Vampires Infiltration
Kaiden's POV
I was angry to say the least.
I angrily clenched my fists so tightly.
I could feel the anger and the evident frustration that was threatening to burst out of me. I looked at my father and at the pack elders as I waited for them to make their verdicts.
I was willing to leave at once to go confront those bloody vampires.
"What do you want me to do?" I asked again in a voice that was barely even above a growl.
The thought of the vampires, or any enemy for that matter, killing members of my pack made my blood boil.
It made me angry and thirsty for revenge.
No one messes with the Blue Moon pack and gets away with it.
No one!
Father's eyes on me were steady as he spoke.
"I want you to go to the territory where these rumors have originated." The Alpha said.
"It is rumoured that they are located at the dragon's claw territory.
You need to investigate and confirm if these intruders are indeed vampires or something else.
They could be enemies of the pack for all we know." He said as he looked at his elders for support and they nodded their heads in agreement.
"Take Beta Ranon with you," Alpha Arthur added. "You'll need the additional support and his expertise in tracking.
I want just the both of you to do this and I trust that you will be as discreet as possible." He said to me and I nodded my head, my mind was already shifting to the task we had to perform.
"I understand father." I said to him, "We'll leave immediately." I said.
"You must be cautious, Kaiden," one of the pack leaders said. He had on his face worry and concern etched, I smiled at his concern. "We simply cannot afford to lose more pack members.
And we can't act rashly without knowing the full situation." He reasoned and I smiled at him as I nodded my head.
I understood where he was coming from.
"I'll handle it," I assured them calmly even though inside of me, I was already itching for a fight. I bowed my head in respect before turning to leave.
As I made my way back to my chambers to prepare for the mission of seeking the vampires, I stopped short when I was interrupted by the sight of Lillian walking down the hallway.
She looked as if she was deep in thought and oblivious to my presence.
She didn't even seem like she had seen me or was she pretending to not see me? I wondered as I watched her.
I saw her pass me without a word to me and immediately got irritated and riled up by her insolence.
How dared she ignore me?
"Lillian," I called out her name in a sharp tone that was sharper than I had intended.
She stopped on her tracks but didn't turn to face me. I saw the way her shoulders tensed and something gnawed at me. Was she avoiding me on purpose?
Was it because of what I had said to her earlier?
"Yes, Prince Kaiden?" she replied in a voice that was calm but no doubt distant.
I walked up to where she was. I couldn't help it, but I felt the strong urge to ascertain my authority.
She needed to know her place.
"Come to my chambers. Now." I ordered her. I watched as she hesitated for a moment, and I could see the reluctance in her eyes when she finally turned to look at me.
"But I have duties to attend to," she said quietly, she had a grudge to her voice.
"Those can wait," I snapped at her. "This is more important." I demanded.
She was after all my mate and must do as I say no matter the circumstances.
I saw the way her eyes flashed with so many emotions, but she didn't say anything else to counter my order instead she nodded.
"As you wish," she said in a voice that didn't do much to conceal her resentment.
I inwardly smiled in satisfaction as she finally conceded.
I led the way to my chambers, while she followed closely behind me.
Why the heck did she have to get under my skin so much? Why did I feel this constant urge to challenge and test her? I wondered as we walked.
As soon as we reached my chambers, I closed the door behind us, and turned to face her.
"Lillian," I began, "Do you understand why I'm doing this? Why I am treating you this way?" I asked her.
She looked at me with those searching depths, steadily and unflinching, she took her time before she responded to me.
"No, I don't. " She responded looking at me in a resigned expression about her.
"And frankly, I don't think it matters. You've made it clear that you see me as nothing more than a weak werewolf, and that's all there is to it." She said.
Fuck!
Honestly, her words stung, and I felt a pang of guilt.
"It's not that simple," I said as I tried to maintain the harsh voice I was speaking to her with. "I don't trust you, that's just it.
I don't trust you and I do not like you." I said to her.
More like I didn't want to like her. I knew damn well that I was beginning to have pity on her. Something about her felt so pitiful.
"And that gives you the right to treat me like this?" she asked me with furrowed brows and I blinked.
"I don't expect you to understand," I replied, trying to mask my frustration with anger." But you need to know that my priority is the safety and strength of my pack.
I can't afford to trust blindly." I told her and she sighed and looked away, shaking her head.
"You may think you're protecting your pack, but you're also pushing away someone who could be an ally." She told me and she looked at me, I could see the way her eyes had watered but the tears had not dropped yet. "Just because I'm weak doesn't mean I'm useless." She told me.
Shit. Her words hit me harder than I expected, and for a moment, I was at a loss for what to say.
I just stood there speechless. Watching her. She blinked and looked away.
She was right, of course, but admitting that was another matter entirely. I didn't want to admit to her that she was right. I wasn't going to.
"Just do as you're told," I said finally and turned away from her. "And stay out of trouble." I added.
The last part was more because I cared, I wanted her to stay away from trouble and I honestly couldn't make out what I was thinking at the moment.
I didn't get any responses from her, and when I looked back, she was already gone, leaving me alone with my thoughts.
I let out a deep sigh as I ran my fingers through my unruly and curly hair. This mission couldn't come soon enough actually. This was the right timing for it.
It came when I needed it and I knew that I needed something to distract me from the confusing emotions Lillian stirred within me.
I went ahead to prepare for the mission, I quickly gathered my weapons and made sure that everything was in order. Father's beta met me at the pack's stables, and we set off towards the territory where the vampires had been rumored to infiltrate.
We knew the very moment we had approached the area, the dragon's claw territory, the scent of blood and death became too much to ignore and my nostrils flared with anger.
"We need to be careful," Beta Ranon said in a low voice. It could pass for a whisper.
"If these are indeed vampires, they could be lying in wait for us." He noted.
"I know," I replied, my senses were already on high alert and I was trying to get where it was that they were hiding through my instincts. "But we need to find out the truth. Our pack depends on it." I said.
As we moved deeper into the territory, the signs of a struggle became more apparent.
Bodies of our pack members lay scattered on the floor, our slain pack warriors, and the air was thick with the deadly stench of blood and death.
My heart ached for my fallen packmates, and I vowed to avenge their deaths, no matter the cost. Those bastards were going to pay.
We went on just the both of us, Beta Ranon and myself, we continued to follow the trail of destruction, until we finally came across a group of figures that moved quietly in the shadows. I signaled for father's beta to stay back as I approached cautiously, my senses were on their highest instincts.
"Who is there?" I called out, my voice steady despite the adrenaline that was already coarsing through my veins.
The figures turned to look at us and my eyes widened when they did. They had revealed who they were -their pale, bloodthirsty faces, lifeless and bloodshot eyes, with those evil fangs which they revealed when they smiled.
Vampires!
There was indeed no mistake, the rumours were true.
