Chapter 323 Why Must There Be Such Turmoil
Jerry let out a short laugh, his eyes full of mockery. "Why don't you ask everyone here if you're still the CEO of the Hammer Group?"
Austin gripped his cane tightly.
The last time he got so mad he spat blood, it didn't kill him, but it did mess up some nerves, making his limbs all wonky.
To gain support, he teamed up with Skyler and helped Larry smoothly take over the Harris Group.
This way, with both the Hammer Group and the Harris Group in his hands, Austin would have more power than Jerry and could control him.
But unexpectedly, Jerry came to the Hammer Group early this morning, held a high-level meeting, and didn't inform Austin.
Jerry knew someone would inform Austin. Austin rushed over as soon as he got the news, but he was still a step too late.
Austin said calmly, "I just spoke with Mr. Harris. He has officially taken control of the Harris Group and is now its new leader. He is interested in partnering with our Hammer Group, but any discussions and agreements must go through me."
"As everyone here is aware, times are changing, and our Hammer Group is also evolving. This transformation requires substantial financial investment. I believe the Harris Group is not only a suitable but also a willing partner for us," Austin added.
The people present remained silent.
The collaboration between the Harris Group and the Hammer Group didn't necessarily need Austin to make it happen.
The most pressing issue now was that Jerry was ruthless than Austin. He held their weaknesses, and they had no choice but to comply.
"Austin." A shareholder who had followed Austin for many years said, "Since you mentioned that the Hammer Group needs to transform, Us old-timers should probably retire and live it up a bit. It's the era of the young now."
"And Jerry is very capable. He founded Apex Technologies on his own, and since he returned to the Hammer Group, it has been doing very well. You're not in the best of health these days, so why not pass the torch?"
Austin couldn't believe what he was hearing. The person speaking was an old shareholder who had once led the Hammer Group to new heights with him.
Austin snapped, "Do you know what you're saying?"
The shareholder replied, "Of course I do, Austin. Both you and Jerry are Hammers. It doesn't matter who runs the Hammer Group; it's still in the Hammer family. Why do you have to make things so difficult?"
Austin glared at him. "You!"
Jerry threw the documents on the conference table, leaned back lazily, and crossed his long legs casually.
He tapped the table with his slender index finger, scanned the crowd coldly, and said in a lazy tone, "Let me see, who else wants Mr. Hammer to continue managing the Hammer Group?"
No one spoke.
The person who had fought alongside Austin also remained silent.
Jerry smirked, looking at Austin's angry face, and laughed.
He said calmly, "Let's vote. Those in favor of removing Austin from the CEO position, raise your hand."
Within seconds, everyone raised their hands.
Austin gripped his cane and slammed it on the ground.
He glared at Jerry, his eyes filled with rage. "You jerk! I should never have let you return to the Hammer Group!"
Jerry sneered, "Your biggest mistake was teaming up with outsiders to deal with Hope."
It was all for Hope again.
Austin was so angry that his face twitched, and he eventually fainted.
Jerry raised his hand, and Steven called in the bodyguards to carry Austin out.
Jerry stood up, buttoning his suit as he said, "You all made the right choice."
The crowd had no choice but to smile and see him off.
It was almost noon, and Madison still hadn't come back from Claire's room. I was getting super antsy.
Elissa tried to calm me down at first, but after a while, she saw I was still a mess and decided to stop.
She was about to sneak a peek when she opened the door and bumped into Madison.
Madison joked, "Why you sneakin' around?"
Elissa linked arms with Madison and walked in. "Madison, Hope's worried sick. I was just trying to check on things."
Madison joked, "So cautious. Am I your enemy or something?"
Elissa slapped her mouth. "No, I'm just bad with words. Forget it."
Madison knew her personality and didn't mind. She pulled me to sit down and said, "We talked for a while longer. I knew you'd be worried."
I was surprised. "You and Claire talked for that long?"
After all, Madison's relationship with the whole Harris family went south once Larry and Skylar got together.
Madison took a sip of water. "I didn't expect it either. Even in her condition, Claire could still talk to me calmly. I had forgotten many things from my time with Larry, but she remembers them all."
Suddenly, Madison's tone changed. "But I gotta tell you something."
I had a bad feeling. "Claire, she..."
Madison saw my expression and knew I had guessed it.
She nodded. "It's just as you think."
My feelings were all over the place.
Madison continued, "When I went in, she was looking for Larry. Mr. Quill and Mr. Griffin were there, and it took all their efforts to calm her down. Don't be so down. After I went in, she stopped looking for Larry."
Madison said, "Mr. Quill told me that it might help to have people she knows but isn't too familiar with talk to her more."
I guessed, "But I can't do it?"
Madison held my hand to comfort me. "It's not that you can't. It's just that for now, you should wait until she's more stable. This illness has moments of clarity."
My eyes dimmed.
Madison felt sorry for me but had to say, "You don't need to stay in the hospital all the time. You can't help much. Go home and rest. Juniper has cleared my schedule to take care of you. You look terrible. If you don't eat well, the baby won't get enough nutrition. Don't you want it anymore?"
This baby wasn't part of my plan, but since he was here, I had to be responsible for him. I just didn't expect to be in such a tough spot.
I sighed involuntarily, "It's my fault. I wasn't careful enough."
"How could you have known?" Madison got so anxious she lost her usual composure, looking like an ordinary and careful mom.
Seeing my self-blame, she couldn't help but scold me, but I could feel her love in her words. "If you could foresee the future, we would have reunited long ago. Reflecting on all these years, I deeply wish I possessed that power. If you need someone to blame, let it be me. I am your mother, the one who brought you into this world and then lost you. Had you been raised by me, none of this would have transpired."
She sighed, "I'm the one who made the biggest mistake."
The comforting words I had prepared suddenly seemed meaningless, and I laughed.
The events had already happened, and time couldn't be turned back.
The only thing I could do now was take care of myself and not worry those who loved me.
I said, "I'll listen to you, but I need to know about Claire's situation promptly."
Madison smiled. "Don't worry, I'll keep you updated with the latest and most accurate info."
Elissa chimed in, "I'll be at the hospital these days and keep you in the loop. You just go home and rest."
