Chapter 301 The Mastermind Behind the Scenes Is Not Her

When Jerry heard the news, he didn't even flinch. It was like he saw it coming. He just gave a slight nod.

Jerry then started walking towards the street, doing his own thing.

Steven hustled to catch up, already planning the next steps. "Should we have them follow?"

"Nah."

"Why not?" Steven usually got Jerry's drift, but this time he was stumped. "Jerry, he's going to meet the big boss, right? Shouldn't we tail him while we can?"

As Steven talked, he ran ahead of Jerry, opened the car's back door, then hopped into the driver's seat. After firing up the engine, he finally heard Jerry's calm voice, "Sawyer might be desperate enough to fall for the same trick twice, but the guy pulling his strings isn't that dumb."

In fact, he might be even sneakier than Jerry thought.

Steven, while merging into traffic, thought for a moment and then cautiously said, "So, following him this time would just screw us over?"

Jerry nodded slightly, still calm. "Yep."

Not only would they miss the mastermind, but they might also take a big hit. Jerry never went for a losing game.

Steven got it, rubbed his nose, and admitted, "I was too slow to catch on, almost got our guys in trouble."

Sawyer had just taken a hit from them; no way the mastermind would let them follow the trail again.

But Sawyer had gone out. The only reason could be a big trap set for them. Even if there wasn't a big trap, they definitely wouldn't let them find anyone.

Jerry glanced at him through the rearview mirror and lazily said, "It's cool; you've been working for me for years, not because of your brains."

Steven was a bit taken aback, feeling like he got roasted. He wasn't sure, so he just zoned out.

When Jerry walked into the hospital room with food, Claire was still out cold.

I tucked Claire in and walked over to grab the food from his hands. "We could've just ordered takeout; no need to go so far to get it."

Jerry probably hadn't slept all night and had been busy all day; he must be wiped out.

He didn't hand it to me, just put it on the table. "The takeout place is a branch, not as good as the main store."

'True that,' I thought and opened the food containers, starting to eat with him. But I felt uneasy; the food tasted like cardboard.

Jerry looked at me. "Worried Skylar won't show?"

"Yeah." I was a bit anxious. "With Skylar's personality, she'd want me to sign the agreement ASAP, but it's so late, and she still hasn't come."

"She won't come."

"What did you say?" I was stunned for a moment, put down my utensils, and looked at him, confused. "She won't come? Why? Isn't her goal the inheritance?"

"You eat first, and I'll tell you." He put the fork in my hand, and seeing me start eating again, he began to speak, "Of course she wants to come, but the antidote isn't in her hands."

"What do you mean?" I frowned. "Wasn't Desmond someone she found?"

Jerry poured me a glass of water. "She did find him, but the real mastermind behind this isn't her."

"Not her? Then who..."

Jerry's tone was cold. "The other party likely isn't after the Harris family's property."

I immediately felt a chill, my heart sank. "Then what about Claire?"
