Chapter 103 Don't Feel Sorry for Him

The next morning, after a restless night at the old house, Cedric and Alice couldn't wait any longer and showed up at Regal Retreat just after 8 AM.

Charles and Anna had just wrapped up breakfast.

Alice barged into the hall, nudging Charles aside, and plopped down on the sofa, grabbing Anna's hand.

"Anya, spill the beans. Are you pregnant?" Alice asked, trying to keep her excitement in check.

Anna glanced at Charles, who looked a bit miffed, and nodded, "Yeah, I am."

Alice turned to Cedric, "Quick, get those books."

A minute later, Cedric came back with a huge stack of books.

Anna took a quick look and guessed there were about twenty or thirty books.

As the books landed on the coffee table, Anna looked at them and asked Alice, "Mom, what's with all these books?"

"Parenting books." Seeing Anna reach for a book, Alice subtly blocked her hand.

Then she turned to look at Charles, who was sitting on another sofa, her gaze shifting from doting affection to disdain and dissatisfaction. "What are you standing there for? Get over here!"

Cedric sat down on the sofa next to Charles and, while sipping tea, whispered a reminder, "What are you spacing out for? Didn't you hear your mom?"

Charles, who was the one who got Anna pregnant and had put in all the effort, was feeling a bit left out. Shouldn't Alice be a bit nicer to him now?

Why did it seem like Alice disliked him even more after Anna got pregnant?

With a bunch of questions swirling in his head, Charles sat down on the other side of Anna.

He lazily glanced at the stack of books on the coffee table. "Mom, what's all this about?"

Alice grabbed a few books and tossed them into Charles's lap.

Then she pointed to the stack on the coffee table, "See these? They're all for you."

Expressionless, Charles flipped through a couple of pages and looked up at Alice.

Before he could say anything, Alice continued, "These were your dad's prized collection back in the day. Now, every single one of them is yours. You're so lucky."

Charles: "Lucky for what?"

Before Alice could respond, Cedric put down his teacup and chimed in, "These books cover everything from pregnancy symptoms to newborn care. Now, you don't have to pick out books yourself; your mom and I have brought you all the essential ones. Isn't that lucky for you?"

Glancing at Charles, Alice added, "Charles, remember this: when a woman gives birth, it's like walking on the edge of life and death. As a husband, since you can't share the hardships of pregnancy with Anya, you should start taking care of all her daily needs from today."

"And these books," Alice pointed to the stack, "I'll give you two days to memorize them all!"

Placing the few books he was holding back on the coffee table, Charles took one of Anna's hands and gently played with it in his palm.

He lazily replied, "Mom, do you really think I'm a scanner? How can I memorize so many books in two days?"

Alice's words were sharp, "Do you still want a child?"

Charles: "Of course I do."

Alice's voice was firm, "Then memorize them."

Alice couldn't be bothered to deal with him anymore. She turned her attention back to Anna.

After carefully asking about Anna's appetite over the past two days, Alice pulled out two cookbooks from the stack of pregnancy books and tossed them to Charles. "When Anya loses her appetite, you can pick recipes from these cookbooks to make for her. Remember, no repeats."

By this point, Charles was already numb.

He took the two cookbooks and set them aside, then heard Alice say to Anna, "Anya, I have experience with this. Pregnancy cravings are the most unpredictable. Whatever you want to eat, tell Charles to buy it. And don't worry about whether it's day or night. Even if it's in the middle of the night, let him get it. There are fewer cars on the road at night anyway, so don't feel bad for him."
