Chapter 71 Worried About Charles' Kidney Failure
After lunch, Anna checked her phone and saw that Aurora had bombarded her with twenty or thirty texts. The first ten were just Aurora gushing about how hot and fit Charles was.
Then, Aurora remembered she had a job to do.
She started sending long texts, begging Anna to keep Charles happy so their newspaper wouldn't get shut down.
Anna felt a bit annoyed reading this.
She kept scrolling through the messages.
At 8:30 in the morning, Aurora sent a grateful emoji.
She said Charles had shown mercy and didn't mess with their small newspaper.
But the biggest gigolo club, Serenity Lounge, got shut down!
Seeing several crying emojis, Anna was already numb.
Scrolling further, there was a short video from Aurora.
It was a clip from yesterday in the Serenity Lounge hallway, where Charles was forcefully kissing Anna, captured by someone and posted online.
These days, people loved drama.
In just half an hour, it became a trending topic on various platforms.
At 2 PM, Anna and Aurora met at a café near Apex Holdings Group.
Seeing Anna's tired look, Aurora's eyes were filled with gossip, along with a hint of pity and gratitude.
Aurora almost knelt to Anna. "Anya, you are my lifesaver!"
Taken aback by the appreciation, Anna was at a loss for words. She took a seat at the booth and gave Aurora a chilly look.
"Speak plainly," Anna commanded.
Aurora gave an embarrassed smile, put down her hand, winked at Anna, walked around the long table, sat next to her, and whispered, "Anya, you really went through a lot for me this time. I'll definitely make it up to you!"
Anna chuckled.
She stirred her coffee with her fingers. "Don't thank me yet."
Aurora asked, "What do you mean?"
Anna explained, "I only saw your messages at noon."
Saying this, Anna raised her eyes and looked at Aurora.
Her eyes signaled.
Aurora instantly understood.
Aurora was shocked!
"You are quite fortunate.." This thought not only flashed through Aurora's mind but also came out as a sigh.
Hearing this, Anna sincerely replied, "I think so, too. It's a miracle I haven't dropped dead yet!"
Thinking about the past month, Anna said with a lifeless tone, "Now I'm worried about two things: One, that I might die young. Two, that Charles might have kidney failure."
Aurora touched her nose.
She was curious and wanted to know more.
Although someone like Charles was way out of her league, she couldn't help but gossip a bit.
And the subject of the gossip was her best friend's husband.
Aurora asked so seriously that Anna was busy dealing with her and didn't notice the figure that had been standing behind her for a while.
Until 9 feet away, a voice came from Charles' phone speaker, laughing hysterically. "Charles, so what if you're the first to get married? Your wife already disdains you!."
Mark, on the phone, was laughing heartily.
Charles, with a gloomy face, directly hung up the phone.
He looked up at Anna's back, and for once, Charles, who still had a bit of conscience, began to think, 'Am I really being too much?'
After a few seconds, Charles stepped forward and walked to Anna's side. "Honey, when are we going home?"
Hearing this voice, Anna was stunned.
Aurora, on the other hand, sprang up from the booth like a spring.
Her movement was so dramatic that it drew the attention of people at several nearby tables.
Ignoring the embarrassment, Aurora stood 3 feet away, her posture resembling that of a child facing a strict teacher, and blurted out a long string of words without thinking, "Mr. Percy, I wish you and Anya a harmonious and happy marriage! I'll be leaving now!"
Charles thought that having Anya's friend around for more days wouldn't be so bad.
And the timid yet troublesome Aurora, before her words even finished, had already bolted!
Aurora ran over 300 feet outside the café, panting and bending over, stopping on the sidewalk, looking back.
She couldn't help but think, 'Has my luck been this bad lately? Why do I keep running into Charles? Maybe I should go to a church and pray. If this continues, my life might actually be in danger. After all, escaping once is good luck. Escaping twice is a coincidence. Escaping three times was a dream.'
