Chapter 264: Sooner or Later, She Will Be His
The moment hung heavy in the air.
Yet, Cecil maintained his calm demeanor, his gentle smile unwavering. "Congratulations."
Cecil turned to Jerry. "Hope's been through a lot. I hope she won't suffer anymore with you. If she does, I won't let it slide."
I had thought things might get a bit awkward.
Even though Cecil promised we'd just be friends, I could tell he wasn't really over me.
For the past two years, Cecil hadn't said anything about his feelings, but his daily care spoke volumes.
He never brought it up, and I didn't feel right mentioning it either.
Now that we had a chance to talk, and he didn't act weird, I felt relieved.
Elissa shook her fist at Jerry. "Mr. Hammer, Hope is my best and only friend. If you hurt her, I won't let it go either."
Jerry looked down at me. "If I hurt her, I'll be the first to punish myself."
I pretended to be mad and threatened, "How dare you even hurt me in the first place!"
Later, Cecil had to leave for something, and Jerry had to go to work at Apex Technologies.
Elissa immediately came over, giving me a knowing smile. "Spill it; what happened last night? What did you guys do?"
I smiled. "Nothing happened."
We just slept together, that was all.
Elissa didn't buy it. "Really?"
I laughed helplessly, "I got my period; what else could we do?"
Elissa, disappointed, muttered, "Your period has the worst timing."
Sarah arrived at the quiet, peaceful village in a neighboring state where the variety show was being filmed, nestled by the mountains and water.
At mealtime, the delicious aroma of food wafted from the nearby houses.
This time, a very popular veteran actor was among the regular guests. As a result, many fans had been waiting nearby early just to catch a glimpse of their favorite actor.
Sarah got out of the car at the intersection, pulling her suitcase in the direction indicated by the sign.
With a sweet smile, Sarah caught the attention of many fans.
"Who is she?"
"I don't know. She came in the show's car. Must be a guest too?"
"That's the newcomer who was suddenly added a few days ago. I heard she's Madison's daughter!"
"She comes from such a good background, but she seems really nice."
Sarah happened to pass by them and pointed at the blazing sun, softly saying, "It's really hot today; be careful not to get heatstroke."
"Okay! You're so pretty!" The fans nodded frantically.
After Sarah walked a bit further, they started to exclaim, "She's so petite, her voice is so soft, and she's so kind, even caring about us! I'm going to be her fan!"
"She's really well-mannered; it makes sense she's Madison's daughter."
Hearing the faint voices from behind, Sarah's smile deepened.
In the entertainment industry, everyone had a crafted image.
On and off the screen, it was all about acting.
Sarah might not be great at acting on screen, but she was excellent at pretending off-screen.
Having lived at the bottom for over twenty years, she knew exactly what kind of person these fans would like.
She walked into the courtyard where the show was being filmed and greeted the others one by one.
With the identity of Madison's daughter, almost everyone was very warm to Sarah.
There were fixed cameras everywhere, and Sarah was confused as a newcomer, but she was very sweet. She even brought gifts for everyone, including the director's team.
She could imagine when the show aired, there would be no shortage of people praising her.
It wasn't until she entered her room at night, covered the camera with a piece of clothing, and her face turned serious. She grabbed her phone and ran into the bathroom to call Cecil.
She wondered how Cecil was progressing.
Cecil sat in the dark, looking at the constantly ringing phone, feeling irritated.
But the person on the other end was persistent. The ringing stopped only when he answered. Cecil snapped, "Are you crazy?"
"Mr. Lewis!" Sarah took a deep breath and anxiously asked, "How are you planning to solve this?"
She had been on edge all day, still having to act in front of the cameras.
Cecil pinched the bridge of his nose, feeling a bit anxious. "Wait a bit longer."
Today he had gone to Maple Valley, intending to use the same old trick, casually picking up a few hairs from the bathroom to give to Sarah and solve the problem.
But when Cecil opened the door, Hope wasn't there, and the bathroom was full of Elissa's hair.
Cecil couldn't help but ask, "Where's Hope?"
Elissa, knowing Cecil's feelings for Hope, stammered, "She hasn't come back yet."
Had she just gone out and not returned, or had she been out all night?
Before Cecil could ask further, he saw Hope and Jerry chasing each other into the house.
Cecil hadn't seen the lively, bright Hope in a long time.
The question he didn't get to ask was already answered.
Sarah was upset. "What? If I wait any longer, Madison would find out everything. I might as well leave now!"
Cecil spoke coldly, "How dare you! If you ruin my plans, I can kill you right now."
Actually, Cecil didn't care if Madison would find out Sarah wasn't her daughter.
But if Madison suspected that Hope might be her biological daughter, it would be all over.
Madison's daughter, the Harris family's daughter, either identity would be enough for Hope to marry into the Hammer family.
Cecil couldn't allow that.
As long as Hope's identity didn't change, Austin Hammer wouldn't agree to Jerry's marriage.
With the Hammer family's methods, Hope would eventually hit a dead end.
Then Hope would be his!
Now, he just needed a little more time; a few days would be enough.
Sarah was still afraid of Cecil, her fingers trembling. "Then think of something quickly!"
Sarah hung up the phone and installed a discreet camera in the surveillance camera's blind spot. If anyone entered her room, her phone would get an alert!
