Chapter 99 Anya, I Like You
Anna seemed a bit out of it.
She took a few seconds to respond after Charles asked his question.
Staring at the busy street outside, she absentmindedly touched her stomach.
Her red lips parted slightly, and she said, "Let's hit the pharmacy first."
Charles found a nearby pharmacy, grabbed a few pregnancy tests, and took Anna back to Regal Retreat.
Once inside, he handed her the tests. "Anya, go test. I'll get you some water."
Anna took the tests, hesitated for a moment, then headed to the bathroom.
As soon as she disappeared behind the door, Charles dashed upstairs to the main bedroom.
He swapped out all the condoms from the bedside table with the untampered ones he had prepared earlier.
After getting rid of the tampered ones, Charles poured a glass of warm water and waited outside the bathroom for Anna.
A little while later, the bathroom door opened.
Charles's eyes showed a mix of anticipation and nerves, his fingers gripping the water glass tightly.
"Well?" His voice was a bit shaky.
Anna handed him the pregnancy test.
Two lines.
Pregnant.
Seeing the two lines, Charles's tension melted away.
Trying to keep his excitement in check, he calmly handed Anna the water glass. "Here, Anya. You haven't had lunch yet."
Anna took the glass and sipped.
Her feelings were all over the place.
She couldn't wrap her head around having a baby so suddenly.
It was all happening too fast.
The news of the baby was a total surprise.
Suddenly facing the idea of a new life, she felt lost.
Seeing Anna with her head down, silent, Charles's heart clenched.
He couldn't help but think, if she didn't want this baby, what would he do?
Should he let her have an abortion or try to convince her to keep it?
Before he could figure it out, Anna looked up at him, a bit lost, and said, "Charles, I'm pregnant."
He could hear the unease and a bit of panic in her voice.
But thankfully, there was no disgust or rejection.
Charles led her to the sofa and had her sit down. He then knelt in front of her, holding her hand.
Looking into her confused eyes, he gently said, "Anya, let's have this baby, okay?"
Anna's eyelashes fluttered.
She looked at him, meeting his gaze.
Softly, she asked, "Do you want this baby?"
"Yes." He answered without hesitation.
Charles held her hands firmly. "Anya, this is our baby. I'm so excited for the baby to arrive. As your husband, I can't wait for us to have this child."
"Of course," he added quickly, "if you really don't want this baby, I'll respect your choice."
Anna couldn't quite figure out her feelings.
But she suddenly remembered when they got their marriage certificate; she had asked him if he wanted kids, and he said no. "When we got married, you didn't want kids. Why the change now?"
Charles gently hugged her. "Anya, I want a child with you."
Anna's eyes trembled, and her fingertips tightened involuntarily.
Just as she was about to speak, Charles said, "Anya, I can't wait for us to have a child. I also can't wait to spend the rest of my life happily with you. So, Anya, I want a child with you."
Anna found herself lost in his words, and after a few seconds, she asked, "Charles, have you really thought this through? Once this child is born, I might be 'Mrs. Percy' for the rest of my life."
Hearing this, Charles smiled softly and said, "Anya, if it's you, I'd be more than happy to have you as 'Mrs. Percy' forever."
"Why?" Anna asked instinctively.
This time, Charles looked straight into her eyes and replied, "Because I like you."
Deep emotions flickered in Anna's eyes.
Charles didn't let her look away. He wanted to lay it all out there, all his feelings and suppressed emotions. "Anya, I like you a lot. I want to spend my life with you and travel the world with you. Honestly, I never thought about divorce. I'm a selfish guy. Once I like someone, I don't want to let go. Anya, all these years, you're the only one I like, and you'll be the only one I love deeply for the rest of my life. So, Anya, think carefully about whether you want to have this child and keep our marriage for a lifetime."
Charles's sudden confession left Anna stunned.
She instinctively pulled her hand away from his, avoiding his intense gaze, and stood up to walk away. "Charles, it's too fast. I need to think about it."
Watching her disappear up the staircase, Charles stood up, his hands slowly clenching into fists.
His eyes showed a mix of determination and regret.
It was indeed too fast.
He had laid his feelings out there too quickly.
The sudden news of the baby had thrown him off balance.
Anna must have been scared by him.
What would she do now?
Would she avoid him again, just like last time, and not let him get close?
Charles felt very confused at the moment, but more than that, he was anxious about his inability to control the situation.
He could easily control the fate of many people.
But with her, it was different.
She always left him feeling lost.
At this moment, Anna sat on the edge of the bed in the bedroom, staring blankly at the floor.
Flashes of memories from getting the marriage certificate with Charles until now crossed her mind.
The news of the baby disrupted all her previous plans.
She had originally planned to divorce Charles and go back abroad, never to return once Michael and her parents' issues were resolved.
But now, what would she do with this baby?
And even without this baby, when the time came for her to leave, would Charles be willing to divorce and let her go?
This question had never crossed Anna's mind before.
In fact, she had subconsciously avoided thinking about whether she would develop feelings for Charles in their daily interactions.
And also avoided thinking about whether Charles would fall for her.
After experiencing Michael's betrayal and deceit, she dared not trust any feelings again.
But now, what would she do? Should she keep this baby? Or should she still casually mention divorce like she had a month ago?
