Chapter 10: Don't Want To
Charles cracked his eyes open, watching her long lashes flutter like crazy just inches away.
He tightened his grip around her waist without even thinking.
Anna tried to push him away, her hands pressing against his chest. But Charles didn't budge, holding her tight and not letting go.
It wasn't until tears started to well up in her eyes that Charles finally loosened his grip a bit.
Charles' deep eyes locked onto hers, filled with a thousand unspoken words, a bottomless well of emotions pulling her in. He lowered his head and kissed her tanned neck, his voice low and raspy.
"Babe, I'm starving."
"Then go eat."
A smirk tugged at Charles's lips as he finally let her go.
Anna practically bolted out of the kitchen.
After dinner, Charles scooped Anna up and headed straight upstairs to the main bedroom.
The next day.
When Anna woke up, it was already past nine.
Dragging her sore body, she thought, thank goodness she didn't have to work these two days; otherwise, with Charles's endless lovemaking, she might just drop dead.
After getting dressed, the first thing Anna did was rummage through her bag for the pills she bought yesterday.
Just as she popped one out and was about to take it, the door suddenly swung open. Charles walked in.
When he saw the small white pill in her hand, something flickered in his eyes.
"Not feeling well?" he asked, sounding casual.
Anna didn't hide it and said straight up, "Birth control pill."
Charles had already guessed it. He walked up to her, glanced at the pill, and then suddenly looked up and asked, "Don't you want kids?"
Anna didn't expect that question. Given their situation, were they really ready for kids?
Anna didn't answer but threw the question back at him, "Do you want kids?"
Seeing her swallow the pill without hesitation, the warmth in Charles's eyes cooled a bit. He looked away and said, "No."
As Anna was about to leave with her phone, Charles suddenly called out to her. "Anna."
She turned around, about to ask what was up. Charles, who had been standing by the bed, suddenly stepped forward, grabbed her chin, and kissed her.
This time, his actions were rough and a bit angry.
It wasn't until the bitterness in her mouth spread through both their mouths that he slowly stopped.
"Don't take this pill again. I'll handle the contraception."
"Okay."
Even the best birth control pills have serious side effects.
Being a medical professional, she knew the consequences of long-term use.
Charles held the back of her head, kissing her lightly on the corner of her lips.
It wasn't until the coldness in him faded that he let her go.
"Take this."
Anna looked at the black card he handed over but didn't take it. "I have money; I don't need this."
Charles grabbed her hand and forced the card into it.
"As your husband, it's my job to take care of you. From now on, buy whatever you want with this card, no limit. The password is our wedding date."
Looking at the black card in her hand, she joked, "Aren't you afraid I'll spend all your money?"
Charles wrapped his arm around her waist, running his fingers through her soft, smooth hair, and said with a smile, "Your husband's loaded, Mrs. Percy. You better try hard."
At breakfast, Charles told Anna they were going to visit the Percy family estate today.
Hearing this, Anna was stunned for a couple of seconds. "Going to the estate today? So suddenly?"
Charles handed her a cup of warm milk and teased, "The wedding was sudden, and my mom can't wait to meet her daughter-in-law. But don't worry, my parents are super chill; they'll definitely like you."
Anna wasn't worried about that.
It's just that she hadn't interacted with elders in a long time.
Especially with a prestigious family like the Percy family, Anna felt a bit unprepared.
However, her tense emotions didn't last long, as Alice's continuous phone calls quickly dispelled them.
Maybe imagining Anna's nervousness on her first visit, Alice started calling Charles repeatedly at 9:30, asking where they were.
At that time, Charles and Anna hadn't even finished breakfast. Answering the call, Charles said discontentedly, "Mom, why are you rushing? Don't you know newlyweds wake up late?"
This statement not only left Alice speechless for a while but also almost made Anna choke.
Hearing a few suppressed coughs over the phone, Alice gritted her teeth and said to Charles, "Give the phone to my daughter-in-law! Hearing your voice just makes me angry!"
