Chapter 97 He Would Gradually Remove Michael from Her Heart

Anna plopped down on the chair in front of the table, eyeing the neatly arranged rabbit meat on the plate. "I just saw a big bamboo forest behind the villa. Are there a bunch of wild rabbits and chickens in there too?"

Charles smirked, "They're not wild."

Anna raised an eyebrow, "Huh?"

Charles leaned back, still smirking, "I had them raised here just for you."

He didn't just prepare the animals; he set up this whole villa and the island for her.

Back in middle school, Charles overheard her saying she loved the sea.

That offhand comment stuck with him.

After taking over the Percy family business, he bought this island and oversaw the construction of the seaside villa.

Charles never thought he'd get the chance to bring her here to watch the sea together.

But fate had other plans.

The Anna he had longed for was finally back in his life.

During the eight years Anna was with Michael, Charles had thought about just taking her away.

But then what?

He saw how much she depended on and admired Michael.

Snatching her away wouldn't win her heart; it would just make her resent him.

As the heir to the Percy family, people said he had a heart of stone.

He seemed easygoing and affectionate, but deep down, he was cold-hearted.

But they didn't know that a long time ago, a little girl had quietly taken over his heart.

Watching the woman he loved smile at another man made Charles jealous.

Countless nights, he thought about bringing her back from abroad, locking her away where she could only see him.

But Charles knew Anna too well. If he took her by force, he'd not only fail to win her heart, but he'd also destroy her smile.

More than jealousy, he couldn't stand seeing Anna unhappy and forcing a smile every day.

He wanted her to live happily, enjoying each day.

Anna had already been through too much pain and hardship.

He wanted to keep that genuine smile on her face forever.

Because of this, all these years, even though he missed her like crazy, he only watched over her from afar.

Before Anna came back, Charles never hoped to marry her.

He had watched Anna fall in love with Michael step by step.

He saw her feelings for Michael change from dependence to liking to love.

Eight years ago, he thought missing her once meant missing her forever.

He regretted it, felt sorrow, but he was powerless.

He had missed the best chance, missed the most important time to be by her side.

He thought he'd never have her again.

But then, it turned out Michael was only with her because of some old grudge.

Since fate brought Anna back to him, this time, he wasn't letting go.

No matter why she came to him, he'd slowly erase Michael from her heart and carve his own place there.

After lunch, Anna let out a small burp.

She never knew a simple roasted rabbit could taste so good, way better than any fancy dish.

Seeing her still-hungry eyes, Charles took the rest of the rabbit meat away and said, "Save some for tonight. Eating too much now will give you a stomachache."

Anna looked away, a bit disappointed.

Charles set the plate aside and took her hand, leading her to the beach.

Half an hour later, they were back in the hall.

"Come here, Anya; I'll teach you to play the piano," Charles said, heading to the piano by the big window.

Anna glanced at the piano and couldn't help but think of the one at the Regal Retreat.

Her eyes flickered, and she quickly looked away.

Seeing her avoidant eyes, Charles easily guessed what she was thinking.

He casually played a few notes, letting the melody fill the room.

Thinking of the piano at the Regal Retreat, he teased, "Wanna play by yourself, or should I join you?"

Anna pretended not to get his meaning.

She took a couple of steps back and turned to go upstairs. "I slept late last night, and I'm really tired. I'll take a nap. You play by yourself."

On this island, it was just her and Charles, no one else.

She figured it was best to keep her distance.

Watching her almost run away, Charles raised an eyebrow and smiled, not stopping her.

Anna just wanted to avoid the piano downstairs, but lying on the bed, she actually fell asleep.

When she woke up, it was already dark outside.

Through the window, she saw the stars shining unusually bright.

After a simple dinner, Charles grabbed a thick blanket and took Anna to the beach where they spent the morning.

On a big mat, they half-lay, looking up at the brilliant stars.

The night was clear, with the hazy moonlight casting a soft glow on the ground.

Charles held Anna in his arms, seemingly looking at the stars, but really, all his attention was on her.

She looked at the stars, and he looked at her.
