Chapter 37 Not Jealous

5:30 PM.

Anna popped into Tina and Thalia's room, dropped some quick instructions, and then bounced out, ready to clock out.

Just as the door clicked shut behind her, it swung open again. Next thing she knew, a cool hand grabbed her wrist.

"Clocking out?" Charles asked.

Anna, trying to play it cool, tried to shake him off and keep walking. But Charles wasn't having it. He slid his hand down to interlock his fingers with hers, his grip firm and steady.

"Babe, let's head home together," Charles said.

The fourth floor was the VIP ward of Radiant Life Hospital, and the hallway was pretty dead, with just a few folks passing by.

Anna lowered her voice as they walked, "Don't you need to stay overnight?"

Charles squeezed her fingertips and chuckled, "Anya, you jealous?"

Anna shot him a blank look, "Not jealous."

When they hit the parking lot, Anna made a beeline for her car, but Charles steered her towards his Koenigsegg.

"I drove," Charles said.

Before Anna could argue, Charles had already nudged her into the passenger seat and leaned in to buckle her up. He stayed close, his cool fingers lifting her chin to make her look up.

The next moment, his hot breath was all over her.

Two minutes later, Anna turned her head, dodging his lingering kiss.

Charles's eyes were dark with desire, like a bottomless pit ready to swallow her whole.

Suppressing his emotions, Charles walked around the car and slid into the driver's seat. As he started the engine, he grinned lazily, "Finally got you off work, no time to waste on the road."

The twenty-minute drive from Radiant Life Hospital to Regal Retreat was cut down to ten. As soon as he parked in Regal Retreat's private lot and killed the engine, Charles pulled Anna into another kiss.

2:00 AM.

Charles carried Anna to the shower, then tucked her into bed. He threw on a bathrobe, ignoring the mess in the room, and picked up a half-exposed business card from the scattered clothes.

Glancing at the number, he slipped the card back into the pocket.

7:00 AM.

Charles whipped up breakfast and woke Anna, who was still out cold. She groggily turned over, frowning and mumbling, "Don't bother me; my alarm hasn't gone off yet."

Charles chuckled, glancing at the clock, "Anya, it's 7:03. I turned off your alarm."

Anna's eyes snapped open. She grabbed her phone to check the time. Seeing the glaring numbers on the screen, all her sleepiness vanished.

"Why'd you turn off my alarm?" Anna asked.

"I wanted you to sleep a bit longer," Charles said.

Anna scrambled to get ready. When she got out of bed after getting dressed, her legs felt like jelly, and she almost face-planted.

Charles caught her. Holding the wobbly Anna, he squatted down to help her with her shoes, then carried her to the bathroom.

Charles plopped Anna on the sink, handed her a toothbrush with water, and while she brushed her teeth, he brought over the facial cleanser and other stuff she needed, making it easy for her to wash up.

Even though they woke up late, with Charles's help, Anna got ready in no time. After breakfast, it was only 7:35 when Charles drove Anna to the hospital.

"There's still time, you can catch a few more Z's," Charles said, one hand on the steering wheel, glancing at Anna in the passenger seat.

Anna was beat.

Having slept less than five hours for two nights straight, she felt like she was on the brink of collapse.
