Chapter 282: I'll Have My Mom Blacklist You
I was totally clueless about what Jerry had just said, but outta nowhere, Sophia snapped back, "Who's drunk? Fine, you'll be begging me soon enough!"
Then she slammed the phone down and turned to me with a grin. "Hope, can I do you a solid, considering I might be your future aunt?"
I raised an eyebrow. "Aunt? Are you seriously thinking about getting back with Neil just for this?"
"Something to think about." Sophia gave me a wink. "So, can you help me out?"
I asked, "What kind of help?"
"Just keep Jerry in the dark about your thing with Madison for now."
I was confused. "Huh?"
"I've never seen Jerry lose." Sophia looked super hopeful.
I chuckled, "That's all you need help with?"
Sophia nodded. "Yep, will you?"
"Sure." I nodded without hesitation.
Sophia was probably the closest person to Jerry among the younger generation of the Hammer family, besides Avery. I also wanted to get along well with her.
Plus, at tomorrow's celebration party, my identity would be out in the open. Even if I didn't tell Jerry, he'd know by tomorrow at the latest.
Sophia pinched my cheek and looked at me with a loving gaze. "No wonder Jerry likes you. I do too!"
I was helpless.
As soon as Madison got into the car, Juniper slid in next to her.
Juniper asked, "So, Hope didn't get mad at you for your attitude last time, right?"
"No." Madison's long lashes were still a bit damp, and she said with a mix of relief and heartache, "She has no temper at all. She didn't even bring up last time. When I was just coming downstairs, she even called me Mom."
Juniper was happy for her. "That's great! When are you planning to do the paternity test?"
"Not doing it!" Madison didn't even think about it and said firmly, "Juniper, you might not believe it, but the second she called me 'Mom,' my feeling was completely different!"
Over the years, whether it was young actors on set or Sarah calling Madison 'Mom,' nothing compared to the impact of Hope simply saying 'Mom.'
When verifying Sarah's identity for the first time, there were tons of hesitations and speculations, she even went as far as repeatedly confirming through paternity tests.
But this time, it felt like some kind of guidance from above. She was very sure that Hope was her daughter. The biological daughter she had carried for ten months and given birth to with all her might.
Although Juniper also thought Hope looked more like Madison's daughter, she was always rational and still asked, "Are you sure? Aren't you afraid of repeating the same mistake?"
Naturally, she was referring to Sarah.
Madison closed her eyes. "Juniper, I get your concerns, but I can truly feel that mother-daughter bond. Besides, what Hope needs most right now is my love. I shouldn't doubt her and create any barriers."
Juniper was silent for a moment. "Alright, let's leave it at that for now and make plans later."
She remembered something. "By the way, 'Living Dreamscape' called earlier. They're starting to edit the first episode and asked how we want it edited."
'Living Dreamscape' was the variety show Sarah was currently on.
The production team asking this question likely meant Sarah didn't perform well on the show but created some buzzworthy moments. So they wanted to check Madison's thoughts, essentially trying to curry favor with her.
"How should it be edited?" Madison sneered, "However they want."
Juniper nodded. "Alright, I'll get back to them now."
[Madison says to prioritize the show and not to consult her further.]
The variety show's producer, Michael White, was kinda thrown off when he got Juniper's message. What the heck did that mean? Did he mess up trying to butter her up and end up ticking her off? Did Madison think he was trying to strong-arm her?
Michael shivered and quickly shot back: [Juniper, maybe I wasn't clear earlier. I just wanted to assure you that we'll edit Sarah's segments carefully, perfectly matching her online image.]
Juniper: [Did I not make myself clear? Michael, make it as buzzworthy as possible. If the market loves it, Ms. Ortiz might fund the next season, got it?]
Michael, being a sharp dude, finally got it. [Got it! I'll follow your instructions!]
So Sarah had managed to tick off her mom.
But Michael was also a bit worried. Would a mom really let the show highlight her daughter's bad side? How big could their beef be?
But that was none of his business. His job was to keep Madison happy. Editing it to be as buzzworthy as possible. He grinned, confident he could nail this.
Sarah's car pulled up on the gravel road, and her assistant hopped out first, turning to help Sarah down.
After trending on Instagram last time, she got a ton of offers—scripts, variety shows, magazine shoots.
As a regular on 'Living Dreamscape,' she couldn't do movies or another variety show, but skipping an episode for a magazine shoot was cool.
Today, Sarah had wrapped up a magazine shoot, and as soon as she got out of the van, a bunch of fans were waiting by the roadside to cheer her on.
"Sarah! We love you!"
"Sarah, make sure to eat well; you're getting too thin!"
"Sarah, just do your best. We'll make sure this magazine issue sells out!"
Unlike last time, this time, all the fans were Sarah's fans.
Sarah smiled and gave them a slight bow, her voice sweet. "Thanks, everyone. The drinks I ordered are on the way. Once they're here, help yourselves and chill out!"
The assistant was momentarily stunned but said nothing. Once they got back to the variety show set and entered the room, the assistant covered a camera before asking, "Sarah, did you order takeout?"
Even though this was a rural area, it was close to town, so takeout was doable. But she hadn't seen Sarah order anything.
Sarah was indifferent. "No."
The assistant said, "Then why did you tell the fans you did..."
Sarah rolled her eyes. "Why all the questions? Since I didn't order it, can't you just go ahead and order? As an assistant, shouldn't you know what to do?"
"But..." The assistant glanced out the window toward the road. "It's so hot. If we order now, they'll have to wait a long time."
"So what?" Sarah was impatient. "Fans these days are dumb. As long as they get the takeout, they'll be happy. Even if they wait a long time, they'll just blame the delivery guy. What does that have to do with me? Alright, stop nagging. If you keep it up, I'll fire you too."
This time Madison had originally set up an assistant for her. But she always felt like she was being watched by Madison, so she found an excuse to fire that assistant.
The new assistant quickly bowed her head and apologized, "I'm sorry; I was wrong."
As she looked up, she suddenly noticed a fixed camera above and was startled, rushing over to cover it. "Wait, why is there another camera in the room?"
Usually, content recorded after covering the camera wouldn't be broadcast.
"Useless!" Sarah glared at her, "If you keep being so careless, I'll have my mom blacklist you! You'll never work in this industry again!"
Sarah instructed, "Ask the director how they had the nerve to install another camera in my room without letting me know."
