Chapter 256: High Return on Investment

Even though I had thought about it, I still felt uneasy.

If I found her, would it be like I imagined?

She might have settled down, started a family, had kids, and was living a happy life. My sudden appearance could be like a rock thrown into her calm pond.

Plus, I lost the necklace two years ago.

Finding her would be like looking for a needle in a haystack.

Madison suddenly offered, "I can help you, either publicly or privately, whichever you prefer."

I was surprised. "Really?"

"Of course." Madison nodded, glancing at Sarah, who was making juice in the kitchen. Her eyes were filled with gentle, obvious maternal love. "If someone had helped Sarah earlier, maybe I could have reunited with her sooner."

Hearing this, I couldn't help but doubt whether Sarah was really Madison's daughter.

Two years ago, she had been swindling the Harris family.

Now, she could be deceiving Madison here.

Madison didn't hide anything from me, her smile faded; tinged with a bit of sadness. "Yes, she was switched just two days after she was born."

I was shocked. "Who switched her?"

"I still haven't found out," Madison sighed.

I asked softly, "What about the child you were given?"

"It was a stillborn."

I was stunned for a moment.

Then Madison spoke with self-reproach, "Later on, some things happened at home; I left Maple Valley and went to Whisper City to develop my career. If I had known earlier that Sarah was switched, I would never have left Maple Valley and would have done everything to find her."

I comforted her, "It's not your fault. The blame lies with the person who switched the children."

"Alright, enough about me. At least Sarah and I have reunited."

Madison smiled, somewhat relieved, and said, "Let's talk about you. Is your family from Maple Valley or Jacquar?"

I pursed my lips. "Maple Valley. The Harris family from Maple Valley."

Madison's glass cup fell to the ground, shattering into pieces, tea splashing everywhere. She was a bit flustered as she confirmed, "The Harris family? One of the four major families in Maple Valley?"

I nodded. "Yes."

"Is your father Larry?"

"Yes, he is." I couldn't help but ask, "Do you know us?"

"No!" Madison answered decisively, suddenly squatting down to clean up the floor.

But somehow, she cut her finger.

I quickly grabbed a few tissues to press on her wound. "Do you have iodine and band-aids at home?"

"No need." Madison suddenly became distant, stepping back a few steps. "It's getting late; you should go home. I'll let you know after I try on the dress."

I felt puzzled but knew better than to push. "Alright, I'll head out."

Just as I was about to leave, I looked at her again. "By the way, Ms. Ortiz, there's something I think I should tell you."

"Go ahead."

I hesitated before speaking, "Two years ago, Sarah once..."

"Ms. Royston!" Sarah came over with two glasses of juice, handing one to me with a smile. "Were you about to tell my mom how we met two years ago?"

Then, she handed the other glass to Madison, sweetly saying, "Mom, this is for you!"

I smiled. "Yes."

"If my mom is interested, I can tell her myself." Sarah blinked, leaning on Madison's shoulder, joking, "Ms. Royston, don't take away my chance to chat with my mom."

At this point, I couldn't say much more as an outsider.

Plus, after Madison learned I was from the Harris family, she seemed a bit distant.

She might not believe me or start doubting Sarah, her "biological daughter."

I placed the juice on the table and picked up my bag. "Ms. Ortiz, sorry for bothering you today."

After Sarah left the living room, Madison finally relaxed.

The hatred in her heart surged again.

But calming down, Madison felt something was off. She picked up her phone and called Juniper.

"Juniper, can you help me check if there was any grudge between Sarah and Hope two years ago?"

From the way Hope looked earlier, it didn't seem like she just wanted to chat casually.

It seemed more like she wanted to remind her of something.

"Sure," Juniper agreed quickly, then curiously asked, "What's going on? Why do you suddenly want to check this?"

"Not sure yet."

Madison couldn't say for sure and continued, "Also, check when Hope's birthday is."

Madison couldn't figure out the connection for now.

But her intuition told her to check.

Juniper was silent for a moment, then replied, "I've already checked that. It's the same day as Sarah's."

Juniper would first check the basic information of anyone who might have deep contact with Madison.

Madison was stunned. "The same day?"

"Yes."

Madison's mind descended into further disarray, and she suddenly said, "Then check which hospital she was born in."

"She's from Velvet City. Why check that?"

Madison shook her head. "No. Her adoptive parents are from Velvet City, but she was born in Maple Valley."

Madison's tone became serious. "Juniper. She's Larry's daughter!"

In the evening, at the Hammer family manor.

The Hammer family's gatherings were lively as usual.

Jerry braked sharply, his black Pagani drifting to a stop at the door.

He seemed aggressive.

As he got out of the car and appeared in the first-floor hall, the harmonious atmosphere shattered.

Everyone had different ideas.

Grace was the happiest, grabbing Jerry's ear. "Jerry, you finally come home!"

"Grace!" Jerry smiled, glancing casually at Austin and Carlos, and deliberately said, "Some folks might not be too thrilled about seeing me return."

Austin was displeased. "What do you mean? If you want to go home, who would stop you?"

Jerry raised an eyebrow, looking at Carlos, and said lazily, "Since it's my home, I can tell him to get lost, right?"

Although Jerry was set up and almost lost his life, and this was his first time home in two years, it seemed like he still ruled the house, as arrogant and domineering as ever.

Carlos adjusted his glasses, saying casually, "Jerry, we're all Hammers. Why make things so ugly?"

Jerry ignored him, only talking to Austin, "If he leaves, I can revive the Hammer Group's AI project."

In other words, with Carlos being out, the Hammer family could save billions of dollars!

It was a profitable deal for Austin.

After all, Carlos was just a child of a mistress, easily dispensable.

Unexpectedly, Austin snorted, "How would you revive it? Besides, Carlos already has a way to continue the project."

Jerry smirked, "What way?"

Carlos spoke directly, "Cooperating with the RF Group. I imagine Mr. Valence wants to kill you more than anyone right now."

After all, stealing someone's wife was akin to a punch in the gut.

Christopher couldn't possibly swallow that insult.
