My mechanizations

Henrik’s POV

Somewhere in the Blood Moon pack.

~~~~~~~~~~
The night was quiet, way too quiet for my liking. The kind of quiet that felt more like the calm before a storm.
I could feel it, the tension hanging thick in the air as I stood at the edge of the forest bordering my territory.
The Blood Moon Pack’s lands were vast and unforgiving, much like its Alpha— well who else would you think of if it wasn't me.
My eyes swept over the darkened woods as I stood there lost in thoughts.
The last time I’d seen Lilian and that bastard Kaiden had been during his coronation as Alpha.
The image of her looking at me with suspicion, with something that bordered on evident fear, had been sketched into my memory ever since.
She was beginning to suspect something. I could feel it in the way she hesitated when I spoke, the way her eyes searched mine as if she sought for the truth, in the way she questioned me that night.
I balled my fists into clenched fists. And that was something I could not allow. She wasn't supposed to know. It wasn’t in her place to know.
It had been me, after all. I had orchestrated the ambush that led to the deaths of Kaiden’s parents. I had done that. As my own little way of seeking revenge. Nothing personal.
Oh well, who was I kidding anyway?
They had been a necessary sacrifice to ensure my control and to pave the way for my much greater plans.
Kaiden might have ascended to Alpha, but the reality of his parents’ death, coupled with the carefully planted seeds of doubt, would soon weaken him.
I had hoped that Lilian, with her connection to me, would help in my cause. But now… now, she was becoming a problem. She was almost becoming useless.
The thought of her, of the way she was drawn to Kaiden, ignited a slow-burning volcano of anger inside me.
She was supposed to be mine, my puppet, to play her part in my game. But instead, she was slipping through my fingers, entangling herself with Kaiden.
She had the mind to fall in love, I could see it. I couldn’t let that happen.
I turned sharply and made my way back to the pack house. My footsteps echoed in the stone corridors as I walked.
My mind was already churning with possibilities, with ways to ensure Lilian stayed where she belonged and remained useful to me. I needed her to remain ignorant, to not see the full picture.
And if she did… Well, I would have to deal with her accordingly. She of all people knew what that meant.
As I reached my chambers, I paused at the door. There was one more piece to this puzzle that needed to be moved. I needed to ensure that my plans would go uninterrupted.
With a swift motion, I opened the door and stepped inside the room. The room was quiet, just the way I preferred it.
I walked over to the large wooden mahogany desk that dominated the room and poured myself a glass of whiskey.
The liquid burned my chest and down below as it slid down my throat, but it was a welcome burn—it made me think about being mean, and calous and unforgiving and being..... Henrik, alpha of the Blood Moon pack, cold blooded and cold hearted, always seeking to shed the blood of my enemies. Hehehe.
“Send for Yuria,” I commanded into the silence in a cold voice.
Moments later and there was a soft knock at the door. I didn’t bother to answer, I just simply continued staring into the fire that crackled in the hearth.
The door creaked open, and she stepped inside, I didn't see her but her scent already told me that she was the one.
“Alpha Henrik,” she greeted me, her voice was smooth and deceptively innocent. I smiled inwardly. Scratch that, I smirked.
I turned to face her and allowed a slow, predatory smile to creep across my lips.
Yuria.
Yep, she was who you think she was. The very same. She was a masterpiece of deception, my masterpiece, a perfect tool in my arsenal.
No one would ever even suspect her, especially not Lilian. Yuria had been placed in the Blue Moon Pack to act as Lilian’s friend, her confidante, you could say her best friend and so far, it's been working. But in truth, she answered to me, and only me.
“Yuria,” I said, as I put on a fake smile. “You’ve done well so far.” I told her.
She inclined her head slightly and smiled acknowledging my praise.
“Thank you, Alpha. I live to serve the pack.” she said with her head low.
Her words were perfectly rehearsed, exactly what anyone would expect from a loyal pack member. But I knew better.
There was a fire in her eyes, a spark of ambition that mirrored my own.
“Tell me,” I continued, swirling the whiskey in my glass. “How is our dear Lilian?” I enquired.
Yuria’s lips curled into a small smile, one that didn’t even in the slightest bit, reach her eyes.
“She trusts me completely, Alpha. I’ve been careful not to raise any suspicions.” she said to me.
“Good,” I replied, my eyes piercing as I regarded her. “Lilian is beginning to suspect things… things that she should not be privy to. It is your job to ensure that she remains in the dark.
I need her to stay close to Kaiden, to continue to play her role. But if she starts to think about uncovering the truth…” I trailed.
I purposely let the words hang in the air, it was a silent threat that Yuria understood perfectly.
“I’ll make sure she doesn’t, Alpha,” Yuria assured me, her voice was firm. “Lilian won’t know a thing unless you want her to.” she said.
I nodded my head in satisfaction at her response.
“See that you do. And remember, Yuria, your position in the Blue Moon Pack is delicate.
Any mistake, any hint of betrayal, and you’ll find yourself on the wrong side of a very angry Alpha.” I warned her, hoping that would do the magic.
Yuria didn’t flinch at the warning, but I could see the brief flash of fear in her eyes.
Good.
She needed to fear me, needed to understand that her life depended on her success.
“Understood, Alpha,” she replied, her voice steady once more.
I took another sip of whiskey and let the silence stretch between us. My mind was already spinning with new strategies, new ways to ensure that Lilian stayed exactly where I wanted her. She was a pawn in this game. My game! And today was a valuable piece that I couldn’t afford to lose.
“You’re dismissed, Yuria,” I said finally, waving her away.
She bowed her head respectfully and turned to leave. But just as she reached the door, I called out to her one last time.
“And Yuria?”
“Yes, Alpha?”
“Keep an eye on Kaiden as well. That snarky bastard is more dangerous than he looks or cares to admit." I instructed.
“Of course, Alpha,” she responded before slipping out of the room, the door closed softly behind her.
