Chapter 306 But I Can't Wait Any Longer
"Didn't you already take a shower?"
I caught the hint in Jerry's words and decided to play dumb, just to mess with him. "Put me down."
"Nope," Jerry said, eyes twinkling with a mischievous grin. Then he kicked open the bathroom door.
Hot water and kisses rained down on me, leaving me gasping for air.
Later, he kept teasing me until I could barely stand.
Jerry scooped me up effortlessly, my legs wrapped around his waist.
I figured this was gonna be another one of those all-nighters.
But after just one time, he gently wrapped me in a towel and carried me to bed.
Feeling a bit shy, I pulled the blanket up to my eyes, peeking out at Jerry.
Jerry met my gaze and chuckled, "You better not say those two words."
I asked, "How do you know what I'm gonna say?"
"Of course, I know." Jerry leaned in closer, gently brushing his nose against mine, and said slowly, "Because I'm your husband."
He stretched out the last word, making my cheeks flush with heat. I pulled the blanket tighter around me, mumbling, "We're not married, so you're not my husband."
Jerry lay down beside me, wrapping both me and the blanket in his arms, his long legs tangling with mine.
I couldn't move at all.
The vibe was both cozy and sweet.
Jerry stared at me, his eyes deeper and more unreadable in the dim light. I tried to move but couldn't, and tentatively asked, "Are you mad because of what I just said?"
Jerry stared at me, his eyes calm and deep, making it hard to guess his thoughts.
"I..."
"If I were mad," Jerry suddenly interrupted me, lowering his head even closer, his husky voice dripping with temptation, "How would you cheer me up?"
I knew he was teasing me and glared at him.
Jerry chuckled and kissed my forehead. "Well, since the mood is right and you brought it up, I might as well propose," he joked.
I couldn't move, so I shot him an angry glare.
'Seriously? Proposing in bed? That's way too casual,' I thought.
Jerry laughed and pinched my cheek. "What's with that look? Not planning to say yes? After one failed marriage, are you scared of tying the knot again?"
I knew Jerry's sharp tongue well.
And even though the thing with Christopher seemed behind us, Jerry was still jealous.
"I've already had one failed marriage. Why would I want to get married again?" I shot back.
Jerry pressed his thumb against my lips. "Let's see how good you are with that mouth," he murmured.
His kiss was as intense as I expected, and just as I was about to reciprocate as an apology for my earlier words, he suddenly stopped.
I was left breathless and full of questions.
Jerry let go of me completely, tapping my forehead twice with his index finger and teasing with a sultry laugh, "Craving more?"
'You rascal!' My face turned red. I turned over, too lazy to pay him any attention.
Jerry patted me through the blanket, and I heard his footsteps.
Sneaking a glance, I saw him enter the bathroom.
Jerry grabbed the hairdryer, and as his gaze swept over the trash can, he seemed to remember something.
His footsteps resumed, and I quickly turned my back to him.
Jerry didn't call me out, sitting by the bed to dry my hair.
His long fingers combed through my hair with great patience.
After drying my hair, Jerry carelessly dried his own and then pulled back the blanket, hugging me from behind.
Jerry's large hand suddenly covered my lower abdomen, his voice slightly hoarse. "Your period hasn't started this month, has it?"
No wonder he only went for one round; he was being careful. I leaned against Jerry's chest, looking up at him as I murmured, "You might get your wish soon."
He raised an eyebrow. "And if I don't, I'll make sure I do."
"Pervert," I laughed and scolded.
Jerry's face turned serious, gently patting my back, his voice full of comfort. "Tomorrow I'll go with you for a check-up."
"I was planning to wait a few days and buy a pregnancy test first."
He whispered, "But I can't wait."
I could feel Jerry was looking forward to this baby, and so was I.
If it weren't for the current troubles, we should be very happy.
But since fate had given us this gift, I was ready to embrace it with open arms.
I agreed, "Okay."
The next day, the first thing I did after getting up and washing was to check on Claire.
To my surprise, Jerry had already taken Claire for a walk.
Jerry said, "Up so early?"
I couldn't tell if he was praising me or teasing me for sleeping in, so I glared at him and went to support Claire, speaking in a reproachful tone, "Why didn't you wake me?"
Jerry gently smoothed my messy hair, his voice lazy but filled with affection. "You were snoring in your sleep, how could I disturb your sweet dreams?"
"You were the one snoring." I complained to Claire, "Claire, he's teasing me; you have to stand up for me!"
Claire chuckled, pretending to be puzzled, "Who's teasing you? Jerry? It looks to me like you're the one teasing him."
"Claire!" I shook Claire's arm, feeling aggrieved. "Are you really my grandmother?"
"Of course I am." Claire pinched my cheek. "Alright, you two lovebirds stop showing off in front of me, go do your own thing."
I had promised Jerry I would go for a check-up today, but seeing Claire's tired face, trying so hard to look energetic just to avoid worrying me, I didn't want to go anywhere. I just wanted to stay by her side.
Jerry noticed my hesitation and gently coaxed me, "Ellen is here with Claire. We'll be back soon, okay?"
I knew he was worried about my health too; otherwise, we wouldn't have made love just once last night.
Since that was the case, it was better to confirm it, so we could both be at ease.
I looked at Claire, softly instructing, "Have a good rest after breakfast, I'll be back soon."
"Oh, I'm fine. Go ahead, don't worry."
Claire wanted to reassure me, so I didn't say more and went to wash up and change clothes.
Jerry drove himself.
With one hand on the steering wheel and the other holding mine, his thumb gently stroked the back of my hand.
The autumn sun filtered softly through the glass.
Despite all the troubles we faced, this moment felt inexplicably peaceful.
Selfishly, I just wanted to savor this tranquility.
At the hospital, while waiting for the blood test results, I couldn't help but feel anxious.
Jerry noticed my tension and held my hand again.
But I felt the slight dampness in his palm, realizing he was just as nervous as I was, only better at hiding it.
"Mr. Hammer." Soon, the director personally brought the test results.

When Cecil came to the hospital to change his dressing, the nurse at the station was a bit surprised.
"Mr. Lewis, didn't you just change it yesterday? The next change should be tomorrow."
"Sorry." Cecil smiled apologetically, explaining, "I accidentally got it wet while showering this morning. I'm worried the wound might get infected."
"I see." The nurse nodded. "Come with me then."
With that, she led Cecil into a room.
