spot next to me was cold.

Jerry hadn't come home.

I quickly grabbed my phone and called him, but no one answered.

After two more tries, it finally connected. "Hope."

It was Steven's voice.

I quickly asked, "Where's Jerry?"

Steven replied, "Jerry is in a meeting."

I couldn't relax. My gut told me something was off, but I couldn't put my finger on it, so I kept asking, "Did something happen?"

"Jerry will call you back soon, don't worry."

Upon hearing this, I didn't push it.

I knew how tight-lipped Steven was, and he only listened to Jerry, so there was no point in pressing him.

Anyway, Jerry wouldn't hide anything from me.

Just as I was about to put down my phone and get up to wash, it vibrated.

Thinking it was Jerry calling back, I quickly answered, but it was an unknown number.

Normally, I would assume it was a sales call and hang up.

This time, I answered.

"Hello?"

"Are you a relative of Larry? Larry had a car accident and needs surgery. You need to come over."

I frowned and immediately denied it, "I'm not."

The person on the other end was puzzled. "But your number was his last call."

I hadn't saved Larry's number and had no reason to contact him.

Why would he call me? I felt like something was off.

"But I'm really not." I pressed my lips together. "Check if there's a contact named Skylar. Call her; she's Larry's wife and the one who should sign the surgery consent form."
