Chapter 90 Afraid Anya Will Leave Me
Charles slipped back into the Regal Retreat at 3:30 AM.
First, he hit the shower in the room next door, then tiptoed into the main bedroom.
Anna was still sprawled out on the big bed, just like when he left.
As he slid under the covers, Anna, who had been lying on her back, suddenly rolled over.
Half-asleep, she reached out and hugged him.
Charles wrapped his arms around her, gently patting her back, coaxing her to keep sleeping.
"Where'd you go?" Anna mumbled, eyes closed and lips slightly pouting.
Charles's hand paused for a second, then he resumed his gentle pats.
He kissed her forehead and whispered, "Couldn't sleep. Went out to the yard for some air."
Anna, still half-asleep, felt the coolness of his body and asked, "Why couldn't you sleep?"
She snuggled closer, tightening her grip around his waist.
Charles looked down at her, his hand gently stroking her hair. His voice was deep and tender. "Afraid you'd leave me."
Anna might not have fully processed his words.
She naturally responded, "I won't. Don't think about it; go to sleep."
With that, she drifted back into her dreams, her breathing slow and even again.
Charles kissed her forehead.
Looking at her peaceful sleeping face, he whispered softly, "Anya, I mean it. No matter what, you can't leave me. You absolutely can't leave me, Anya. Whatever you want, I can give it to you as long as you stay by my side."
From the middle of the night, Anna didn't sleep well.
In her dreams, she was constantly being chased by a fierce wolf.
And she couldn't outrun it. In the end, it pinned her to the ground.
Just as the wolf was about to bite her, Anna suddenly woke up.
She opened her eyes abruptly and met Charles's smiling gaze.
"Awake, Anya?" Charles said.
Anna patted her head, recalling the endless chase by the wolf in her dream, still feeling a bit shaken.
After calming down, she remembered talking to Charles last night.
Sitting up, she asked, "Did you go out last night?"
Charles's eyes flickered slightly as he handed her clothes to her.
Casually, he said, "Went out to the yard for some air in the middle of the night."
Anna took the clothes and said, "Oh."
She looked up at his usual indifferent expression and nodded.
Last night, she seemed to hear Charles using a very vulnerable and pleading tone, asking her not to leave him.
But now, he looked as indifferent and lazy as ever.
Anna thought last night must have been a dream.
Someone like Charles would never use that pleading tone.
After breakfast, Anna was about to head to the hospital when she saw Henry walking in with some documents.
Charles took them, and Henry said, "Mr. Percy, the plane is ready. When do we depart?"
Anna turned and asked, "Going on a business trip again?"
Charles lazily lifted his eyelids, "Yeah, the branch office has been restless; I need to go again."
He was supposed to leave yesterday afternoon.
The plan was to go to the neighboring city after the meeting at Apex Holdings Group.
But when Anna's call came in, Charles postponed the meeting and the trip.
Now that Mandy's matter was resolved, the business trip had to be rescheduled.
"I usually see you quite relaxed; why so many business trips lately?" Anna said.
Hearing this, Charles tossed the documents aside, walked over to Anna, and hugged her.
His eyes were smiling, "You can't bear to be without me? Why don't we go together?"
Anna patted his hand, "I'm not off today."
Charles followed up, "So if you were off, you would go with me?"
"I wouldn't be of any help." She pulled his arm away. "Alright, it's getting late. You should go. I need to get to work, too."
As she turned, Charles held her hand, leading her outside. "I'll take you to the hospital first."
Anna looked back at Henry, "Aren't you waiting to board? Don't be late."
Charles nonchalantly said, "Let them wait. Henry arranged for our Percy family's private jet; everything runs on our schedule."
Anna thought, 'Money talks, huh?'
At this moment, Henry, who hadn't slept all night, thought, 'After this business trip, I must apply for a double year-end bonus!'
