Chapter 226: I Want to Celebrate Valentine's Day Too

Jerry replied, "I remember."

When it came to serious matters, Jerry's demeanor was earnest, his voice steady and composed. "She said back then that only Kimberly and Skylar instructed her. I couldn't extract any other names from her, and keeping her detained wasn't a viable option, so I let her go. Why?"

As I continued massaging his leg, I glanced up at Jerry. "I saw her yesterday. Remember when Madison suddenly announced last year that she had a daughter? Guess who that daughter is?"

Jerry's eyes narrowed. "Is it her?"

"Yes," I replied. "She's now Sarah."

Jerry's brow furrowed in contemplation. "I'll have someone look into it."

True to his nature, Jerry didn’t waste any time. He immediately made a phone call, his subordinates quick to respond. I had just finished massaging his leg when his phone rang. Jerry answered curtly, "Speak."

"Jerry, there's no trace of anything unusual. We can't find any specific details; it seems someone erased the traces."

Jerry’s voice turned steely. "Can you figure something out?"

"Continue investigating," Jerry commanded before hanging up and turning his attention back to me. "Done with the massage?"

I nodded. "Too much massage isn’t good either."

I stood up, but my leg was so numb that I stumbled and fell back down. Jerry caught me, pulling me into his lap with a firm grip.

I ended up pressed against him, his minty scent enveloping me. My ears grew warm as I struggled to get up, but Jerry held me firmly by the waist. "Hope, I want to celebrate Valentine’s Day too. You can’t favor one over the other."

I glared at him. "I’ve already told you, I didn’t celebrate Valentine’s Day with Christopher."

Jerry’s gaze was unwavering. "Then can I celebrate Valentine’s Day with you?"

He tightened his grip on my waist, pulling me closer. I could sense the depth of his intentions, but hesitation crept in. "What do you mean? If you want to celebrate, go ahead. I can’t stop you."

Jerry’s lips curled into that familiar smirk, his eyes locking onto mine. "What I mean is... celebrate Valentine’s Day with you. Don’t play dumb."

I looked at him, feeling a mix of confusion and indignation. "What kind of relationship do we have now to celebrate Valentine’s Day?"

Jerry seemed both amused and somber. "What kind of relationship? Childhood friends, engaged couple, or maybe an abandoned backup?"

I lowered my eyes and took a deep breath. "I never considered you a backup, and as for abandoning you, that was my mistake."

I shouldn't have been so self-righteous. I thought that by clearing the air with Jerry and going back to Christopher, I was doing the right thing for everyone involved.

Jerry’s eyes hardened, his voice a frigid whisper. "Even now, you don't have an explanation for that?"

I met his gaze with determination. "Jerry, the past is the past."

As my leg regained sensation, I rose to my feet, licking my lips nervously. "Sometimes, explaining doesn't make things any better."

Jerry's expression darkened with frustration. "But what if I insist? Hope, this is your last chance. If you don't explain this time, then as you wish, we’ll just be friends from now on."

"I..." I clenched my fists and took a deep breath. "Back then, I did it because..."

The door banged open at the entrance. Sophia burst in, dropping her bags on the bench and chattering away as she bent down to remove her high heels.

"Jerry, aren't you going to welcome me? Don't say I value love more. Even though I went on a date, I didn't forget to bring you some food. And your 'friend' and her ex-husband..."

I stopped mid-sentence and looked at Sophia, only seeing her head peeking from behind the cabinet.

Jerry pinched his brow and interrupted, "Sophia!"

Sophia continued. "Hold on, I'm changing my shoes. I have something that will make you happy. Your 'friend' was having dinner with her ex-husband, and suddenly..."

Jerry gritted his teeth. "Sophia!"

"What? Why are you in such a hurry? I'm just saying..." Sophia straightened up and finally noticed Jerry and me.

I quickly adopted a confused expression and looked at Sophia. "Sophia, didn’t you tell me Jerry’s leg was hurting and asked me to check on him?"

Sophia blinked in confusion for a moment before catching on. She smacked her forehead and played along. "Oh, right! I must be getting forgetful."

Jerry licked his teeth, a strained chuckle escaping him. "Don’t forget next time."

"Okay. Okay." Sophia laughed awkwardly, picked up the bags, and looked at me. "Sorry, you even didn't get to eat dinner properly. I brought back a lot of food. Do you want to join us?"

I refused, "No need, I have to go back to the nursing home."

I needed to check on Claire again, and my luggage was still in the car.

I smiled. "You guys eat. I should get going."

Jerry remained silent, and Sophia walked me to the entrance. "Thank you so much for always taking care of Jerry."

I shook my head. "It's no trouble."

"Oh, right," Sophia suddenly remembered something and smiled. "Let's add each other online. If you need any help in Maple Valley, just let me know. As long as it's legal, I can handle it."

I glanced at Jerry and smiled. "Didn't you just add me today?"
