Chapter 262: Keep Her by His Side

Sarah desperately hoped Cecil would come up with a solution, even if it was just to buy some time.

On the other end, Cecil's expression hardened as he coldly asked, "What's going on?"

He had a gut feeling that something was off.

It was rare for Sarah to be this flustered.

Sarah took a deep breath, locked the door, and tried to collect her thoughts to explain the situation clearly. "Madison is suspicious of my identity!"

"No," Sarah shook her head and said in a panic, "It's not just suspicion; she wants to redo the paternity test!"

Thinking of this, Sarah couldn't help but admire Cecil on the other end of the line.

After Madison acknowledged her, she had thought everything was foolproof. However, Cecil reminded her to always be on guard.

Even when moving into this villa, Cecil had advised Sarah to install listening devices in the study and Madison's bedroom just in case something happened and she couldn't respond in time.

Sarah had only installed the listening device this morning when the maid went out, and Madison went for a run and hadn't returned yet.

She just wanted to test the effectiveness of the listening device, which was unexpectedly eavesdropping on their conversation.

Wasn't this a blessing from God, giving her a chance to struggle for survival?

Cecil frowned, annoyed. "Why would she suddenly suspect your identity? Did you do something stupid to make her suspicious?"

Sarah denied, "Impossible!"

Sarah was confident that she hadn't made any mistakes. She thought for a moment and suddenly realized. "It's Hope! She came by and talked to Madison about something!"

Cecil's face darkened. "Has Madison taken your DNA yet?"

Sarah shook her head. "No. She probably fears that if I really am her daughter, redoing the paternity test would hurt my feelings. They plan to come to my room to collect hair when I'm not around and do it behind my back."

Cecil let out a small sigh of relief.

The hair used for Sarah's paternity test last year was brought back by Cecil from Fantasia Federation under the pretense of visiting Hope.

Cecil pondered for a moment, his voice extremely cold. "Then you better keep your eyes wide open and clean up all your hair."

Sarah objected, "You're oversimplifying it! Even if I clean up all the hair at home before I leave tomorrow, what about when I get to the show? It would be easy for Madison to get a couple of my hairs from the show crew. This method won't last more than a few days!"

In the entertainment industry, who wouldn't want to curry favor with Madison? It was just a phone call away.

Sarah couldn't possibly be picking up hair all the time; there would always be times when she couldn't keep up.

Cecil sneered, "A few days is enough."

"Really?"

Sarah calmed down a bit. She finally breathed a sigh of relief after getting a definite answer and changed the subject. "Is Madison's daughter Hope?"

Sarah hoped not. She couldn't believe all the good luck would fall on Hope.

Unexpectedly, Cecil confessed, "Yes. So, if you can't hold on for the next few days, Madison's daughter will be her."

"No way!" Sarah suddenly lost it, growling in frustration. She stormed into the bathroom, turned on the faucet, and splashed water on her face. Jealousy twisted her insides, and she couldn't help but say, "Can't you make her leave like before? Keep her away from Madison?"

Cecil wanted that even more than Sarah did.

Just like a couple of years ago, when Hope was peacefully studying and getting treatment in Fantasia Federation, with no one around more important than him.

Cecil didn't have to worry about anyone taking Hope away. Those were the good days.

But he knew Hope wouldn't go back.

Cecil exhaled and said, "No."

Sarah insisted, "You have a way; you definitely do."

She knew Cecil was ruthless. If he wanted, Hope could disappear!

Cecil was slightly taken aback. "What way do I have?"

"Make her..."

Sinister thoughts kept surfacing in Sarah's mind, but she also knew Cecil liked Hope.

After a long pause, she said, "Lock her up! Or find a way to tie her down."

Cecil's veins bulged in anger. "No way! I warn you, dismiss those thoughts. As long as she's in Maple Valley, you better ensure her safety. If anything like the last banquet happens again, whether it's your doing or not, I'll be the first to kill you."

Cecil's tone was icy, like a demon from hell.

Sarah shivered, genuinely afraid of Cecil, but for her own sake, she had to take a gamble. She stubbornly said, "Don't you want her to be your woman? If you keep her by your side, she'll be yours alone."

Cecil suddenly clenched his fists and interrupted harshly, "Shut up! I can make someone else Madison's daughter just as easily as I made you."

"I spoke out of turn!" Sarah took a deep breath. She hadn't expected Cecil to agree right away. However, with such matters, once a seed was planted, it might one day take root and sprout.

After all, Cecil was never a good person!

Sarah returned to the main topic. "Are you sure you can solve this in a few days?"

"If you don't trust me, figure it out yourself!"

Cecil's patience ran out, and he hung up. He tossed the phone onto his desk and walked to the floor-to-ceiling window, overlooking the night view of Jacquar.

Sarah's words unsettled him. If he did that, Hope would be his alone. But from then on, she would never trust him again and might even hate him. He couldn't rush it.

Cecil suppressed his emotions, returned to his desk, opened a drawer, and pulled out a photo from a diary.

The photo showed a little girl with her hair tied up, smiling brightly.

The edges were yellowed, but it had been laminated for preservation, showing how much the owner cherished it.

Cecil gently rubbed Hope's cheek with his thumb, murmuring, "You'd want me to take it slow too, right? I'm not afraid of anything except that one day you might hate me."

An assistant knocked and entered.

Cecil snapped back to reality, skillfully placing the photo back in its spot, and looked at the assistant. "Still not off work?"

"I'm about to leave, but I got some news. Thought I'd report it to you first."

Cecil asked, "What is it?"

"Ms. Royston and Jerry are together."

The diary fell to the floor.

The assistant rarely saw Cecil so out of sorts. After a long pause, Cecil finally came to his senses. "Got it."

He didn't have time to take it slow anymore.
