Chapter 326 Jerry Is Angry
Madison was on me in a flash.
But by then, Claire had already bolted.
I snatched an umbrella and dashed after her.
Madison grabbed my arm. "You can't run. Take it easy. I'll go after her."
She handed me her big umbrella and took my small one, sprinting after Claire.
I couldn't actually slow down, so I hustled after them, trying not to jostle the baby.
Madison caught up with Claire, but Claire was losing it, screaming Larry's name. The umbrella was useless; they were both drenched.
I tried to cover them with the umbrella, but the wind was wild, and it didn't help much.
Plus, Claire wasn't having it.
She yelled, "Larry, take me to Larry!"
Madison didn't want to hurt Claire, so she just followed her outside.
She shot me a worried look. "You should head home. It's fall, and your immune system's shot during pregnancy. Getting soaked could mean a cold, and that's a hassle."
I was already soaked.
In just a few seconds, Madison and Claire were way ahead.
I thought for a sec, realizing I had to put the baby first.
I turned to head home, planning to call the bodyguards in the garage to find Madison and Claire. Out of nowhere, I bumped into someone and got lifted off my feet before I could see who it was.
Smelling that familiar fresh scent, I stifled a scream and asked, "What brings you back?"
Jerry held me tight, striding upstairs straight into the bathroom.
He wrapped me in a towel, adjusted the shower, and started undressing me.
"Claire..." I didn't fight it, and soon I was completely naked. Before the cold could hit, hot water surrounded me.
Jerry was soaked too, his black shirt clinging to his muscles. His face was stone-cold, rain dripping down his jawline, making him look icy.
I asked, "Are you mad at me?"
Jerry drenched me in hot water, then put a bathrobe on me and carried me to the bed.
He wrapped me in a blanket and went to get a hairdryer to dry my hair.
Noticing his silence, guilt hit me, and I blurted out, "It was an emergency. I was careful because of the baby. I didn't act impulsively. Please, don't be mad."
Jerry ran his fingers through my hair, making sure it was dry before turning off the hairdryer.
Outside, the rain pounded the window, dark clouds making the room gloomy.
Only the bedside lamp was on, and Jerry's eyes were locked on me.
Wrapped in a blanket, I scooted closer, gently intertwining our fingers, looking up at him. "I really didn't mean to take any risks. I always remember I'm pregnant. Just now downstairs, I was already planning to go home first."
"Really?"
I lightly shook his fingers, softly saying, "Yeah, I always hear you."
"You never listen." Jerry glanced at me, giving my cheek a playful pinch. "Claire and Madison will be fine. Steven's already on it. When I saw you soaked, I was mad, but I'm over it now."
I sighed in relief, trying to hug him, but he pushed me away. "I'm gonna take a shower."
Jerry quickly showered, changed into gray loungewear, and only after making sure he was warm did he come to hold me.
I nuzzled his neck. "I'm sorry for worrying you."
Jerry patted my head. "Your apologies are like leaves in the wind; they mean nothing and are gone in an instant, only to return with the next breeze."
My apologies did lack conviction. I pulled away, hooked my arms around his neck, and asked, "What can I do to make you believe me?"
Upon hearing this, a flicker of desire flashed in Jerry's eyes as he glanced at my belly. "I thought having a kid with you would be great, but now it feels like a hassle."
I slapped his arm. "Don't say that; the baby can hear you."
Jerry clicked his tongue, sounding all dramatic. I started massaging his shoulders. "You've seemed really tired lately; let me help you unwind."
Jerry grabbed my hand and chuckled, "Okay, but your massage is like a feather's touch."
Seeing his mood lift, I confided, "Claire had an episode out of nowhere, calling for Larry. But I haven't mentioned him or shown her anything about him recently."
Jerry handed me his phone.
I looked down and saw a news article.
Even though Larry and I weren't close, seeing the news of his death still made my heart skip a beat.
"Is this real?"
Jerry took back the phone. "Almost became real."
I asked, "Is Larry in your hands now?"
Jerry replied, "He's in the ICU."
"So you came back suddenly because of this?"
Jerry nodded, "I remembered Claire would play with her phone after her nap. I thought you would see it first."
I felt a bit guilty. "My mom came over, I was talking to her and didn't check my phone. What's Larry's condition now?"
Jerry replied, "If he's lucky, he might wake up, but what state he'll be in is uncertain."
I fell silent. I didn't care much about Larry's life or death, but with Claire's current state, if she couldn't see Larry, she might not survive either.
Despite her son colluding with outsiders to kidnap her, as a mother, she still harbored a tender affection for him deep in her heart.
"As for Skylar..." Jerry patted my head and continued, "Sawyer hasn't been caught, but Skylar and Kimberly are in my hands."
Jerry added, "Sawyer took the Harris family's assets. Now it's up to him whether he wants money or his wife and daughter."
I held Jerry's hand. "Sawyer is not a good person; you need to watch out."
Jerry pinched my face hard. "If you could behave, I would feel better."
Indeed, if I behaved, he wouldn't have to worry about protecting me and could handle things better.
I looked up at him. "I promise it won't happen again, okay?"
Jerry looked into my eyes, and just when I thought he was going to kiss me, he stood up. "Don't tempt me."
At the hospital, Madison took the clean clothes Steven brought and showered in the ward's bathroom.
When she came out, Steven handed her some warm soup. "Jerry arranged it."
Madison took it, praising, "He's thoughtful."
Steven thought, 'He wants to marry your daughter, after all.'
After drinking the soup, Madison felt warm all over.
She put down the cup, thinking of updating Hope on the situation, only to realize she didn't have her phone.
She asked Steven for his phone, and Steven said, "I've already reported everything to Jerry; he'll inform Ms. Royston."
Madison trusted Jerry's handling.
Upon hearing this, she said, "Alright, you go ahead with your work; don't worry about me. I can take care of myself. I'll go check on Claire."
Madison went to Claire's room, and she was already asleep.
"Did you give her a sedative?" she asked Grant.
Grant nodded. "We had to. It was the only way to calm her down. Her recovery now depends on her body's strength."
"Do you know the cause of the episode?" Madison asked.
Grant showed her his phone.
Madison and Larry were more than strangers, yet not quite enemies. She hoped their paths would never cross again.
But seeing the news of his death, she still frowned.
Grant put away his phone. "He's in the ICU due to poisoning. Although treatment has been administered, his survival is still uncertain."
