Chapter 249: I Want You

Jerry's brown eyes locked onto mine with a meaningful glint. "Sophia suggested I buy them," he said. "She told me that if I want to pursue you seriously, I should always be prepared with feminine products."

My ears burned with embarrassment. "Who said anything about living with you? We’re just friends right now!"

Jerry's embrace tightened as he drew me closer, his lips brushing against mine in a brief, soft kiss that left his lips glistening. "Alright. Friends who can kiss, right?"

"Shut up!" I protested, my voice a mix of embarrassment and annoyance as I quickly wriggled free and stood up.

Jerry caught my wrist, looking up at me earnestly. "Then tell me, what exactly are we?"

I glowered at him. "I'm not telling you. Who pursues someone and expects the other person to take the initiative?"

He chuckled teasingly. "What about my birthday gift?"

Jerry's mood was slightly off. I had planned to find another opportunity to give him the gift, but now I didn't want to wait. "Wait a moment!"

I hurried upstairs to retrieve the gifts I had prepared, returning with a rectangular gift box and a paper bag. "Happy birthday!" I declared, handing them both over.

Jerry raised an eyebrow, intrigued. "Two gifts?"

I teased him. "You can choose just one if you want."

"I want both," he declared, his long arm swiftly collecting both items.

The paper bag sported a luxury brand logo, but Jerry chose to inspect the rectangular gift box first. Inside, he found a meticulously folded T-shirt with a bunny badge sewn onto the left chest—my handiwork.

His eyes lit up with delight. "Did you design this?"

I nodded lightly. "Yes. Do you like it?"

The T-shirt, designed before I worked on Madison’s dress, held personal significance for both Jerry and me. It was part of a couple's set, though I was too shy to mention it. The matching one still hung unworn in my closet.

Jerry’s focus shifted to the other gift, revealing a Patek Philippe watch that had caught my eye the previous night. Its strap perfectly matched Jerry’s exuberant and carefree personality. He slowly removed his old watch, extending his wrist to me. "Help me put it on?"

"Of course." I carefully took the watch from the box and fastened it to his wrist—it fit perfectly, no adjustments needed.

Before I could pull away, Jerry's arm wrapped around my waist, pulling me into his embrace. His voice was both calm and intense. "Hope, two gifts aren’t enough for me."

I laughed lightly, "Are you impossible to please? What else do you want?"

"I want you." Jerry's voice was deep and magnetic, each word resonating with intent. "I want you."

 My entire body tensed.

Caught off-guard by his proximity, I almost blurted out, 'Hold on, I'm on my period,'—a habit from my time with Elissa. But then Jerry’s cool lips brushed against my earlobe, his voice a persuasive murmur. "Hope, be my girlfriend. please."

My heart pounded erratically. Every word sent shivers down my spine, electrifying my senses. Jerry’s gaze was unwavering, filled with intent and passion. He was seriously awaiting my response.

It was as if time had frozen.

I quickly averted my gaze, afraid my beating heart would give away my excitement. Trying to maintain composure, I smiled softly. "Okay."

Before I could fully articulate my agreement, Jerry chuckled softly, his lips capturing mine in a tender yet fervent kiss.

His breath carried a refreshing blend of mint with a subtle hint of tobacco, an unexpectedly harmonious combination.

Yet, two years ago, I had never seen Jerry smoke, nor had I ever smelt smoke on him, implying that the past few years must have been particularly challenging for him.

Jerry's kiss was a paradox of gentleness and fervor, his passionate emotions filtering through to me. I almost lost my balance, steadying myself only with his firm hand on my waist.

Noticing my teetering, Jerry guided me back, never breaking the kiss as he led us to the couch. He sat, drawing me onto his lap, his large hands positioning me to straddle him. Then, his kiss deepened, a passionate symphony, and I felt my breath hitch.

"Jerry," I whispered, struggling for air.

He softly queried, "What's wrong?"

Jerry allowed me a moment to breathe before resuming with heightened intensity. One hand snaked under my dress, his calloused palm grazing my skin until it settled on my chest, a gentle squeeze that left me speechless.

His touch was electric even through the fabric. His eyes, a fiery red with restrained desire, made his voice a husky whisper. "Hope, your period has the worst timing."

My face flushed a deeper shade of crimson. "It comes at the same time every month."

Jerry’s expression grew intense, his voice a low murmur. "It's okay. I'll wait. Hope, waiting for over twenty years has made me an expert."

Running my fingers through his hair, I gently kissed his brow. "Dear, thank you."

He froze, eyes brimming with surprise and joy. "What did you call me?"

I smirked playfully. "I called you Jerry, didn’t you hear?"

He pinched my waist affectionately. "No. Say it again."

Jerry paused, awaiting my words, but just then, his phone rang. He glanced at the caller ID and answered, only for a young man's voice to resonate through.

"Jerry, where are you? We've all been here for ages. Did you go find your girlfriend?"

Jerry held me close as he replied, "Yes, we’re on our way. Start without me."

After hanging up, an amused expression settled on his face.

After hanging up, Jared was stunned. But when he glanced at Elissa, a lazy smile played on his lips. "Are you sure it was really Jerry who asked you and this kid to come first?"

Elissa's eyes flashed with irritation. "My friend asked."

The moment they stepped into the room, their argument had ignited like dry tinder. Elissa’s patience wore thin as Jared’s accusations flew.

Jared believed Elissa had resorted to any means to secure the store, even chasing them all the way here. No matter how earnestly she explained, his skepticism remained unyielding. He considered Jerry’s efforts over the past twenty years and felt a surge of protective anger.

"Your friend? That Hope? You better set her straight; Jerry's not one to be fooled. She ought to find someone else while she still can. Jerry already has a girlfriend."
