Chapter 106 Austin Takes Tina In
The sharp sting on his face made him let go of Tina and grab his bleeding mouth.
Seizing the moment, Austin yanked Tina behind him and took down the crazed fan, twisting his arms behind his back and dragging him to the nearest police station.
Seeing Austin's move, the guy freaked out.
He kept babbling that he just wanted to get close to Tina and didn't mean any harm.
Noticing the scratches on Tina's wrist and jaw, a cold glint flashed in Austin's eyes. He ignored the crazed fan and tossed him into the police station.
After filing the report, Austin saw Tina was clearly shaken. He pressed his lips together and took her straight to his place.
For work convenience, Austin lived in a three-bedroom, two-living room apartment. It wasn't huge, but the whole community was mostly detectives and their families.
It had the best privacy and security around.
Austin set Tina up in the guest room. Opening the door, he said, "You can crash here tonight. Tomorrow morning, I'll find you a new place."
Tina glanced around the room but stayed quiet.
Austin added, "This room has its own bathroom and shower, so you don't need to go out."
Tina nodded.
Having dealt with that deranged fan, she was utterly exhausted. After all this chaos, she felt dizzy, and her head was pounding like it would explode. She just wanted to collapse on the bed and sleep.
Austin looked at her and then stepped out of the room. Before closing the door, he said, "Lock the door and get some sleep. I need to go out for a bit, but I'll be back soon."
"Okay," Tina's voice was hoarse.
She cleared her throat and was about to grab her phone and lie down when the door, not fully closed, was pushed open again by Austin.
Austin handed her a disposable cup filled with warm water. "Drink some water and then sleep."
Tina thanked him and took the cup.
At this moment, Tina seemed less vibrant and lively than usual, looking more like a weary and vulnerable little animal.
Austin closed the door for her and then left the house with his car keys.
An hour later, he returned with two large bags filled with daily necessities.
In his other hand, he held a takeout dinner.
He placed the lunchbox on the table and, carrying those two bags of daily necessities, knocked on Tina's door.
Tina had slept for an hour and looked more refreshed.
She opened the door, ready to say something, but Austin handed her the two big bags.
"I don't have any women's stuff here, so I picked some up for you. Use these for now, and if you need anything else, just let me know. I'll get someone to grab it for you," he said.
Tina took the bags, a bit dazed, and was about to look up at Austin, but he had already turned and walked away.
She took the bags to the bed and rummaged through them.
There were towels, toothbrushes, skincare products, a change of clothes, and other essentials. Pretty much everything she might need was there.
Digging deeper, she even found a pack of sanitary pads.
Tina smiled, realizing that although Austin seemed cold, he was actually very thoughtful.
With these items, she could easily stay here for a month, let alone one night.
Outside, Austin had already set up the food.
While setting the table, he called out to Tina, "Go wash your hands and come eat."
Tina washed her hands and sat at the table. She teased Austin, "Austin, with all these preparations, are you planning to keep me here long-term?"
Austin glanced at her indifferently. "You're overthinking it."
Then he added, "I heard that celebrities like you have particular lifestyles. I didn't want you to bother me in the middle of the night."
It was better to prepare everything at once so he could get a good night's sleep.
Tina smiled.
Thinking about the well-prepared daily necessities, she asked softly, "Austin, you're so attentive. Have you had a girlfriend before?"
Austin looked up at her, then he glanced at the untouched food in front of her. "Eat up. I'm only keeping you for one night. Tomorrow morning, I'll help you find a place."
Tina responded with an "Oh."
The next morning, Austin didn't take her to find a place because Tina started running a high fever in the middle of the night.
By the time Austin discovered it the next morning, she was already delirious with a flushed face.
Without hesitation, Austin wrapped her in a blanket, carried her, and rushed her to the hospital as quickly as possible.
In the Radiant Life Hospital patient room, Anna briefly recorded Tina's condition in her notebook.
She said, "Miss Green had a cold a few days ago. Combined with the shock and lack of rest, it led to a high fever."
A nurse came in with a cart to give Tina an IV.
Anna adjusted the IV drip speed, nodded to Austin, and then left the room.
Austin followed her out and called out to Anna, who was about ten feet ahead. "Dr. Howard."
