Chapter 310 Afraid I'll Hurt Him

Later, without waiting for Jerry to get back, my phone buzzed with a message.

Cecil: [Hope, seriously, have you not thought about my offer?]

Cecil: [Jerry can't get the antidote. Aren't you scared something might happen to him?]

My grip on the phone tightened, my fingertips turning white, and my face went pale.

My heart was a mess.

I couldn't help but sigh. Cecil really knew me too well after all these years. He could read me like a book because of our long friendship.

I was worried. What if something happened to Jerry? What about our baby?

Could I really let Jerry risk his life for me?

A chill ran through me as I stared blankly at the unconscious Claire. At some point, tears had started streaming down my face.

"Hope, I'm back..." Jerry pushed the door open and walked in. Halfway through his sentence, he frowned and wiped away my tears. "Why are you crying?"

"Jerry..." I sniffled, just calling his name before hugging him and bursting into tears.

I didn't say anything, so he could only guess.

While gently stroking my back, he softly asked, "Did Mr. Griffin say something about Claire?"

"No." I shook my head, choking up.

Jerry's sharp gaze fell on the phone I had casually placed aside, his voice deepening. "Did Cecil say something to you again?"

I was slightly stunned, hesitating a bit.

I always knew he was smart, but I didn't expect him to see through everything.

Before I could think it over, he pulled a chair over, sat down casually, leaned forward slightly, and looked me in the eyes. "Hope, I thought we were on the same page about this."

I paused. "About what?"

"That no matter what happens, we should always be honest with each other."

Jerry's usual nonchalance faded, and his eyes stared at me intently. "Do you not trust me? Or do you think our relationship is only about looking out for ourselves when things get tough?"

"No!" I quickly denied it, earnestly saying, "I never thought that!"

"Really?" He pressed, "Then why are you hesitating?"

"I..." I took a deep breath, explaining, "I'm just worried about your safety."

"I promise you, I will be fine, okay?"

When I spoke my mind, Jerry's expression softened. He wiped my tears with his thumb, coaxing softly, "Why are you still like when you were a kid, crying so easily? I really can't stand seeing you cry. How about this, whenever you want to cry, just bite me?"

With that, he extended his wrist to my mouth.

I glared at him. "I'm not a puppy."

"Alright, alright, you're not." Jerry sighed helplessly, then got to the point. "We were right. Cecil is indeed the mastermind, and the antidote is in his hands."

I suddenly gripped Jerry's hand tightly.

Jerry comforted me, "I've already sent people to find the antidote. If they can't find it, we'll have to try another way."

"Jerry, don't use force. Cecil..."

Jerry pressed his lips, interrupting me, "Afraid I'll hurt him?"

I sighed, "I'm worried about you. The Lewis family has a complicated background, and I doubt many of their people are difficult to deal with."

Jerry's background was good, but in the past, it wouldn't be an exaggeration to say he grew up stepping over corpses.

He never showed mercy to his enemies.

Cecil was a thorn in Jerry's side that he had long wanted to yank out.

But taking him down would mean a whole lot of pain and blood, and Jerry might not come out of it unscathed.

Plus, the Lewis family's current clean image was just a front, hiding their shady dealings.

I used to think Cecil was a decent guy who wouldn't cross any moral lines. Now, I couldn't help but worry.

I bit my lip. "I don't want you to get hurt."

Jerry's eyes softened, and he flashed that charming smile of his.

He was clearly happy but played it cool, saying, "So you're worried about me. I thought you cared about Cecil."

I was truly at a loss.

Jerry finally managed to lift my troubled mood.

I glanced at the still unconscious Claire and asked, "How confident are you?"

Jerry held my hand, a slight smile on his lips, exuding confidence. "I always have a hundred percent confidence in what I do."

People often said Jerry was arrogant, but I knew he wasn't. He had the skills to back it up.

I said, "Promise me, you must get the antidote without getting hurt."

"Okay."

In the afternoon, Jerry went to work.

As soon as he left, Elissa showed up.

I was puzzled. "Is there something up with ElevateJoy?"

"No." Elissa waved a finger in front of me. "I'm here on someone's behalf."

I got it. "He asked you to keep me company?"

That "he" naturally referred to Jerry.

"Exactly!" Elissa snapped her fingers and flopped onto the couch. "You don't need to think about anything now. Just take care of Claire. I'll handle ElevateJoy for you."

I tossed a bottle of water and a pomegranate to Elissa. "I trust you completely."

I sat down beside her and chatted with her.

When I mentioned I had gone to the hospital for a check-up, she stopped peeling the pomegranate, both surprised and delighted. "You're really pregnant?"

I nodded, and Elissa quickly wiped her hands with a tissue and eagerly placed her hand on my belly.

"Let me say hello to it."

I couldn't help but laugh. "It's just a embryo right now, okay?"

"Alright, alright."

Elissa touched my belly for a while, then withdrew her hand and suddenly got serious. "The mastermind hasn't been found yet, and Claire... You must be careful. Just tell me about the pregnancy, don't spread it around."

I pushed the half-peeled pomegranate into her hand and nodded. "I see. I have to protect the baby."

As I spoke, I couldn't help but lower my eyes. "Besides, we've already found the mastermind."

"Who is it? Someone close to you?"

I replied, "Yes."

Elissa frowned. "Really?"

I nodded, looking at her. "It's Cecil."

"Cecil!" Elissa was dumbfounded. After thinking for a moment, she still couldn't believe it and confirmed with me, "Are you sure?"

"Yes, I'm sure."

Though I had accepted the fact, my mood was still heavy as I repeated, "It's really Cecil."

Elissa was stunned. "Why would he poison Claire? Is he crazy?"

I smiled bitterly. "He's probably trying to threaten me with the antidote."

Elissa was still confused.

After a while, she asked, "Cecil wants to be with you?"

I nodded.

Elissa was silent for a moment, but she didn't seem too surprised. "I always felt he hadn't given up on you. I just didn't anticipate him being so persistent about it."

"What do you think?" she asked.
