Chapter 48: All I Want Is Your Body

If Aurora were here and caught wind of what Charles just said, she'd probably lose it right then and there!

Charles didn't even blink as he spilled his guts to her. "When we tied the knot, I made it clear, all I want is your body. Anya, I'm a simple guy. I don't give a damn about those mushy feelings of love. What I want, what I'm into, is just your body."

He locked eyes with her, the dim light hiding the emotions swirling like a storm in his gaze.

He went on, "Bringing you food? That was just to help you bounce back quicker."

As he spoke, he whispered something in her ear, making her cheeks turn red.

Anna's doubts from the past few days vanished in an instant because of his words. She turned her head to dodge the warm breath he was blowing near her ear.

She must be out of her mind! How could she ever doubt if Charles liked her? With a guy as laid-back as him, how could he have real feelings?

Plus, with all those rumors about her and Michael, any guy would be bothered. Especially someone as high-profile as Charles. Even if he had feelings, they couldn't be for her.

Realizing this, Anna suddenly felt a wave of relief.

She and Charles were good as they were, not talking about love, not talking about feelings, each getting what they needed, no hidden agendas, and being straight with each other about what they wanted.

Charles held her close, and he could feel her body suddenly relax.

Knowing she bought his story, Charles looked into her eyes and added, "If you still don't believe me, how about I bring in a few of my old rumored girlfriends, and you can ask them youself how I treated them?"

"No need." Anna shook her head quickly, "There's no need at all."

Charles pressed on, "Then will you still avoid me?"

Anna forced a smile, "No, I won't."

Autumn nights come fast. There were no city lights here, no endless streams of cars. Just the scattered streetlights in the tent camp and the quietly hanging stars and moon in the sky.

The suburban night was calm and peaceful.

Charles's gaze was fixed on the person in his arms. His voice was low, like a lover's whisper. "Anya, I miss you."

After dinner, Charles didn't hesitate to crawl into Anna's tent.

Since it was a rescue site, hundreds of tents had already been set up on the vast grassland. To make the rescue easier, the tents were packed in tight.

A bunch of folks, after finishing dinner, were hanging out outside their tents and naturally saw Charles trailing Anna into hers.

The latest gossip was still fresh in everyone's minds. Seeing this, they couldn't help but start whispering about the drama between these people.

Ethan, who had just finished tending to the injured, walked over. He snapped a pic of Charles going into Anna's tent and paired it with a photo of Charles making his bold claim earlier that evening, then sent them to the group chat with Sawyer, Mark, and a few others.

He added a comment: [Check out our boy Charles. He's got that swagger down!]

Then he typed another line, [If Charles doesn't have any funny business with that girl, I'll eat my hat!]

The group chat went silent for two minutes.

Then, Mark's message popped up first, [Ethan, did you forget Charles is in this group too?]

Ethan frowned, thinking about whether to delete those messages.

In his excitement, he forgot to block Charles.

But when Ethan tried to retract those messages, he realized it had already been over two minutes, and he couldn't!

Inside the tent.

Charles squeezed onto Anna's tiny mat. Since it was a single-person tent, the mat was super small. It was a tight squeeze for two people to sleep.

Anna tried to push him out, "Charles, Dr. Collins got you a big tent. Go sleep in your own tent."

Charles held her close, and they lay down on the mat together.

"How can a married couple sleep in separate beds?" Charles said.

Anna replied, "This isn't a bed, and besides, this tent is so small, there's no room for two people!"

Charles chuckled softly. Then he tightened his arm around her waist, pressing their bodies close together.

"See, this works just fine," Charles said.

After a couple of seconds, Charles added with a smirk, "I think the bed in the Regal Retreat could also be replaced. If you sleep in my arms, we don't need a double bed. A single bed would be enough."

The tent wasn't soundproof, and the murmurs of people talking outside kept drifting in. Anna lay there with her eyes closed for a long time, unable to fall asleep.

Charles gently patted her back like he was soothing a child to sleep.

"Anya, can't sleep?" Charles asked.
