Unexpected Twist
Kaiden’s POV
The moon was already out in the sky and it gave the evening a cool look.
The pack house was quite calm and collected as I stood by the window of my chambers, I was lost in thought.
The day had been quite exhausting I had to say—both physically and emotionally.
First I had to carry the weight of the ceremony on my shoulders, and then, the recent encounter with Lilian and Henrik kept playing over and over in my mind.
The more I thought about it, the more I got angrier.
Henrik… that bastard. I had sensed his hatred long before now, but seeing him with Lilian had stoked a fire inside me that I didn’t even know I had.
The way she had looked at him, the fear that I had seen in those eyes of hers… something just wasn’t right.
There was more going on between them, and I had every intention to find out what it was.
My thoughts were interrupted by a soft knock at the door. I stiffened a little, I knew immediately who it was.
I was already perceiving her unique scent. Plus, I wasn’t expecting anyone else this late, and only one person knocked like that.
“Come in,” I called.
The door creaked open, and Lilian stepped into the room, her presence both a comfort and a curse.
She hesitated for a moment and her eyes searched mine for something—reassurance, maybe? But I had none to give.
“Kaiden,” she said softly, her voice in a whisper. She moved closer, and her steps were quite calculative, as if unsure of her welcome.
“Lilian,” I responded, my tone came off cooler than I intended. I simply couldn’t help it—seeing her brought back everything, all the anger and confusion, the feelings I’d been trying to push aside.
She stood before me now, so close I could feel the warmth coming off from her body.
She looked up at me with those eyes—those damn eyes that had haunted my dreams, my nightmares. My everything.
I cursed under my breath as I watched her try to form words.
“I… I needed to talk to you,” she began, her voice trembled slightly. “About earlier… with Henrik.” she said.
I clenched my jaw. I fought the urge to reach out and pull her close, to demand answers from her lips and immediately.
But I forced myself to stay still.
“What about it?” I asked, my voice was sharp.
Her gaze dropped to the floor, and I watched as her hands twisted nervously in front of her.
“I didn’t want to be there with him, Kaiden. I didn’t know he would—” she trailed and that piqued my interest the more.
“Then why were you?” I cut her off, unable to keep the bitterness from creeping into my tone. “Why were you with him, Lilian?” I asked her.
She flinched, and a part of me hated myself for hurting her like that. But I needed answers. I needed to know what was happening.
“I… I don’t know,” she whispered and her voice broke. “He… he has a hold on me, Kaiden. I don’t know how to explain it.
It’s like I’m caught in this web, and I can’t seem to break free.” she said.
I stared at her, my heart pounded rapidly in my chest. I could see the pain in her eyes, the confusion, and then something else—something that made my own heart ache.
“Lilian…” I began, my voice was softer now, but she cut me off.
“I know what you must think of me,” she said, her voice trembled. “I know you must think I’m weak, that I’m playing some twisted game.
But I’m not, Kaiden. I’m not.” she said and her eyes met mine.
“I never said that,” I replied, I reached out to take her hand, unable to stop myself any longer.
The moment our skin touched, a spark shot through me, and I knew she felt it too.
Her breath hitched, and she looked up at me, her eyes wide.
“Kaiden…” she whispered my name and I swear that sound shot straight down to my dick.
I pulled her closer, my hand moved to cup her cheek.
"I don’t think you’re weak, Lilian,” I whispered, my voice rough with emotion.
Well, maybe I did. “I think you’re stronger than you know. But you need to trust me.
You need to tell me the truth.” I told her.
Tears welled in her eyes, and she nodded.
“I’m trying, Kaiden. I’m trying so hard…” she trailed off.
My thumb brushed away a tear that had slipped down her cheek, and I found myself leaning closer, my self restraint crumbled with each passing moment and I simply couldn't hold it in any longer.
“Lilian, I…” I said as my lips were just a few inches to hers.
Before I could finish, she surged forward, and pressed her lips to mine in a kiss that was both desperate and full of longing.
I froze for a moment, shocked by the intensity of it, by how much I had wanted this— and how much I had wanted her.
But then I gave in, wrapped my arms around her and pulled her even closer, I kissed her back and hard, it was with all the passion I had kept buried for so long.
Her hands tangled in my hair, and I could feel her body trembling against mine, as if she was afraid to let go.
“Kaiden…” she murmured against my lips, her voice a mixture of both relief and desperation.
I groaned into her lips as my fingers roamed her body, the sound escaped me before I could even stop it, and I deepened the kiss, pouring everything I felt into it.
All the confusion, the anger, the desire—it all melded together in that moment, and I knew there was no turning back.
We stumbled back toward the bed, our lips never parting, our hands roaming over each other’s bodies. I could feel her warmth, her softness, and it was driving me insane. Who knew I would want her this damned much?
My control was slipping, and I didn’t care.
But just as quickly as it had begun, reality came crashing back in and instinctively, I pulled away from her, panting, I could feel my heart racing.
“Lilian… we can’t…” I said wiping my lips as I instantly felt the regret that came over me the moment she parted lips with mine.
She looked up at me, her eyes were wide and full of hurt.
“Why not?” she asked shakily. I knew it was because of the kiss that she was unstable.
And fuck, the way she stared at me. I was beginning to grow hard.
“Because,” I said, my voice was strained as I tried my utmost hardest to regain some semblance of control. “Because this… it’s not right. Not like this.” I said.
Her expression crumbled, and she took a step back, she wrapped her arms around herself as if to shield her from the cold.
“I’m sorry,” she whispered, her voice barely audible. “I didn’t mean to—” she was saying but she was getting it wrong.
“No,” I interrupted, reaching out to her again. “Don’t apologize. It’s not your fault.
It’s just… we need to take this slow, Lilian. We need to figure things out first.” I said to her.
She nodded her head, but I could see the tears in her eyes, and it broke my heart.
“I understand,” she said, her voice thick as if she was trying to conceal her emotion.
“I’m sorry, Kaiden. I shouldn’t have come here.” she said.
Shit. She was getting it all wrong now.
