Chapter 38: Provocation

At 8:30 sharp, Anna started her rounds like clockwork.

In the VIP double room, Michael was chilling by the bed, with Thalia snuggled up in his arms. When Anna walked in, Thalia didn't even bother to sit up. Instead, she burrowed deeper into Michael's embrace.

With a sugary, flirty tone, she looked at Anna and said, "Anna, my arms and legs are still killing me. Michael massaged me all night, but it didn't help. Should I get a more thorough check-up?"

On the other bed, Tina let out a dismissive "tsk." If Thalia could hide the smug look in her eyes, she might actually seem like she was genuinely complaining about her pain to Anna.

Thalia was trying to show off Michael in front of Anna, to prove that he really liked her. But to Thalia's surprise, Anna's face stayed totally blank, not reacting to her at all. It was like Thalia and Michael could be making out right in front of her, and she wouldn't even blink.

Both Thalia and Michael noticed this.

Michael was hoping to use Thalia to make Anna jealous and win her back. But Anna was ice-cold, showing zero reaction.

Seeing Anna's indifference, Thalia shot a quick glance at Michael's stony face. "Anna, Michael said last night that we'll have a wedding once I'm better. You have to come."

Anna rolled her eyes, clearly annoyed. Thalia's morning chatter was already grating on her nerves.

Anna was in a foul mood, so her tone was sharp. "A lot of women in the world are married. Do you have to rub it in my face every time you see me?"

Anna didn't even glance at Michael the whole time.

After checking Thalia's condition, she moved straight to Tina. Ten minutes later, Anna left the room and headed back to the 308 office.

Once Anna was gone, Charles, who was lounging on the sofa, looked over at the couple. "Mr. Tudor and this young lady seem pretty tight."

Michael looked up, and Charles added, "If you're so close, why not get a private room? That way, you two can do whatever you want without worrying about others."

Hearing this, Michael pushed Thalia away and sat on the sofa.

"Mr. Percy, you must be joking. I mentioned yesterday that the hospital's short on beds. Having Miss Green and Thalia share a room was a last resort." Then, Michael glanced at Thalia and added, "Also, as her fiancé, it's only natural for me to stay and take care of her. Mr. Percy might not get that kind of sentiment."

Charles smirked and locked eyes with Michael. With a sly grin, he said, "I really don't get it. You sweet-talk one girl while playing lovey-dovey with another. I can't pull that off."

Michael's fingers tightened into a fist. He shot a look at Tina on the other bed and sneered, "Mr. Percy, you're married to Anna but still tangled up with your ex. How's that any better than what I'm doing?"

Charles didn't get mad; instead, he chuckled. "If youwould sell Radiant Life Hospital to me, I wouldn't have to use the excuse of visiting patients to see my wife."

The room went dead silent. Thalia leaned against the headboard, seething with jealousy at Charles's words defending Anna. After a few seconds, she pulled herself together, turned to Charles, and said softly, "Mr. Percy, didn't Anna tell you about my identity?"

Charles looked at her, curious. Thalia, with a delicate expression, bit her lip like she was struggling with something.

But she still spoke slowly. "Mr. Percy, you must've heard that Anna's parents are no longer around. My parents and I are Anna's only family. Logically, since she married you, our families should've had a meal together. But for so many days, Anna hasn't mentioned this, nor has she told us about her marriage to you, which shows..."

She paused, looking hesitant, and glanced at Charles timidly before continuing, "In Anna's heart, she doesn't care about this marriage."

Even Tina, an outsider, wanted to slap her after hearing this!

Charles's face stayed calm, but his eyes turned icy.

"Is that so?" he said coolly, glancing at Thalia like she was trash. "Anna never told me she had a cousin."

Charles continued, "Everyone in Crystal City knows my in-laws only have one daughter, Anna. As for you, you're just a stranger with the same last name. I don't have enough time to nurture my relationship with Anna, let alone waste it on unimportant people."

Tina stifled a laugh and mentally applauded Charles. That comeback was savage!

Thalia had to swallow her pride. After all, her status was so low she didn't even have the right to speak in front of Charles.
