Chapter 336 Shoot at Me
After Cecil left the cabin, I took a look around but didn't find anything.
When I opened the door to step out, I was surprised to see someone standing guard outside.
Trying to keep my cool, I asked, "Are you with Sonny or Cecil?"
No one answered.
But if I even thought about moving forward, they'd stop me right away.
Meanwhile...
Jerry's face was blank, and he wasn't touching his utensils, even though Sonny kept piling more onto his plate.
Jerry's patience was wearing thin, and his worry for Hope wasn't helping.
But he had to play it cool to make Sonny drop his guard.
"Not hungry," Jerry said, standing up. He glanced towards the shore and then headed for the forest.
Sonny didn't stop him but followed.
They were blocked at the entrance.
Jerry had a gut feeling Hope was here.
Jerry said, "Don't think you can control me just because I'm on this island. If I don't see my wife, there's no way I'm joining the Warren family."
Sonny knew Cecil was super cautious, especially about Hope.
In all the years they'd worked together, Cecil mostly used his own people, and later, apart from Sawyer, he hardly used anyone else.
There was no real beef between them, just straightforward cooperation.
Sonny said, "There are wild animals in this forest, so we have people watching to keep newcomers from wandering in by mistake."
Jerry was quiet for a moment, then turned to leave. As he walked through the grass, he noticed something shiny.
He pretended not to see it and headed towards the shore.
Sonny followed him, saying, "Jerry, don't worry. Go rest in your room for a bit. I'll bring her to you later. I promise she'll be unharmed."
Jerry didn't respond and kept walking to the shore.
As he got on the boat, Sonny signaled his men to surround him.
Jerry stood by the boat, one hand in his pocket. His handsome face was blank, his eyes deep and intense.
Sonny's heart raced as he looked at him, his feelings obvious. "Jerry, you're really charming."
At that moment, Jerry only wanted to shut him up for good, and he did just that.
In a quick move, he grabbed the guard's gun and pointed it at Sonny's forehead.
The casual act he'd been putting on disappeared instantly, replaced by a cold, hard look.
Jerry asked, "Where is she?"
Sonny laughed. "Jerry, if you kill me, neither you nor that woman will leave this island alive."
The surrounding guards and henchmen all raised their guns, aiming at Jerry.
Everyone thought Jerry wouldn't shoot, even Sonny.
But then, a gunshot rang out.
The gunshot startled me, and I was terrified something had happened to Jerry.
But as soon as I stood up, Cecil pushed me back down. "Finish your meal."
I had no appetite. "Did Jerry come to the island?"
Cecil repeated, "Eat."
I didn't touch the utensils, and he threatened, "Think about the child in your belly."
Back at the shore...
No one expected things to go down like this.
Jerry wasn't playing by the rules!
Sonny was stunned, and the other henchmen rushed to the shore when they heard the gunshot.
Sawyer and Skylar also came to check out the commotion, hiding behind a small hill.
They thought Jerry's temper had finally ticked Sonny off. They even hoped to see Jerry dead, thinking it would be satisfying. Then they could take the Harris family's assets from Hope and get rid of her.
But what they saw was Jerry pointing a gun at Sonny.
The atmosphere at the shore was tense.
Only Jerry, who caused the situation, looked relaxed with one hand in his pocket.
But it was just a front. Without seeing Hope, all his nerves were on edge.
Jerry said, "I'll ask one more time, where is she?"
Sonny raised his hand, signaling everyone to lower their guns.
Jerry's personality made him hard to conquer, but that only made Sonny more desirable to conquer.
"I'll take you to her," Sonny said, smiling, and led Jerry into the forest, not caring about the gun in his hand.
He thought without seeing Hope, Jerry wouldn't kill him easily.
But Sonny didn't realize he was wrong.
Jerry's shot was a signal to Elmer's people.
He could also kill Sonny and then find Hope. But he needed to ensure the plan's integrity and distance himself from the situation.
Jerry couldn't become a husband with blood on his hands, nor a father like that.
Cecil forced me to eat, but I threw it all up within minutes.
This time, Cecil didn't offer me water or show concern. Instead, he grabbed me and took me behind the cabin, where a helicopter was parked, looking hurried and suspicious.
I was more certain that the gunshot was related to Jerry.
I couldn't leave here. If I did, it would be nearly impossible for Jerry to find me again.
I immediately clutched my stomach and leaned against a tree. "I feel sick."
Cecil's face was cold and indifferent. He reached out to pull me, but I clung to the tree trunk. The rough bark would hurt me if he used force.
"Hope," Cecil looked at me helplessly. "Are you really so unwilling to be with me?"
"I..." Instinctively protecting my stomach, I didn't want to leave but feared angering him. "Cecil, you and I..."
I was still choosing my words when suddenly a sound came from not far away.
"Get your filthy hands off her!"
I heard that familiar voice, and tears flowed uncontrollably. "Jerry!"
I watched Jerry approach step by step, trying to break free from Cecil to run to him. But Cecil's grip was like iron, and even though my wrist hurt, I couldn't break free.
Jerry approached. Seeing the red marks on my skin, he raised his gun.
Cecil pulled me in front of him, his voice cold, "Try shooting."
Cecil was acting completely insane; all he wanted was to take me away, and nothing else mattered.
His eyes were fierce. "Sonny, did I ever tell you not to use Hope to trade for him?"
Sonny shrugged. "I was threatened too, can't you see?"
Cecil sneered, clearly not believing it.
This had been Sonny's territory for a long time; there was no way Jerry could threaten him.
Cecil spoke calmly, "Come out, everyone."
Suddenly, many people emerged from the forest, surrounding them.
I kept struggling, trying to break free from Cecil and get to Jerry. But Jerry frowned and subtly shook his head at me, signaling me to stop struggling and trust him.
Jerry looked at me and said softly, "I'm here. Don't be afraid, okay?"
I wasn't afraid, but I had never wanted to hug him more than at that moment.
"Jerry, you've seen her. Can you come back with me now?" Sonny's smile faded significantly. Hope made Jerry so gentle, so he definitely couldn't keep her. It was perfect that Cecil took her away. This way, they would both achieve their goals.
Sonny reminded, "Cecil's mercenaries are different from mine. They only care about money. Pay them enough, and they'll do anything."
But as soon as Sonny finished speaking, his confidant rushed over. "Mr. Warren, it's bad! Elmer's people are attacking."
"Elmer?" Sonny looked at Jerry, his smile completely gone. "I treated you sincerely, and this is how you repay me? Go, tie him up. Cecil, take your people and get this woman far away from here."
Cecil didn't want to waste time here either.
Jerry collaborating with Elmer meant he could leave Sonny unscathed.
But Elmer wasn't easy to deal with either, and Jerry might not have a good outcome.
"Let go. I won't go with you." I clung to the edge of the helicopter, but I couldn't match the strength of a man.
Cecil warned, "If you keep causing trouble, these mercenaries will kill Jerry. If you want to see that, go ahead."
I hesitated for a few seconds and let go.
Jerry stepped forward.
The mercenaries' guns were already pointed at his chest, but he kept moving forward.
"Jerry!"
"Jerry!"
At the same time as my voice, Steven's voice rang out.
I saw him coming with many people, including Elissa.
I breathed a sigh of relief, knowing Jerry had come prepared.
Elmer followed, confronting Sonny. He had also borrowed some people to deal with Jerry's side.
Soon, Cecil watched as his men fell one by one and Jerry, unharmed, slowly approached.
Cecil showed no panic, only pulling out a gun and pointing it at my head. "Jerry, if I can't have her, neither can you. I might as well die with her. In another life, she'll love me first."
Jerry stopped, suddenly saying, "You can take her."
Cecil was stunned, then pointed the gun at Jerry. "Don't play tricks. How could you let me take her?"
"It wasn't possible before." Jerry kept looking at me. "But I don't want her to get hurt. If letting you take her means she'll be safe and unharmed, then take her. I won't stop you."
Cecil didn't believe him, convinced it was a trick.
A dangerous glint flashed in Cecil's eyes. "Since you love her so much, why don't you die for her? I can make her happier than you."
With that, Cecil pulled the trigger.
"No." I rammed him with my shoulder, and the bullet grazed Jerry's face, leaving a shallow cut.
My heart skipped a beat. "Jerry!"
"I'm here." Jerry raised his hand, wiped the blood with his thumb, and smiled at me. "I'm fine. Don't worry."
Cecil fired again, this time holding me tightly.
I had no choice but to step on his foot, but it had no effect.
The gunshot exploded in my ear.
My heart almost jumped out of my chest.
But I heard Cecil grunt.
Taking advantage of his loosened grip, I broke free from his hold.
I saw his wrist hanging down, the gun on the ground.
I was stunned, taking a few steps back, but I didn't feel relieved.
"Hope." Jerry walked over and hugged me tightly.
I finally regained some composure. "Jerry."
All the anxiety and tension of the day, all the bad emotions, disappeared at that moment. I felt an immense sense of security that no one else could give me.
Elissa wanted to come over, but seeing us hugging tightly, she waited on the side.
Suddenly, another group of people arrived.
The leader, in uniform, shouted, "Nobody move!"
Sonny hadn't brought many people to the island, confident no one could enter his territory.
But today, Jerry brought Elmer in.
Elmer came prepared, and Sonny was thoroughly defeated.
"Jerry," As Sonny closed his eyes for the last time, he called out to Jerry but received no response.
Jerry wasn't looking at anyone else now. His eyes were only on me, and mine were only on him.
Orville said, "Elmer, you have no excuse this time. I saw the whole crime scene."
"Orville?"
Elmer looked at Jerry and Hope hugging. Suddenly, he understood and quickly drew his gun.
"Jerry, watch out!"
"Jerry, watch out!"
Steven and Francis shouted simultaneously, rushing forward.
Jerry quickly shielded me, dodging.
He protected me, looking at the gun-wielding Elmer. "Mr. Jefferson, what does this mean?"
Elmer's eyes were cold and sinister.
"You ask what it means?" Elmer weighed the gun in his hand and continued, "God will tell you."
"Elmer! Drop the gun!" Orville fired a warning shot at his feet, shouting.
But Elmer wasn't afraid of the police. He signaled his men to attack. He thought, 'Today, I'm determined to kill Jerry. How dare Jerry pull a stunt like that on me? Tricking me into eliminating Sonny, only to have Orville, who has been watching me all along, catch me in the act. If someone like him can't be useful to me, they have to die.'
Orville and Elmer's men clashed again.
In the chaos, Steven covered the rear while Jerry led me out.
However, Cecil appeared out of nowhere, grabbing my arm.
His hand was still bleeding, but he was strong, and I couldn't break free.
Jerry's eyes were filled with rage as he forcefully broke Cecil's grip.
But Cecil pulled out a knife.
"Jerry, watch out!"
Jerry led Cecil away to protect me.
All my thoughts were on Jerry's safety, unaware of the danger approaching me.
"Hope, watch out!" Elissa, protected by Francis, suddenly shouted at me.
Instinctively, I turned to see Skylar pointing a gun at me.
Before I could react, she fired. "Hope, go to hell!"
The bullet came straight at me, and I heard many people shouting my name.
"Hope."
"Hope!"
"Hope."
But I didn't know why. I suddenly felt mute, unable to respond, my feet rooted to the ground.
Suddenly, a shadow fell over me and something warm and wet splashed on my face.
