Chapter 51: Does Charles Like You?

An hour later, rescue trucks started rolling in one by one. The folks who got saved earlier and patched up were getting moved to nearby hospitals.

The crew tagged along with the rescue trucks back to Crystal City. But Tina? Nah, she didn't go with them.

She waited till Austin was out of sight, then found a SWAT guy and got the lowdown on where Austin's unit was stationed.

The landslide was a big deal, so a bunch of reporters showed up to cover it. Aurora and her buddies from the newspaper were there too. After wrapping up her work, Aurora noticed Tina's eyes were glued to Austin.

Aurora found Anna, who had just finished bandaging someone, and whispered, "Anya, isn't Tina supposed to be with Mr. Percy? Why's she all about another dude today?"

Anna put the gauze back in the kit, glanced at Tina, then at Austin.

Seeing Anna didn't react, Aurora kept going, "Aren't you worried about your husband?"

Anna grabbed two water bottles, tossed one to Aurora, twisted the cap, and said calmly, "Given my thing with Charles, do you think I have any right to butt into his and Tina's business?"

Aurora thought about it and realized she had a point.

Speaking of Charles, Aurora remembered something from a few days ago. "Anya, did you figure it out? Does Charles like you?"

Anna shook her head. "Don't sweat it. He and I get what we need. Beyond that, we don't mess with each other and definitely won't catch feelings."

Aurora nodded. "That's good. By the way, I heard from a colleague that Michael's here too. Seen him?"

Anna paused mid-drink, her face dimming, "No."

By evening, everyone trapped was rescued, and the medical crew was getting ready to leave. Charles had a private jet ready, so while everyone else left by car, he flew Anna out.

When they got to Regal Retreat, it was almost 9 PM. Charles was about to hug her, but Anna's face changed. She pushed him away and rushed to the bathroom.

Five minutes later, Anna came out, looking a bit pale.

"Charles, do we have any of those women's stuff?" Anna asked.

Charles was momentarily stunned but quickly got it. He pulled out a bunch of different brands of sanitary pads and tampons from a shelf in the wardrobe. He spread them out on the bed.

"Which one do you usually use?" he asked.

Anna looked at the nearly twenty packs, grabbed the nearest one, and quickly went back to the bathroom. When she came out again, Charles was putting the pads back in the cabinet.

"Anya, I've put them all here for you," he pointed to a cabinet, "so you can find them whenever you need them."

Anna nodded and, looking at the cabinet full of sanitary products, couldn't help but ask, "Why do you stock so many of these?"

Charles put the stuff away, walked over, and hugged her. His broad hand gently covered her lower abdomen.

"For you, in case I'm not home one day and you can't go out to buy them. Wouldn't that be a pain?" he replied.

After half a month of living together, Anna genuinely felt that although Charles seemed unreliable and indifferent to everything, when she really got to know him, she'd find he was very attentive. He thought of everything in life.

In this regard, she, as a woman, wasn't as good as him.

Because Anna had her period unexpectedly, all of Charles's romantic plans were scrapped. He made ginger tea for Anna and watched her drink it all before heading to the kitchen to whip up dinner.

Anna had dysmenorrhea, and during these days, she not only broke out in a cold sweat but also looked particularly pale and had no appetite. Charles cooked dinner to her usual tastes, avoiding any cold foods.

After personally feeding her dinner, he carried Anna back to the bedroom and lay down with her in his arms. His hand stayed on Anna's lower abdomen.

The warmth of his palm significantly eased her pain. Unknowingly, Anna closed her eyes and fell asleep.

Naturally, she didn't notice that after she fell asleep, Charles half-lay there, looking at her lower abdomen, his eyes growing darker.

After Anna was sound asleep, Charles quietly got out of bed.

To test whether the holes he had previously drilled were effective, he even tried using water. As expected, the holes were there.

It was just bad luck that she didn't get pregnant.
