Chapter 259: You Can Start Kissing Now

Micah?

I frowned. "I'm not Mrs. Valence, and I don't know you. Please move."

"But you know Mr. Valence, right?"

Micah didn't seem threatening, just overly eager. "Don't worry, I mean no harm."

I took a step back, puzzled. "So?"

Micah seemed pretty familiar with Christopher.

But I had yet to learn what he was after.

With a knowing look, Micah said, "Mrs. Valence, I know you and Mr. Valence just got divorced recently, but don't you think it's a shame?"

I sneered, "You got nothing better to do?"

Micah laughed awkwardly. "Don't be mad. I saw Mr. Valence looking heartbroken over you a few days ago. I just don't want you to miss out on a good man."

"He didn't send you, did he?" I asked.

Christopher wouldn't be this roundabout.

Micah quickly shook his head. "Of course not. It's been a while since the divorce. Whatever the conflict was, you must have calmed down by now. Have you thought about getting back together?"

Micah continued, "Mr. Valence definitely still has feelings for you! A woman's happiness depends on finding a good man. Mr. Valence only has eyes for you. You should hold on to him!"

Micah kept going, trying to drill his ideas into me. "Women can throw tantrums, but if you go too far, it might give other women a chance. Mrs. Valence, you seem smart. Isn't it better to go back to Jacquar and be Mrs. Valence than to be a mistress here?"

I retorted, "Mistress?"

Micah was taken aback. "What, Mr. Hammer hasn't even acknowledged you as his mistress?"

I was momentarily speechless at Micah's logic and coldly replied, "I get why you're pushing me to reconcile with Christopher. It's for personal gain or a project, right? Don't bother. My relationship with my boyfriend is none of your business."

Then I glared at Micah. "Don't block my way!"

"You—" Seeing my indifference, Micah got angry. "Who do you think you are? You want everything, thinking about Mr. Valence while being with Mr. Hammer and now acting all high and mighty in front of me?"

I almost laughed in anger. "Looks like you have a habit of projecting your thoughts onto others, right?"

That was human nature.

Whatever dark thoughts someone had, they tended to think others were the same.

With that, I couldn't be bothered to argue anymore and turned to head toward another entrance.

Micah called out, "Hope! Do you really think Mr. Hammer can stay interested in you for long?"

He sneered, "Do you really think you can marry into the Hammer family? It's ridiculous. I'll be waiting for the day you hit rock bottom."

I hurried away, about to turn the corner when a strong hand grabbed my wrist.

Startled, I turned around and found myself looking into Jerry's brown eyes. I let out a silent sigh of relief. "You scared me!"

Jerry raised an eyebrow. "Why are you walking so fast? Saw a ghost?"

"Yeah, I saw a ghost!" I glared at him. "A ghost that called me your mistress!"

Jerry frowned. "What do you mean?"

I explained, "Someone blocked me at the entrance just now."

I took Jerry's big hand and walked toward the elevator, complaining, "He thought I was your mistress and said your interest in me wouldn't last long, telling me not to dream about marrying into the Hammer family."

I didn't mention Micah's attempt to persuade me to reconcile with Christopher.

Jerry already had enough to deal with at the Hammers tonight; no need to add to his frustration, especially when I knew in my heart which path I wanted to take in the future.

Unexpectedly, as I rambled on, Jerry was busy texting someone on his phone, seemingly distracted, only catching the last few words. "So, do you want to?"

"What?" I asked instinctively.

Jerry teased with a smile. "Do you want to marry me?"

I glared at him. "Is this a proposal?"

"No." Jerry quickly denied it, then ruffled my hair. "A proposal can't be so casual. At the very least, I should be the one to bring it up."

Jerry soothed my irritation from dealing with Micah. I looked at him and smiled. "Alright."

Jerry led me into the elevator. "So, do I get a reward for being so considerate?"

I asked back, "What do you want? As long as it doesn't bankrupt me, I can fulfill it."

"Kiss me." Jerry pointed to his right cheek.

I instinctively looked up at the camera above, gritting my teeth. "There's surveillance!"

"Well," Jerry reluctantly responded, and the next second, he blocked the camera with his hand, looking at me. "Now you can kiss me, right?"

I rolled my eyes, but I quickly stood on tiptoe, kissed his cheek, and pulled his hand down. "Is that enough?"

"Just barely." Jerry raised an eyebrow, looking somewhat dissatisfied.

The elevator stopped on the fifth floor, and seeing him not moving, I urged, "You should get off."

He lived on the fifth floor, and I lived on the sixth.

Jerry smirked, "And you?"

"Me? I live..." I was a bit slow to react, and before I could finish, Jerry scooped me up and carried me out!

The elevator doors closed again.

Jerry pressed me against the entrance, looking deeply into my eyes. "Alright, no cameras here."

"What?"

Once again, I didn't catch on, and he softly reminded me, "You can start kissing now."
