Chapter 314 Because You're Jerry

Jerry chuckled, but with Claire and Elissa in the next room, he cut the convo short.

I shrugged it off and grabbed the medicine bottle he'd left on the table. "I'll go give Claire the antidote."

He nodded. "Cool."

I got up and headed to Claire's room, noticing he was right behind me. "Let's go together," he said.

Elissa was playing cards with Claire.

When Jerry and I walked in, Claire was having a blast.

Right then, I felt like, no matter what, as long as Claire could live happy and healthy, it was all worth it.

I held up the small medicine bottle, feeling relieved. "Claire, Jerry brought you the antidote."

Elissa chimed in, "Is it really the antidote? What if Cecil messed with it?"

I hadn't even thought of that.

Jerry's a solid guy. If he gave me this antidote, it's gotta be legit.

I just needed to trust him, no questions asked.

Claire and I were on the same wavelength. She'd watched Jerry grow up, after all.

While I was away, Jerry had taken good care of her for me.

Hearing this, Claire patted Elissa's hand and joked, "Don't worry. Even if it's just to become my grandson-in-law, Jerry would triple-check the ingredients."

Jerry laughed, "You make it sound like I'm only good to you because of Hope."

"I didn't say that." Claire couldn't help but laugh. Before taking the antidote, she looked Jerry over. "Raise your arm and let me see. Are you hurt?"

Jerry patiently raised his arm and replied gently, "I'm fine; don't worry."

Claire's eyes fell on the bandage on his hand. "What's this then?"

Jerry raised an eyebrow slightly. "It's nothing serious, just a scratch. But Hope insisted on bandaging it like this to feel better."

Elissa got goosebumps hearing this.

Claire looked at me. "Is it really not serious?"

"Yeah, it's been disinfected and treated. It'll be fine in a few days." I nodded, opened the antidote bottle, and handed her a pill. "Don't worry; take the antidote."

"Alright, alright." Seeing my calm expression, Claire finally felt at ease. She took the antidote and swallowed it with the water Elissa handed her.

Before we could breathe a sigh of relief, Claire retched and spit out a mouthful of black blood.

We all freaked out. "Claire!"

Jerry quickly supported Claire, comforting me, "Don't worry; we're going to the hospital now."

"Okay." I prepared to help Jerry support Claire, but she refused, "I'm fine; don't worry."

"How can you be fine?" I insisted, "You're vomiting blood; you must go to the hospital."

"I really am fine." Claire patted my hand. "I feel much better now. It should mean the poison is being expelled."

Jerry and I exchanged a look, still thinking she should go to the hospital. I softly said, "But you still should get checked at the hospital so we can be at ease. Can you bear to let a pregnant woman worry?"

"Alright, let's go to the hospital." Claire finally stood up with our help.

Jerry drove us himself, making a call before we left.

When we arrived at the hospital, Grant was already waiting.

After getting Claire to the exam room, Declan showed up too.

I said to Declan, "Thanks for coming so late."

Declan waved it off. "No biggie. I became a doc to help people. This is just part of the gig."

Declan and Grant headed into the exam room together. Jerry helped me sit down. "You okay?"

I nodded. "Yeah, I'm good."

Jerry gently rubbed my back to comfort me. "That's a relief."

I knew Claire puking blood had him worried too.

He brought the antidote, and even with all the checks, he couldn't help but feel uneasy now.

I held his hand and looked into his eyes. "Jerry, Claire will be fine. The medicine you brought back is definitely okay."

Jerry seemed to let out a silent sigh of relief. "Claire vomited blood, and you still trust me?"

"Yes." I squeezed his hand and affirmed, "Because you're Jerry."

"Silly goose." Jerry ruffled my hair. "Thanks."

I felt a pang in my heart.

For a moment, I felt so lucky to have met such a good guy.

My eyes welled up with tears, and Elissa finally spoke up, "Alright, alright, you two. Get a room! Some of us are single here!"

Just then, the exam room door opened, and the three of us quickly approached.

I hurriedly asked, "Mr. Quill, how's my grandma?"

Grant replied, "She's doing great. All her vitals are perfect, and Mr. Griffin confirmed that Mrs. Harris is toxin-free."

Hearing this, Jerry beside me finally let out a sigh of relief. "Thanks, Mr. Quill."

Soon, Claire was moved to a VIP room.

Declan said that given Claire's age, this poisoning had taken a toll on her, and she needed further treatment to strengthen her body.

Claire looked much better and even started chatting with Declan.

But I felt like crying. Claire noticed and waved me over.

"Why are you crying more and more?" Claire held my hand. "If you don't want your baby to be wrinkly and ugly, you'd better stop crying."

I immediately stopped my tears.

Claire teased me, "You're gonna be a mom, but you're still like a kid."

I hugged Claire and pouted, "In your eyes, I'm just a kid, right?"

"Alright, alright." Claire patted my back. "I'm fine now. You all go home and rest."

As she spoke, Claire glanced behind me. "Where's Jerry?"

I replied, "He was called out by Steven. He'll be back soon."

"Then wait for him to come back and have him take you home to sleep," Claire suggested.

I was reluctant. "I want to stay here with you."

"Are you a doctor or a nurse? I don't need you here. There are nurses in the room at all times. You shouldn't stay in the hospital. Even if it's disinfected, there are still germs. You're gonna be a mom soon; you can't be willful anymore."

Claire gently pushed me away, just as Jerry walked in. "Take your wife and kid home to rest."

I felt a bit helpless but knew Claire was right. I wasn't alone anymore; I had to think about the baby.

After some thought, I didn't insist and just reminded Claire, "If anything happens, you must call me or Jerry immediately."
