Chapter 325 Claire Wants to See You

Tranquil Haven was just a hop, skip, and a jump from the hospital.

Jerry was fighting sleep, but after I nagged him enough, he finally shut his eyes and caught some Z's.

Even in that short time, he was out cold, showing just how wiped out he was.

I didn't wanna wake him; having the bodyguards around was good enough.

But as soon as the car rolled to a stop, Jerry snapped awake, grabbed my hand, and made sure I got out safe.

He'd given the hospital director a heads-up, so the check-up was a breeze.

While we waited for the results, Jerry, worried I'd start overthinking, began spilling the tea on the Harris family drama. "Skylar knew I wouldn't let them off easy. That night, she poisoned Larry and made him sign the property transfer papers."

I didn't really react. Larry had it coming. I just asked, "Does he know about Skylar and Sawyer? And that Kimberly is their kid?"

Jerry shook his head. "It was all a setup. Sawyer kidnapped Skylar and Kimberly, forcing Larry to sign. He thought the poison was from Sawyer, not Skylar."

I smirked, "He really loves Skylar, huh?"

Jerry squeezed my hand playfully. "Given the situation, you don't need to stress."

"Hope!" Elissa came running over, all excited. "Claire! Claire wants to see you!"

I was like, "What did you say?"

"Claire wants to see you!"

It finally clicked, and I was over the moon. I rushed with Jerry to Claire's room. "Does Claire recognize me?" I asked.

Elissa was beaming. "Yeah, I just checked on her, and she asked for you, so I came running."

I let out a sigh of relief, turning away to hide my tears.

Jerry, like he knew this was coming, wiped the tears from my eyes. "If you keep crying, it's gonna break my heart. Don't cry."

I tried to pull myself together and nodded hard. "Okay!"

I couldn't let Jerry worry about me anymore.

Walking into the room, Claire saw my tear-streaked face and quickly asked, "Why are you crying? Is it the pregnancy?"

I wanted to talk, but I knew if I opened my mouth, I'd lose it and start bawling again.

To keep Claire from worrying, I just shook my head.

Elissa looked anxious. "Claire, I heard pregnancy can mess with your emotions. You're not in great health, so it's normal for Hope to be worried."

Claire remembered the kidnapping, so there was no point in hiding it.

She touched my head, looking at me with so much love. "I'm sorry for making you worry."

I shook my head hard.

Claire wiped my tears. "Don't cry. Crying a lot during pregnancy is bad for your eyes. You don't wanna ruin those beautiful eyes, right?"

I wiped away my tears, took a deep breath, and got a grip on my emotions. "I won't cry anymore. You're okay, so I shouldn't cry. I should be happy."

"Good girl." Claire held my hand tight. "I don't wanna stay in the hospital anymore."

I nodded. "Then I'll take you home."

"Okay."

While I helped Claire change clothes, Jerry went to consult Grant about her condition and asked for instructions.

Back at Tranquil Haven, after a bit of tidying up, Claire felt tired and went to her bedroom to crash.

I looked at Jerry, who had just finished a work call and plopped down on the sofa. I poured him a glass of water and sat down next to him.

After all the hustle and bustle, I remembered the prenatal check-up. "Hey, what about the test results?"

Jerry glanced at my belly with a soft smile. "The baby's doing great. All your hard work is paying off."

Steven, holding a file, chimed in, "Jerry, I'll be waiting in the car."

Jerry nodded. "Got it."

Once Steven left, Jerry noticed me glancing worriedly towards Claire's room. He reassured me, "Mr. Quill said as long as she stays calm, she'll be okay."

I got the hint. "And Claire's health..."

Jerry nodded, wrapping his arm around my shoulders. "Life's got its ups and downs. Birth, aging, illness, and death are just part of the deal. You gotta face it with peace. Make Claire's remaining days happy, and find some joy for yourself too."

He checked his watch, probably still swamped with stuff. "Mr. Quill said staying positive is crucial. Being happy can really help her out."

I nodded, not wanting to hold him up. "Go ahead, be safe. Let me know when you get there."

Jerry kissed my forehead, ruffled my hair, and headed out.

The next few days were chill.

Jerry would text me to say he was fine, but not much else.

When I asked about what was going on, he'd just say not to worry and that it'd be over soon.

Claire and I mostly hung out at Tranquil Haven.

We planted flowers, raised fish, and did puzzles. Grant said these hobbies were good for Claire's health and helped keep her stable.

Madison would drop by whenever she could, checking on me and bringing all sorts of fancy supplements.

She also handed Ellen a meal plan from her private nutritionist, gratefully saying, "Thanks for taking care of Hope since she got pregnant."

Ellen smiled. "You're being too nice. It's my job to look after her."

Ellen quickly waved her hand, flipping through the meal plan with a big grin. "This plan is awesome. I was worried about what to cook for her, especially since nutritional needs change during pregnancy. I'm no expert and was concerned about getting it right. If the baby's too small, it might be weak, and if it's too big, it could make delivery tough."

I knew Ellen was taking care of me as Jerry's future wife, so she did everything without a fuss.

Just as Madison was about to respond, there was a sudden loud crash outside.

Thunder roared, and lightning lit up the sky. Even though it was afternoon, it looked like night.

Seeing the storm rolling in, I said, "Mom, if you don't have plans, stay over tonight. It's too risky to drive in this weather."

"Alright, I'll stay and keep you company." Madison nodded happily.

I picked up my phone and sent Jerry a message, telling him to be careful too.

But I didn't get a reply.

I figured he was just busy and hadn't checked his phone.

Before I got a reply from Jerry, Claire started insisting on going out, and I couldn't stop her.

Claire shouted, "I want to find Larry!"

The rain was already pouring, and the road was flooding fast.

Claire kept heading towards the front door, muttering about finding Larry.

"Claire, listen to me..." I tried to calm her down, but as soon as I touched her, she pushed me away hard.

"Hope..."
