Chapter 101 Charles Clarifies Past Rumors to Anna
"Charles, why'd you call me over so urgently?" Tina asked, puzzled, standing at the door.
Charles was guiding Anna down the stairs, holding her hand and wrapping his arm around her waist like she was some kind of precious treasure.
From the top of the stairs to the last step, Charles didn't even glance at Tina.
All his focus was on Anna.
He was worried she might trip and fall.
Anna found his actions both funny and a bit annoying.
She couldn't help but wonder if he thought she was about to become disabled.
Charles's attitude was a bit much for her.
Tina looked at Charles with a complicated expression.
She felt like she shouldn't be there and should just turn around and leave to give the couple some space.
It wasn't until they reached the bottom of the stairs that Charles finally looked at Tina, like he was doing her a favor.
He gestured towards the sofa in the living room, indicating for her to sit down. "Miss Green, my wife wants to talk to you."
Anna wondered when she had said that.
What did she need to talk to Tina about?
Tina was just as confused.
The way he addressed her had changed.
Sure enough, married men instinctively avoided suspicion.
He used to call her "Tina," but now it was "Miss Green"?
Charles helped Anna sit on the sofa and looked up to see Tina still standing at the door, staring at him and Anna in shock.
Charles lowered his gaze and looked at Tina. "What? Is my sofa not good enough for you to sit on?"
"If you can't speak properly, just shut up!" She walked over and sat down opposite Anna.
Charles, on the other hand, sat next to Anna.
He draped an arm over the back of the sofa behind Anna, exuding a protective and affectionate demeanor.
Tina asked, "Why'd you call me over on such short notice?"
Charles lifted his eyelids and lazily replied, "To explain the rumors between you and me to my wife."
Before she could respond, Charles continued, "And to clarify it was you who approached me back then, asking me to be your cover."
It wasn't him who started the rumors with her.
Anna was equally bewildered.
Seeing both Anna and Tina looking at him, Charles innocently said to Anna, "Anya, don't look at me like that. Miss Green has the most to say about these rumors. Listen to what she has to say first."
Tina, being perceptive, understood the situation.
Although she didn't fully grasp Charles's intentions, seeing his interaction with Anna made everything clear.
Charles had finally reached the point of clarifying the past rumors to Anna.
Tina cleared her throat.
Suppressing the amusement in her voice, she tried to make her tone sound serious and credible. "Mrs. Percy, there was indeed a bit of a misunderstanding about the past."
Tina stopped calling Anna "Dr. Howard" and switched to "Mrs. Percy."
Even though she preferred "Dr. Howard," Charles's unfriendly stare made her go with the title he liked.
Tina continued, "There's really nothing between Charles and me. I'm from the Green family, and I've known Charles since we were kids. When I got into the entertainment industry, to avoid being taken advantage of, I asked Charles if we could pretend to be a couple. But Mrs. Percy, please don't get the wrong idea. There were just some baseless rumors about us, and in reality, there was nothing. Besides..."
Tina paused, her eyes showing a hint of genuine affection and shyness. "I have someone I truly like, and Mr. Percy's roguish nature is definitely not my type."
Charles said, "Alright, that's it. You can leave now."
Tina was speechless.
Charles was as ruthless as ever.
Poor Anna, being liked by him.
As soon as Tina left, a bunch of other women had also been rumored to be involved with Charles.
When they arrived at the Regal Retreat, they kept their eyes straight ahead. Unlike Tina, they didn't even get the chance to sit on the sofa and explain to Anna.
These women lined up at the door, one by one, like performers, walking up to Anna and detailing their "rumored past" with Charles.
They explained in detail what they had done during the time they were rumored to be involved with Charles.
Half an hour later, Anna, with a numb expression, slowly turned to look at Charles beside her.
Seeing her gaze, Charles immediately stood up. "Anya, are you hungry?"
He glanced regretfully at the clock in the lobby and helped Anna up, leading her to the dining room. "It's my fault, Anya. I forgot to let you eat something first."
He had been so focused on explaining the past that he forgot Anna hadn't had lunch yet.
Anna wasn't actually hungry; she was just bewildered by the long line of women.
Did Charles really summon all his rumored partners over the years?
Having explained the rumors, the women fled Regal Retreat, a place they'd never be able to afford again.
The women who hadn't had the chance to explain all lowered their eyes, not daring to harbor any ill intentions in front of the Percy family's legitimate wife.
Especially since Charles was not someone to be trifled with.
Their lives could be ended with just a glance from Charles, like what happened to Mandy not long ago.
Seeing the fatigue in Anna's eyes, Charles was about to speak when Anna said, "Charles, let them go. There's no need for further explanations."
From Tina and the other women who had already explained, Anna had understood the nature of the "rumors" between Charles and them.
Continuing to explain would just be repeating the same words.
There was no need to waste time on this.
Charles carefully observed her expression, then looked towards the door and told the women to leave.
When the lobby was once again left with just Anna and Charles, Charles set the lunch table and asked her, "Anya, you heard what they said. Those past rumors were just baseless stories. In reality, I never even touched their hands, let alone had any physical contact."
